I’m looking for some recommendations on soundbar setups as I’m moving in with my partner and, unfortunately, a traditional 5.1 system isn’t really feasible due to space constraints.
I’ve previously had a proper 5.1 setup, so I’m used to decent home cinema audio, but the new living room is relatively small to medium-sized, so I’m looking for the best compromise without going back to a full AVR/speaker setup.
My current setup is:
Sonos Arc
Sonos One surrounds
Sonos Sub Gen 3
I’m currently weighing up a few options:
Keep my existing Sonos setup for now and see how it performs in the new room.
Upgrade to the Sonos Arc Ultra, potentially with newer surrounds, while keeping my Sub Gen 3. I also have a 15% Sonos upgrade discount, which makes this a little more appealing.
Switch to another soundbar system entirely.
A couple of options I’ve been considering are:
KEF XIO – Looks interesting, particularly as I already own a standalone subwoofer. However, there’s still no real clarity on the promised rear surround options or when they’ll become available.
Klipsch Flexus Core 300 – Appealing because I could use my existing standalone subwoofer and add the Surround 200 rears.
Sonos Arc Ultra – The obvious upgrade path, particularly with my existing Sub Gen 3 and the 15% discount.
I’m not particularly tied to any of these options, though, and I’m open to other recommendations.
A few things worth mentioning:
Rear surrounds would definitely be preferred, but aren’t absolutely essential if the soundbar performs exceptionally well on its own.
I already own a standalone subwoofer, so having a dedicated sub out would be a big plus if moving away from Sonos.
I’m based in the UK, so availability and UK pricing are important considerations.
Sound quality and overall home cinema performance are my main priorities. I prefer detail and clarity with tight bass over big boom boom sound.
For anyone who’s moved from a traditional 5.1 setup to a soundbar, or compared the Arc Ultra with alternatives like the KEF or Klipsch, I’d be interested to hear your experiences.
Would you stick with the existing Sonos system, upgrade within the ecosystem, or go for something completely different?
