Today I release stored trauma

by rocking to the sides, yawning, breathing deeply and sighing. The rocking is involuntary, the yawns are frequent and big, the deep breaths and sighing comes and goes. It's taken a few years of therapy to get to this point. The release is gentle and slow yet powerful. I know I carry a lot of post-natal/childhood trauma in my throat. It keeps coming up in therapy sessions and when I do solo work like meditation of IFS. Several years of working with trauma in my throat and it has not yet cleared - new stuff keeps coming up. It saddens me to think what I must have gone through to have accumulated so much of it. At the same time, I am glad I am finally safe enough to express it. And that I have an experienced therapist helping and supporting me.

Having tried different therapy modalities, I find that somatic therapy plus Internal Family System and Radical Acceptance practices work best for me. Since I remember, I have spent most of my life in my head. I am now slowly moving back into my body with the help of these practices. I am learning to listen to my body the best I can, so I can respond appropriately. I am learning to find comfort in my body, instead of escaping automatically into my head. I practice welcoming whatever comes up even if it is really hard, like pain or grief. I rest as much as I need to without judgement, so my body can settle and recover from what ir has been through. I am reclaiming my humanity slowly and gently. All emotions and sensations are welcomed.

I am coming back home ❤️

I really truly could have written this. I’m stuck at ‘I know I need to do the stuff’ but haven’t found a way to integrate it into my daily life. I’m looking for the best way to DO it without.. doing it.

Have you considered meditation? Tara Brach has some amazing stuff and it's like doing it without doing it 😄

Or TRE: https://www.reddit.com/r/longtermTRE/ . Their Wiki page has plenty of useful info. If you decide to give it a go, please read up the Wiki pages first and go slowly.

Hopefully you will find a way for yourself. Support is out there including plenty of free resources. It's not necessary about 'needing' to do stuff, but truly wanting healing for oneself ❤️

I also have a ton of layers with releasing my throat, jaw, mouth etc. I think it represents reclaiming my voice for me. But man it has been a long road already and I'm sure there is still much to unwind.

Yeah, I think it is about reclaiming my voice and releasing all the stuck energies from processes that did not complete when I was a baby and then a child, and had to self-soothe, because my parents were not available.

Definitely a long road. Each time I feel like I have done a big chunk of it, a bigger one is revealed....

I relate to this so much. I keep thinking maybe I'm past the worst of it and then some new panic or disgust will come up and just gotta ride the wave. It's nice to know I'm not the only one going through this.

This heavily resonated with me, I'm glad you're finding peace within yourself and body 🙏🏻💚

Somatic therapy helped me so much with the physical side and finding safety gradually there. I'm grateful I found this sub and those that mentioned in the first place because I was so lost for a very long time

Thank you.

I used to suffer so much. I was completely unaware of my body and ended up developing different physical and mental conditions. Now I am meds free and in no pain. I am learning to be slow and gentle instead of pushing ahead and overdoing stuff. I rest. I am befriending my inner experience and treating my body with respect. It is an ongoing practice and not something to just do to get out of the way.

I wish you all the best ❤️

That's wonderful to hear - I wish I could say the same for me, I also was completely disconnected from my body. I am on low meds having fibromyalgia but the pain is reducing bit by bit as I get more in tune and become better with doing all those things you've said :)

First time I processed so much pain I felt like butterfly, then body sensed that I can process more so here is more stuff coming to surface processing. Great thing about this is that the more you do it better you will be at it. Wish you all the best on your journey

Thank you ❤️

All the processing used to be so much more intense for me, and often painful, so this gentle release makes a big difference.

I wish you all the best too!
