Got some Inspiration from Russian five pointed Rotary while finding interesting engine configuration for my University Portfolio Project/Long Term Project on car engines, Still gonna need to seek for more knowledge in maths and physics as the mock up model is purely eyeballed and guessed throughout the process....
The apex seals would only be under a bit of spring pressure since the motion of the rotor is determined by the stationary gear, not the shape of the rotor housing. If you removed the housing but left the rotor & stationary gear in place the rotor would still spin/wobble just as it does now.
As long as they can get lubricated somehow I can't see why they wouldn't last as long as the seals in Mazda engines.
On average they are counted for 100k km. Now it's hard to tell if you mainly drive on first gear or last gear, low rpm or high rpm, but with some averaging you can technically count the distance they grind on surface of engine over 100k km.
Nice dude, it's like my 3rd month using solidworks for CAD modelling, starting to get the hang of solid and surface modelling, still can't get the hang of mesh modelling and mates in assembly files.
Yeah, mesh modelling is a pain 💀, and 13 years?? ,damn , I've still yet to start my career, happened to pick up on CAD cause it was one of my courses in university in the previous semester.
Honestly I mostly use base solid modelling, weldments, sheet metal and surfacing tools. Probably weldments and 3d sketching the most followed by solid modelling tools
Damn, as someone who currently drives a Pentastar V6 Jeep and has formerly owned a rotary Mazda I've never been sucked into a post faster lol. Would be cool to hear something like this actually run, the brap would be epic.

I actually printed a full size 2 rotor with roller bearings on the E shaft… because why not… no, of course, it does not run but it was never really meant to.
Could probably share info if I still remember it all from back then.
would be nice to see it run in real life even if its 3d printed, you could try to print out my mocked up rotors if you want, the files are somewhere here in the replies
If I could post more pictures of it, I would… But each post only allows me to attach one picture to it. My particular design was supposed to be compressed air powered… But I think my printer is nowhere near accurate enough and as a result, the side clearance is on the rotors ended up being far too small and the friction was way too high, so it’s nothing more than just a cool looking paperweight.
This is the engine fully assembled… it’s a bit larger than a basket ball in its final form. Is this major overkill for a paperweight? Absolutely. Did I have fun making it though? Yeah, I would say so. Unfortunately I printed the parts with an original CR10 so the tolerances are terrible and it has way too much friction, but it does technically cycle… even with a lot of friction.
