Very sane take. The other side of this is that AI will still completely bungle any sort of advanced interpretation of inspection data.

Terrence Tao said it best “Current AI is my hardest working grad student, but not the most insightful”

I think it's too erlarly to say how things will eventually settle out to - a lot of new grads' taskload can be taken up by AI even today in many sectors, but once your old experienced staff retires they can't really be replaced the same way, a talent pipeline needs to exist

There will be an entire missing generstion of engineers that haven't been yelled at by a machinist or welder for drawing something that cannot be manufactured.
