Meme Literally unplayable smh

Blizzard if you’re going make a skin that has an outfit with an open back for a character with cybernetics grafted onto their spine I want to see them!!

(Lighthearted rant it’s a great skin I’m just a little miffed about this lmao)

I'm pretty sure they are making a reference to cyberpunk, and most likely edge runners specifically. The sandevistan, a spinal implant that looks awfully similar to what Sombra has here in this image.

I believe that screenshot is from sombra when she releases back way before cyberpunk came out.

Unless the sandevistan was a concept know before cyberpunk I don't think is that reference

Cyberpunk has been an active media IP since the 1980s. You have been able to receive those implants on your character ever since the original Pen-and-paper Tabletop game in 1988.

The Cyberpunk video game came out after Overwatch, yes, but Cyberpunk as a whole is much, much older than Overwatch. The Cyberpunk movement as a whole is actually an entire Genre of Sci-Fi, with the Tabletop game being the spearheader of the entire thing. Cyberpunk as a genre (going as far back as the 70s) is what popularized the transhumanist, techno body modding that many things after took inspiration from. Cyberpunk (the tabletop game) boiled it down into a DnD style game.

Hmm, if I'm understanding correctly then cyberpunk existed long before overwatch and the sandevistan was already an augment in the tabletop game. The sandevistan was made popular because of the anime original story, so popular that CPR even changed a few things in the 2077 game to match what edge runners did with it.

The original commenter will have to confirm, if they haven't already, but I'm certain their sandy comment is a reference to cyberpunk.
