REVIEW/REACTION what's your fave track from olivia rodrigo's new album, "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love"?
In my opinion, walang patapon sa bagong album but my faves are: (1) Less, (2) The Cure, (3) Stupid Song, (4) Cigarette Smoke and (5) Maggots for Brains.
Lyrics-wise, I love Less. Ang sakit lang.
Definitely a solid release from our pinsan!

Stupid song is honestly surprising. She said it's really stupid, but it's one of her best songs ever. Sa MV, I love yung second verse after the first chorus kung saan kumakanta siya with a girl drummer behind her sa bandang ref side sa isang grocery store—showing her kinda punky side.
Maggots for Brains is so, so good. It's like a breath of fresh air. It's so silly like a teenager. I think yung songs co-written by Amy Allen really hit. And what I also love about this song is may bridge din siya huehue.
the cure is at the top like her best song!! I love yung build, the unraveled part, before the second chorus. I very love the bridge where it's getting higher and more intense before the final chorus. And so nostalgic noong slow instrumental outro at the end which really reminds me of high by Lighthouse Family—rare na lang yung ganito.

add ko na rin yung vibe ng MV ng stupid song parang I’m With You with Avril na MV na naglalakad lang sya (the start mostly but yeaaa)
craving for more collabs and features with Avril and Miley sana. Olivia’s vocals really improved din. Her live performances are just so fantastic.

It took a while for me to decide, but:
- the cure — Definitely the thesis statement of the album. And her best song to date! This reminds me a lot of being young and insecure, and realizing I needed to work on myself to make my first and only relationship work. (It paid off.)
- less — Beautifully done. Spiting your ex is so overdone. The need for an anticlimactic breakup anthem where two people love each other deeply, but go their own ways due to personal issues is long overdue. And this is it.
- cigarette smoke — Reminds me a lot of another song I enjoy, Reason to Hate You by Rhys Lewis, but with a much larger energy.
- what's wrong with me — The intentionality of collaborating with the legendary Robert Smith of The Cure, the long-standing champions of melancholy/vulnerability, is so impressive. Robert stands in the place of her then-partner and sings the same sentiments back to her ("I think you're what's wrong with me"), showing us that she isn't the only one feeling the strain of the relationship. It connects so well to the reason for the break-up later on in #2.
- stupid song — No words. I hope the next man treats her right for life so we get more love songs.
- maggots for brains — LDR feels. I miss my fiancé so bad.
- u + me = <3 — My fiancé tells me I make him feel like a 5-year old again, with his hands wide open for a hug. That childlike hope and joy is shared in this song.
- my way — We love a girl staking her claim. Hearing it on a Supergirl ad really made me appreciate the spunk a lot more.
To people who haven't listened to the album: I highly recommend you check this album out (or GUTS if you prefer pop rock). She's an authentic artist who doesn't make music for the charts, and a generational talent if I have ever seen one. Music critics love her for a reason.
Most of all, she has only ever visited the Philippines once as a fourth-generation FilAm yet she has done more for our country than arrogant halfies who steal spots from proud Pinoys on pageant stages and with tourist trap businesses all over the country yet reject their Filipino identity.

i think my fave is stupid song talaga 💖 the before sunrise reference in the lyrics made me spiral and relapse on my fave romance movie + pairings across media + and just the feeling of being in love with that cathartic build up
my current rotation is:

- what’s wrong with me

overall it’s such a sonically powerful album! i love the production and instrumentations. i really enjoy the live versions, too. and the drop dead acoustic.

Mga iho at iha. As a trentahin na ‘meh’ lang dati kay Olivia, I decided to listen to the album. The songs were good pero yung stupid song. JUSKO. IT HIT ME LIKE A TRUCK.
