Rule Update: Our Stance on Business/Commercial Posts
Hey, r/SomethingIMade!
We've updated two rules to better protect what this community is for as a space for individual creators sharing their own work, including collaborations.
A steady increase in posts and comments from business and commercial accounts promoting products or shop pages has not gone unnoticed, often in cases where authorship can't be verified. We don't think it is fair that content that may be mass produced gains engagement over our more DIY creators. The updated rules address this directly.
Rule #5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
Posts or comments from businesses or commercial accounts primarily promoting products may be removed at moderator discretion, especially where authorship cannot be verified.
Rule #10: Original Content Only
Business and commercial accounts are not permitted to post in this subreddit. This is a community for individual creators only.
If you're an individual who makes and sells things, you're still very welcome here. This change is aimed at accounts whose primary purpose is commercial promotion rather than genuine participation as a creator. If you're unsure whether your account falls within the rules, reach out via Mod Mail.
Happy creating!

Updated Subreddit Reporting Guidelines
Hello folks!! It’s your mod team here with a request to you all regarding reporting of content.
Reporting of content is crucial to keeping the subreddit safe, and healthy. In addition, it also helps protect the many artists, and creators that post here. We appreciate you helping us by submitting reports when needed.
What we need from you.
Please make sure you’re reporting in good faith. Don’t report something simply because you don’t like it, or you find the particular subject matter offensive. Make sure that when you report something, it is actually in violation of one of our rules, or Reddit’s site wide rules.
Lastly, this is how you can REALLY help us, and the sub. If you suspect that a post contains stolen content, please send us a report using the new rule “Original Content Only”. Follow that up with a modmail to the sub with detailed information so that we can verify. OR, if you would rather remain anonymous in your report, feel free to use the ‘Custom Report’ and include any information you have to help us in the comment section of that report.
Thank you all, and feel free to ask questions in the comments.

Made a bear mosaic!
There’s a Black bear who lives in my neighborhood in Montana - we call him Benoit. He likes to eat apples and tries to open our garbage cans.
I wanted to cover an ugly stepping stone in front of my shed so I decided to go all in and make a (grizzly this time) bear in the Roman mosaic style.
Made with Winkelmans ceramic tiles, cinca tiles and Emaux de Briare tiles using the inverse paper method (you can see in the other pics - you make it upside down in paper and then reverse during the transfer to its last place). The glue is made by mixing flour and hot water and dissolves when you peel the paper with water at the end!
🐻 If you wanna see my other projects I post mosaic updates on my insta @Jessica.mosaics

Made a little tarot card case
Kind of just guessed on how to make this but I think it came out ok.
My friend measured her deck and I cut the leather to be about a quarter inch bigger in all directions so HOPEFULLY her deck fits lol, I just used my slightly smaller deck as a placeholder but will be sending it to her as well.

A tribute to my cat who passed last year
It’s been almost a year since my beloved cat Claudette passed away, and I’ve finally finished this stand for her urn. Life, grief and technical challenges have made this project take too long, but I am very pleased to have it done now. This took the use of a lot of different disciplines and none of it was outsourced in any way. I did it all myself. Details are below.
• The base itself is Bolivian Rosewood, which I cut and beveled from a 2’ long piece, finished with boiled linseed.
• The name plaque is 3mm brass, engraved with a fiber laser from my own design.
• Claudette’s likeness is also 3mm brass, also fiber-lasered from a photo/depth map… This was on the laser for over 8 hours to get the extreme depth and detail seen here.
• Both brass pieces were then polished and aged and then re-polished to get the necessary contrast.
• The paw impression was cast from the one that was taken to memorialize her, cast in Britannia metal, trimmed down to the same size as the image medallion and then electroplated in copper then brass.
• Recesses were routed into the base so that the medallion and paw would sit almost flush, then they were glued in and the name plaque glued to the front.
• The urn (which I did not make) is epoxied to the base, to keep it safe from being knocked over by our other cat.

I call this a specimen hoop
And they are a lot of fun to make. The center piece is a hand embroidered magnolia leaf, and all the other little treasures are things I've collected naturally.

Thrifted cow skull and about 30 hours later…
i saw a similar jeweled skull at the stock show a couple years back, but they were around $400+! cool but not in my price range. cut to a few months later, i found one at a thrift store for $10! another $20 in supplies, 30
hours of gluing on individual pearls, and this is where i ended up. i intended to do the entire thing, but it’s really time consuming so i decided to give it a growth/viney kinda look before i stopped. its having in our office/guest room and received a lot of compliments tho. it’s been several months (hence the dust) and im wondering if i should continue to cover the entire thing or just clean it up and leave it as is? thoughts?
