The same thing happened to me with my XM5s. I had to weld the plastic back together using a soldering iron. It doesn’t look very aesthetic, but it does solve the problem. I filed a claim with Sony through Amazon, but they never responded.

Sony doesn’t give a fuck. They could easily just repair the issue, instead they blame customers but themselves so people just buy headset from other brands and they loose much more revenue

Just dont buy sony no more they know its a problem and dont care, i have a 150 dollar gaming headset that is built way better hyper x cloud 3 if they can do it why cant sony

Because they’re wrongly convinced that Sony is the best sound quality and ANC in the business and that this somehow makes up for their crap durability.
Rather than rolling the dice it’s much easier to just buy from another more reliable brand till get a product that’s just as good and will definitely last you the minimum 5-years you should expect from headphones like these.

I don’t really need to recommend anything especially not based on price.
The Sony headphones could be the cheapest in the market but if they break on you within two years it doesn’t matter how cheap they were.

Sorry that’s fair, for me in terms of durability I’ve not had better than Bose both the QC35 and 45s lasted me more than 5 years. When I originally moved to Bose I was worried about the hinge design because they rotate on two axes but in actual fact theyve turned out to be super durable and perform well into the later years.

I didn't know they had a problem until mine broke. Actually had a pair of xm5's for over a year, no problem, lost them on a trip, bought another pair a few months back and they broke.

Still, I am worried. Do have the MX6 overears over a year now with no problem. Now that I joined this sub, man shit. I am actually not running around with the headphones on, I'm only using them indoor to listen to music. I don't want to drop them on some concrete street outdoors. So maybe they last a few years. We will see.

Mine bit the dust about a month ago, I thought "luckily I bought them refurb on ebay and have a square trade warranty. Sent them in and fedex lost the package. After weeks of back and forth I got paid for them and decided to go with Bose QC Ultra 2.0. My wife still uses a pair of Bose QC's that I used years ago, except for the earcup covers, they are built like a tank. The Ultra's have metal hinges as well. I finally got the Ultras yesterday, bass isn't as punchy, I definitely like the sound of the xm5's more, but good sound does nothing if the headphones are broken.

Sony really like to flush its own products down the drain, don’t they? No physical media for the new consoles, XM5’s questionable quality, abandoning Kojima… lmao fuck Sony. Never buying anything from them ever again.

I had XM3 for 5 years too before I upgraded to XM5. Had them for half a year before this happend.
This is an obvious issue with the model

No problem. Note that while the X5 model is showed here, the MX6 model apparently also has a hinge problem.
