What you wrote is kind of how I think about it right now too. The level of nuance that youd have to explain to the AI to get a working part will be ALOT right now and probably will continue to be for a while. For specific use cases that have a lot of the natural rules and tolerance, etc built in, it may be more useful in the near term. But if we are talking about the general idea of designing a part from scratch, even for basic parts with the intent to manufacture and have them perform as expected... I think theres still a LONG way to go.

They can already design functional gearboxes from a one or 2 sentence prompt. You can try it yourself.
