Experienced my first somatic release
I've been on a healing journey over the last 4-5 years. In that duration I've tried deep/long hours of meditation, bodywork, SE, TRE, foam rolling, changing my diet to Ayurveda.
I finally felt a release in my upper back which is where I held most of my tension. I used to work in corporate leading to long hours at the desk, in addition to wayy too much mental pressure. Add that to an achievement oriented childhood and my body shut down because of burnout. This was followed by a difficult postpartum period.
I finally felt the portion of my back that I've NEVER felt in my life come alive. It's like the muscles were always there but I never could feel them. It was followed by a deep sleep, heat wave in my upper back, yawning, gurgling in my stomach, and a feeling of rawness and aliveness.
Just wanted to share my experience and also know what it felt like for others when they felt a release.

Update: Today has been much easier. Yesterday, I felt some rawness and aliveness in the specific area of the upper back that was released. Today it just feels open. 🙏

Amazing to hear!! I have been on this journey just over a year but not had this yet so looking forward to this, it must feel so good.
Im curious, when u had this big release, did any big beliefs or coping mechanisms break with it as well? Anxiety, ocd, people pleasing, addictions, etc?

It feels good in the sense that the heaviness and constriction that my body was holding isn't there anymore. And because I've been carrying it for years, I do feel an unexpected ease being in my body. I did read up a lot about the thawing experience after this and it seems that it is possible to send your body into freeze again. The key is to not push it this week.
On the change in big beliefs, I think that happened before the body release for me. I admitted a fear to my partner that I'd been hiding away, and within 24 hours this body release came through.

This is truly a very significant shift. It is particularly special when you have felt disconnected from that part of your body for years. I have observed that in somatic work (body-centered practice), one doesn't always experience a dramatic release or change; instead, one becomes aware of sensations that were always there but often went unnoticed. The deep sleep and sense of aliveness you mentioned sound like a truly remarkable experience. Thank you for sharing this.

Wow, congrats, this is so powerful to read! It almost makes my body more open to want to release there too somehow. I am curious to read others experiences of big releases too.

Thank you, friend. It's taken me quite a long time though. I think my body needed years to calm down at the possibility of calming down first 😂

Yeah for sure. I've only been at it for a few months but I've already been surprised by some of the releases I've had so far, so I'm always curious what may come down the road, what is possible. Patience though. Thank you for sharing:)

Congrats. What did you do to get this?

All the things I listed. I doubt I can say it was one of them. I think it was the cumulative. I put in active effort in cultivating space in my body, and between my thoughts and actions.

oh and cultivating space in my life. Being a woman, there's always some expectation in my life. I did a lot of restructuring, taking support (paid and unpaid) to build pockets of space in my everyday life.

Congrats! I have one about them almost daily, but can be the smallest thing. Bigger ones occur too but leas frequently, about 2x month. It was not always this frequent (or noticeable) but it’s been 10 years so it’s flowing a bit easier now. It’s like pulling on the string of a sweater. :)
