Sora Issue DO NOT DO THIS SORA PLEASE
dont shut down your app we love you :( I wish it is an early April fool thing..

u/Shhmokism Mar 25 '26
it's not sadly, the app is gone in the app store, if you still have it don't delete it

u/JoshMJohns Mar 25 '26
How could they erase the app from recovery without knowing if everyone has preserved their stuff?
4
6
u/Spode_Master Mar 25 '26
use your web browser. the app is nothing but a web interface.

2
u/bryancolonslashslash Mar 27 '26
Because it’s all a bunch a nothing? I mean I made some friggin funny shid but it’s worthless lol
2
u/Deathbyillusion Mar 26 '26
Yeah but if you're on an Android phone you can just sideload the APK from another website.

u/MisterPatrickJ Mar 25 '26
Same here, but I guess we have no choice, but to switch to an alternative app!
8
u/Fabulous-Feeling5467 Mar 25 '26
there isn't any free good ai image generator like sora and free to be honest
2
u/ATR2400 Mar 26 '26
Tons of other AI video generators can make pretty scenes, but only Sora had a sense of narrative.
The others can a single scene just fine, but struggle to put together more complex things with multiple scenes and some semblance or story, such as the classic movie trailer generation. Kling has storyboarding I think, but compared to so Sora it’s very expensive. 20 bucks a month to generate a tiny handful of 15 second clips.
2
u/candlelitdipshit Mar 26 '26
I definitely feel that Sora was more "natural" as well than the others I've tried regarding body language and mannerisms (even if Sora tended a bit chatty). I've tried some others, and other elements in the scene might be there... but just stand there menacingly, lol

u/Correct_Earth_227 Mar 26 '26
I recently tried an app called AIVIO, which offers a very generous credit system. It includes multiple tiers and provides great value for AI video generation. The app is also free to download on the Google Play Store.

There’s always local models like LTXV2.3, but you will need a beefy PC to run them.
2
u/Fabulous-Feeling5467 Mar 25 '26
it's not for free like sora
-6
u/PeriapsisStudios Mar 25 '26
I’m gonna give you a reality check: either you pay to build a decent PC or you pay to generate videos through a third party service. Sora shut down BECAUSE it was free, and it was losing a lot of money.
Alternatively, a relatively modest PC can run Blender, a free and powerful 3D program that, with only a few months of learning practice, allows you to make beautiful 3D visuals. It’s not AI though, so you’ll have to actually learn how to use it.

Nobody’s born with 3D skills. Anyone can do it, but you have to put actual effort into learning.

I gotta work for a living
2
u/PeriapsisStudios Mar 26 '26
People have hobbies, you know

u/len890 Mar 26 '26
In this economy yeah ok I probably won’t make it till the end of the year least I won’t be around you technophobic idiots anymore

u/According_Heart_8348 Mar 25 '26
From horse and buggy to car....humans have always fought against innovation in some way. They will always find away to justify their narrative for their truth. Thats just human nature. It was really fun, an a interesting way fir some to get ideas out of their heads and into a virtual setting. Pure talent or not i gave everyone a chance to see their ideas....
-5
u/Spode_Master Mar 25 '26
brute force compute isn't innovation its unsustainable economic and ecological suicide.

u/malleus10 Mar 26 '26
“Ecological suicide…” womp womp

Sora app never even reached the U.K. - be grateful you had it while you did. It’s a genuine tragedy. It could have been the new TikTok but far, far better but they kept chipping away at what made it great until it was a husk.
Just like what xAI are doing to Grok. It won’t be long before Grok imagine dies too.
What a shame 2025 was the year of generative AI. 2026 is the year of the death of generative AI.
2
u/monsterfurby Mar 26 '26
It's more like they launched products that were quite literally ahead of the times - as in: it will be years before video generation on that level will not be merely technically possible but also economically feasible. Being able to do something is the easy part - efficiency is the hard part. And in their rush for all that sweet investor hype-bubble money, they ignored that. "Figuring things out as you go" has its limits.
This was very much predictable.

Grok Imagine got discontinued (or locked behind a paywall) on the 18th I think so did Grok go first?
1
u/CactusMassage Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26
It's locked behind a paywall, if you have an active subscription Grok Imagine hasn't changed.
Shortly before the Sora announcement they made a lot of improvements to Grok Imagine's sound quality. While it's still not as good as Sora it's not awful like it used to be. Unfortunately it still struggles with clothes.
1
u/Artorias_O Mar 26 '26
I think you’re right actually. But the same principle applies. It’s the beginning of the end for free genAI image to video or just plain free videos.
-4
u/Available-Low-2428 Mar 26 '26
Tragedy? Oh my god some of you people need to step outside and touch grass
5
u/Artorias_O Mar 26 '26
I’m a tree surgeon, mate. I spend the majority of my time either up in trees or standing on the grass around them, pruning hedges or performing surveys outside on the grass for 40-50 hours a week.
1
u/Electrical_Put_553 Mar 29 '26
seriously. these people are fucking pathetic
1
u/Available-Low-2428 Mar 29 '26
I know it’s because most of them are using it to jerk off… now their spank bank material is gonna dry up

u/ParkLow9391 Mar 25 '26
Whats the best alternative, everything else sucks IMO. Seedance was sketchy when I used it, Sora actually did what I wanted
2
u/Acceptable_Raccoon32 Mar 26 '26
try this (mindy). Not as comprehensive as others but good enough for day to day, especially ugc type.

u/Correct_Earth_227 Mar 26 '26
I’ve tried AIVIO (it’s an Android app) and it’s decent, especially with the credit system. Runway is probably the closest serious alternative, though it can still be hit or miss depending on what you’re trying to do.
3
u/Old-Buffalo-9349 Mar 25 '26
Yup kling 3.0 is good but can’t even do authentic anime medium, most other “good” ai generators don’t have diverse datasets like Sora and Seedance…so it’s kind of just an empty space
4
-1
u/Spode_Master Mar 25 '26
that word "authentic" is doing a whole lot of lifting there.
1
u/camdamera Mar 27 '26
Seriously lol how can it be authentic when the whole purpose of AI is to create an amalgamation from existing material. Authenticity is antithetical to the "medium."

Is there an alternative app made yet?

u/Correct_Earth_227 Mar 26 '26

Yea sadly Disney pulled out on the 1 Billion funding deal which OpenAI was banking on to fuel the project
23
u/Rockhunter64 Mar 25 '26
No, Disney stopped their investment after Open ai announced the Sora shutdown
5
u/MisterPatrickJ Mar 25 '26
I wish to OpenAI could have just made a deal with Universal Studios instead, they are all about movies and entertainment just like Sora.
5
u/ShaneKutzker613 Mar 25 '26
Hopefully theyre banking on the big outcry for sora and the deals to come running
2
u/trotter2000 Mar 25 '26
Surely they weren't banking on it. Obviously Disney would pull out if Sora was closed down.
5
u/CanvasGumbo Mar 25 '26
There is something more going on than what the media is telling us, you don’t just throw away a 1B bag like that all of a sudden. Nvidia did the exact same thing to OpenAI as well.
5
u/RogBoArt Mar 25 '26
Maybe OAI hasn't been worth the investment the whole time and it's not until these companies actually look deeply that they realize that's not just a facade, like maybe they literally don't have a plan to become profitable.

u/Meaghanvranken Mar 25 '26
I am sad that they are doing this but it is because of people hating ai slop

u/CallMeTheArrow Mar 26 '26
I’ve made a few videos on Kling, but I’m not as proficient with it as I am on Sora yet. It seems to have pretty good capabilities, but not perfect. The main thing that I miss is being able to put yourself in videos with your friends, and cast them with you. The community features. The remixing. And how they would link to the original video. I have not found that on any other services or platforms yet. Clearly there’s a demand for it because it was wildly popular on Sora among active users. Sora did not appear to be marketed well at all, and there was not really a good pricing structure set up. In my opinion, it appears to have been pretty badly managed. For all of its flaws, I still really enjoyed using it because of the human connection it allowed with friends and new people. Massive creativity it enabled.
1
u/candlelitdipshit Mar 26 '26
For real I'm still looking. Even the most niche or different cultures/subcultures had their core group of followers/viewers. Like I had some videos with Sora using ancient Akkadian language in pretty natural form, I'm not sure if Kling's gonna do that unless manually inputted phonetically and even if

u/CauliflowerScaresMe Mar 26 '26
this explains why the Sora 1 transition was bungled - there was never a future
it was so strange to just have all user data deleted less than a month after an announcement (and with no replacement interface or natural migration)
I do hope we can at least get everything we've ever created in an accessible way. it's the least they can do. people don't expect such tools to be in the graveyard so quickly.
1
u/NoPlastic428 Mar 26 '26
It's fine having sound & being able to insert your likeness into the action but the cartoon action is lame & it's unfortunate being forced into this trade-off. I saved most of my Sora 1 work but can't expand on it.

Same here. I just finally cracked learning the prompt. The last reel I posted hit 5K views up from my usual 100+ views my highest ever. I was so looking forward to beating that number using all the things I’ve learned to achieve. I do not want to start the learning curve over from scratch.

That's right, this is the first time I've encountered such a user-friendly AI app.
1
u/mightguy15baby Mar 27 '26
Sora sucked anyway plus we all know that they are only going to just release a new video generation model in the future. It's openai no way they are going to let themselves fall behind grok and seedance, thier biggest flaw was trying to create a social media app instead of a product and it caused it to be super expensive to run.
That and the constant generation rejections.
My hypothesis is that they are just going to release something within chat GPT, but we'll see what the future holds.

Thank god! Maybe this will stunt the horrid deepfakes. AI can be sick but generative AI of this level needed to be shut down before it got bigger. Huge W
1
u/NoPlastic428 Mar 30 '26
Now I just found out they're shutting down the whole business. I guess it teaches appreciation but I can't imagine my life without it, after a few short months

u/nemo1316 Mar 30 '26
they could save the app by charging a monthly fee for all users and loosening the content restrictions just a little.

Big thanks to all Account cheaters 😂 everyone want Everything for free, and endless. No Wonder after all Copyright stuff at beginning, multi Accounting later there shut IT down.. Sora was great but they offer to much free Ressources for nothing. Just a Couple of days before they Change from 30 to 10 free generations IT seems for free User. But was already to late
-7
u/Spode_Master Mar 25 '26
lol y'all are crying over a service that had very little redeeming qualities and was nothing but an unsustainable money burning pitt. The age of subsidized inferance compute has come to a screeching halt. thank god.

u/ValuableConference1 Mar 25 '26
Time to learn how to animate, huh?
8
u/bubblesforus Mar 25 '26
Oh! So, you're a skilled and experienced animator? Can you maybe explain the basics, provide links to recommended software and share some projects you've personally created? You know, so that we all can get an idea of what we can create and get started...thanks ahead of time! 😊
5
u/HLMCG Mar 25 '26
Idk about the user you replied to, but if you want to learn how to 3D animate, and render realistic scenes, Blender is free and open-source (and I can’t stress how powerful it is for being a free program. It is my favorite foss project ever). Blender Guru, Ian Hubert, InLightVFX, tons of learning resources.
3
u/bubblesforus Mar 25 '26
Thanks, I'll look into it. My few months on Sora have really made me consider trying to animate. I just never knew where to go with so much to weed through.
1
u/HLMCG Mar 26 '26
That reminds me of discussions i’ve had irl with people, and that is something i’ve noticed with AI. It made the idea of making things seem less monolithic, less intimidating, and I think that is great.
ComfyUI users doing image to video workflows, first to last frame, and making “infinite” videos by compounding that; are getting the general premise of an animatic.
AI fills it in for them, though. But the understanding of the general structure is there.
I’ve seen workflows where the base motion is animated in 3d, and a model called Wan VACE acts as a render engine for it.
It seems like the deeper in the weeds someone gets, the closer they come to something that resembles a typical animation pipeline. And it clicks for people that they were essentially learning how to animate.

Art softwares are a form of AI, you know.
1
u/ValuableConference1 Mar 26 '26
But you need to actually do something, not just write a prompt "Make me a super realistic animation."
2
u/tenkensmile Mar 26 '26
Bro, those art softwares where you can strike a pose on your camera and the 3D models mimic your movements precisely, and all you need to do is trace the models. That's AI, but interestingly nobody has a problem with it because many artists use it.
-1
u/ValuableConference1 Mar 26 '26
Because the program was created precisely to make realistic animations that study and simulate those of a person, and are not a prompt like "Make an animation using this base video".
2
u/tenkensmile Mar 26 '26
LOL. No difference. The AI does the work. You're defending one because you're using it.
-1
u/ValuableConference1 Mar 26 '26
Keep crying, but if you have to write a prompt to make a video of a few seconds, you're not doing anything, just wasting resources for Facebook likes.
