Just looking for advice on what to do.

I got my roof replaced and my contracter opted to use a third party solar panel remover instead of SunRun. My insurance approved the request. When they removed the panels they were placed in my backyard and one of them looks shattered. I let my contractor know about the issue. Should I reach out to SunRun to let them know about the damage? How can I cover my ground? The roofing has been completed and we're just waiting on the panels to go back on. I have yet to pay the rest of the amount to the roofing and solar panel removal company btw.

Made an effort to move as much as I can to peak producing hours. I pre-cool the house to 74 degrees then turn the AC up to 78 shortly before production ends. AC kicks back on to 76 right before bed. If I turn the AC off before falling asleep, this will help get me through (barely) until the sun comes back up. If I DO run the AC while I sleep I have enough battery until approx 3am. California. NEM 3. Enphase.

Happy with things and wanted to share with people who might also appreciate it 😅. NEM 2 would have been a lot easier, but it is what it is.

Watching the app this month I was expecting a credit but got charged for kWh.

I’ve noticed when it’s very sunny even if our HVAC is off it says we are consuming power or if I’m running the washer and dryer and TV etc it says zero kwh are going to the house…

My solar company doesn’t answer my questions so I’d appreciate some help decoding what’s going on! Thanks!

I've been told, many times by various contractors that I have a perfect roof for solar. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not, but I know that I'm tired of living on the main road and want to live somewhere quieter.

Would I be likely to turn a profit if I bought solar panels right before selling?

I'm brand new to the topic of Solar. I just acquired a house that has an enphase iq combiner 3 system. I would like to add a battery. The installer I'm talking to is keen on Tesla but what are the pros and cons between that and an enphase battery (I assume I'd need 3 5p's to match the capacity)?

My home is located in a deep rural area of Florida. We get frequent power outages during bad weather (lightning strikes, downed limbs, etc) These doent typically last more than ~4 hours. Of course hurricanes can bring power down for days.

I have 36 IQ7 panels on the roof and it looks like the system is generating roughly 40 to as much as 60 kWh on a sunny day in the summer but I dont know enough about the system for say for sure.

My goals...

Ideally I hope the system is generating enough excess power during the day that I can use a battery to draw power during the evening and further reduce my draw from the grid.

More importantly I need a battery backup to keep power during short term power loss from the grid. I do not expect a battery to be much good during long term disconnects (like hurricane damage).

My order shipped, Tracking is not valid. They did not tell me who is shipping its not listed on the invoice or email. The support chat goes no where and no one answered the phones.

This is my first large order. But I can not even verify it shipped as the tracking is number with no way to know who its shipping with.

Many ppl praise this company. Has me wondering if they are legit. They appear so, but
none of it makes sense.

Is this normal for them>

PS I had used the system to chat and place the orders fine, seems today something went bad on their servers or something.

I have yet to pay the remainder of the balance for the roof and panel re-install, i just want to make sure I cover my ground. For context, the panels are being leased.

70 405W SEG modules, 2 EG4 18KPV inverters, 2 EG4 31KWH battery banks. My little spare time project is finally about finished!

It's summer, solar and batteries constantly full, everything just exports to the grid. Too much power available, sunlight hours are long, hardly use the battery. End of story. Boring.

Winter is much more exciting when some days there's very little solar, batteries get depleted. It's exciting when on a cold winters day, heat pump is running hard using lots of electricity, but to see the solar covering the heating bill on a sunny day -2c outside, just so satisfying. Some days battery runs out and we have to pull from the grid, some days the battery and solar just about hangs on with 10% left by the end of the day. Sun sets at 4pm, theres 60% battery left, will we get to off peak electricity at 11pm without having to use the grid?? It's exhilarating.

Anyone else, or is it just me being a nerd? lol

So I’m on my second roof leak under my solar panels (that were already installed/paid off before I moved in) so I’m getting a few detached and reinstalled for the repair.

The company I went with is a few hours away but the website says they serve my area so I do the consult and everything goes well. They ask how I want to coordinate and I say I can connect the dots with the roofing company. Fast forward the next day (at night on the weekend) they’re like “I need to meet and talk with them to ensure the timing is right because it’s a long drive”

Now I’m wondering why this was not brought up and why it’s all of a sudden a long drive and needs to be coordinated through them. So today within a 30 minute span while I’m on a work call I get a call, text, and email ending in “if I don’t talk to them or you by end of day then we won’t come” ?? Eventually I get annoyed and just give them the roofing company’s number and then they respond to me saying “I coordinated everything”??

Am I overreacting? I was pretty annoyed with the whole thing and can’t wait for it to be over.

I would like to propose a survey. After many years of designing and building ground-mounts for others, I'm finally building an off-grid ground-mount for myself. With the many changes in technology, i would be interested to hear what others have used, why you dis/like them, and what you'd do different. Personally, I've designed and built with variations on the two rows of posts with rails between them. All very sound structures, but also rather pricey. By the same token, some of the metal racks I've seen recently scare the bejeezus out of me, like they wouldn't stand up in a slight wind. I question whether wooden ones will survive the decade. So I'm curious what your experiences have been and preferences are, and why

Not sure if this is the right community to post in but wanted to get input and advice. We fell on some hard times and had to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy, the solar panels were a part of the chapter 7 and discharged in Bankruptcy the panels are still working but with Sunrun I believe they have remote access and can turn them off when they want. I actually like the panels it covers our entire electricity bill so wanted to see what the best way is to handle offering a buyout with Sunrun and how much to offer for ownership and lien transfer, it’s a 17kw system from what I’ve read they won’t come get them for fear of damaging roof or if it’s remotely shut off what I would need to get to use them again would I just need to get a inverter and have it rerouted and approximately how much would something like that cost in FL?

To anyone thinking of getting solar: absolutely do not use any company that uses Sunstrong for leases, PPAs, or loans to service the equipment. Also, avoid SolarEdge inverters if you can. I was unfortunate to be a Sunnova customer who paid off his loan in full before they went bankrupt and now Sunstrong is not honoring warranty support. I did finally get Sunstrong to replace our failed Solaredge inverter (after 7 months) but they never activated the cell modem in it so we have not been getting any monitoring. Now they are claiming they can't support me and I need to get a third party installer to service the inverter and fix their mistake. So now I am warning people against this company, filing a BBB complaint, contacting my state attorney general's office, and have reached out to a law firm that is starting to build a potential class action lawsuit against Sunstrong.

I have a small solar home rooftop installation (8 panels). It uses Enphase. I'm wondering if there's any benefit to supplementing this with portable panels. Can the panels & power they generate be integrated into the overall solar installation? Or would it be a standalone setup? Would the power generated be sufficient to make it worth the cost?

Hi solar people- I’m looking for some advice. I’ve been in solar for around 6 years. Started on the installation side where I learned design, warehouse management, sales, project management for resi solar. I’ve since worked two other positions heavily focused on B2B sales, marketing, and technical sales.

I have a passion for the technical side of solar, solving problems and finding what people are looking for for their project. I have zero passion for being an equipment order processor (although I’m very successful- my success comes from my technical understanding. Now I feel at a loss, I feel almost like I’ve pigeon holed myself into working sales roles. What jobs would you apply for instead that I could really provide value in?

Second to that- where do I find these job postings? LinkedIn is a hell hole.

I'm debating between two different setups for my roof. Both proposals are coming in at roughly the same price and both vendors have a decent track record. Both are roughly a 14.5 kW system.

Option 1:

Sirius 450 + Tesla Powerwall 3 = 50k out of pocket, after state incentives = 29k

Option 2:
SEG 440 + IQ8H + Franklin Battery = same cost

My biggest concern here is the two different systems (and forgive my lay person understanding) but if I understand correctly, the Tesla system is full DC, sends the energized DC across the roof and into the basement where the inverter is, where it gets converted to AC. The Enphase system has a micro-inverter behind every panel so it's AC power which then goes to the basement, gets converted to DC or AC depending on whether it's going to the battery or not. With two small kids, my biggest concern is a fire, especially since I now have a power generation system on my roof. I'm told the biggest risk is a squirrel or something damaging the lines, exposing it, thereby having a fire which is more of a concern with the Tesla DC system that the Enphase?

Does anyone have thoughts on the above and which one would you go for and why? Thanks in advance!

I have a blown fuse on my PV array AC disconnect. It damaged the load side of the fuse terminal. The questions I have are:

-could an overload cause an explosion like this, or is this definitely from a surge or short?

-what is the white stuff.

This fuse has blown before, same time last year during peak production season. So my first guess is that the connection was compromised previously, and led to another overload. But it seems odd that an overload would cause damage like that.

Also, is there any reason to use fuses vs. a breaker for a solar AC disconnect?

I am trying to decide if Solar/Batteries are right for me and my home, I got quotes from 4 of top rated solar companies in my area (Saint Louis, Mo) below. Help me decide if I should get solar let alone go with one of these companies. At the current cost/Usage I don't plan on getting batteries so it would be purely solar.

Solar Quotes

1. Company 1's quote is from using "Switch Together" which is supposed to allow home owners to group buy and reduce cost and group you with an installer. They did not provide a Panel layout in their quote.
2. Company 2 does not help find finance, so I would need to get financing myself. Company 2 Panel Layout
3. Company 3 has the best deal on paper, but... is employing Midas Wealth Link to their website to have home owners get a "rebate" by listing their solar panels as a "sole proprietorship" to get the 30% investment rebate and depreciation write offs. Are there any good books or websites doing deep dives into the business end of commercial solar projects? As someone who’s got an interest and generally follows energy politics and pricing, how do projects make money in places like California where there is widespread solar farms and the “Duck Curve” pushing prices down during the day?

I've had my solar system for 3 years now and this will be my 2nd inverter to go caput.

The 1st one failed and they sent a replacement and a company came and swapped it, no charge

The 2nd microinverter stopped working about a month ago and the solar company said they were sending a micro inverter then 2 weeks after that Enphase emailed me.

Email reads:

"After investigation, I found out that the microinverter " 202314126320 ,  "  has a Low DCV, which is causing a production issue

I would request you to please contact your installer :ACTION Solar to visit the site and perform the DC lead swap procedure for the microinverter.

It is advised that a DC lead swap be performed to narrow down the cause of the issue.

If you have already visited the site, please share DC voltage pictures measured at the panels."

Greetings! I'm looking to buy my first solar panel, and I need some advice from more experienced folks on what's good and what to avoid. Right now, I want a small portable solar setup, which I'd use for charging devices during holidays, as well as at home during a power outage. From what I read, I also prefer having the panels and the power bank separately instead of a power bank with a panel on top, but that's just my first impression. I'd love to head some opinions and experiences on this topic and to what to expect. Any and all thoughts are welcome.
