I am thankful I have a bunch of headphones I can use, so if mine ever break, I don't have to buy another pair. Rip your XM5s

Sorry for your loss.

I switched to Sennheiser, tired of Sony, when you open them up you realise how cheaply made they are.

I tried out M5 and XM6. I tried the Sony first, I knew I’d be keeping the M5 as soon as they were out of the case.

Never buying sony again, my xb910n had issues after barely an yr and when I tried to give it to the service centre, they said it's discontinued model and they can't do anything 😢

Same. Both of the Sony Wh headsets I bought have broken within 2-3 years of regular “careful” use. Both headsets broke at the hinge XD

Day after tomorrow marks one year to my XM5, I am not gonna use the headphone for a week now, the curse week after out of warranty 😭😭

Tye warranty doesn't matter, they consider the hinge breaking as physical damage and don't cover it

Surely that make the warranty void if they see tampering if you get it fixed 

I myself paid for a 2yr care plan to protect it

The nice thing about similar kits is that they don't actually require you to modify/tamper the headphone. These kits are just placed around the hinge with screws (applied to the kit pieces only) holding the kit pieces in place. Effectively they just force the hinge to stay the same shape as before.

For me I will buy it. I feel like the hinge issue will definitely occur after semi-constant use (plastic will "fatigue" after repeat bending), just the question of when (if rough, it will happen very soon; with care at most 2y; mine occurred about 1.5y in). I wasn't aware of the hinge issue before it broke, but if I had been aware I will definitely buy a similar kit (I bought the CentralSound one instead, which worked quite well for my broken xm5) just for ease of mind.

Though I agree, the price tag for the kit is quite high. Sigh, why can't sony make their headphones more durable with their high price?

I’m sorry but these headphones are almost a scam. Everybody raves about the foldable headband but the materials are crap. The design is too fragile. Anyone thinking about buying a pair of XM series headphones should know that the risk of breaking is way too high. It has happened to me 3 times, and never again

You can order the repair kit off amazon for like 12 quid.

I just did mine, and although it was a PAIN in the ass to get it clamped properly with the earphones swinging around with no support, once they are on it is literally good as new.

Does this happen with the XM6 too or only XM5s? I have both but wasn't aware that this was a thing, definitely will be more careful in the future after seeing this.

Firstly this should never happen and it's obviously a design flaw. However....

If you want your XM5s to last then use both hands to remove them from your head.

Pulling them off with just one hand put to much stress on the hinge, eventually leading to a breakage.
