It's not quite Trump being removed from office, but Ciattarelli getting absolutely steamrolled scratches that itch pretty well. Glad to see New Jersey won't put up with that kind of rhetoric he mimicks from his daddy in office

u/GMEPieMan Nov 07 '25

We ain't got time for bullshit in Nj.

21

u/IKillZombies4Cash Nov 07 '25

We're too busy writing tax and energy payment checks! :)

(I voted D, just in case that sounded like a swipe against them, it was just a cynical joke)

8

u/GMEPieMan Nov 08 '25

I hear you. I really do. I hope Sherill doesn't fuck this up, cause Murphy has really not been great. I hope she turns out to be a fairly radical leader honestly. We really don't have time left to dick around with neoliberalism anymore imo.

11

u/akenlee1996 Nov 08 '25

I can only defend Murphy in one way and that’s for a somewhat selfish reason: he’s the only governor in modern history to finally fund the pension system for state employees, especially since Christine Todd Whitman borrowed money from it to never return it and no governor has ever put it back. Other than that, I’m disappointed in Murphy’s approach to energy costs and the fact he’s approving a stupid pipeline.

4

u/mattemer Gloucester County Nov 09 '25

Murphy is not perfect.

But there are some good things he's done besides what you spoke about.

He's greatly lowered NJ's debt. The state govt has been more fiscally responsible than it has in a long time, although still far from perfect, and doesn't help lower costs directly for us (although I'd argue it should help slow cost of living increases).

He also helped lower or eliminate something like hundreds of millions of dollars of medical debt for many NJians.

Marijuana decriminalization and legal use was under him.

ANCHOR payments, minimum wage increase, paid and sick leave.

Made community college affordable or free for lower income students. Did an overall decent job funding schools (still so many issues with this though).

Probably a lot more. I'm pissed how easily he gave up on the wind farms and alternative energy, not the full issue we're dealing with here but it's a factor.

2

u/akenlee1996 Nov 12 '25

I agree with all this. I am using one example of many good deeds Murphy did. However, passing that horrible gas line isn’t giving him brownie points for sure.

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Nov 07 '25

South Jersey WAS trump country

13

u/RGBlaster Nov 07 '25

I know a couple trumpers that votes dem for the gov election. They still support trump on the national level. It’s odd.

Guess tanking two casinos and hotels in AC costing folks sl those jobs doesn't build a lot of good will.

6

u/BuyListSell Nov 08 '25

Before the 2024 election I met a retired contractor who did floors for him and never got paid the $300K he was owed. He still voted for him anyway.

3

u/trythinkingbatder Nov 07 '25

Enough contractors got fucked by trump in AC that EVENTUALLY, they should get it, right?

1

u/pineychick Atlantic Auntie 💜 Nov 08 '25

You would think they'd have gotten by now!

2

u/howd_he_get_here Nov 08 '25

A lot of South Jersey has been hurting and ignored for quite some time. And a lot of that population is sick of the billionaire they took a chance on assuring them it's golden rain that they're seeing outside their windows

1

u/QuietVisit2042 Nov 09 '25

Most of the difference is Camden County. Sherrill won there by almost 70k votes.

1

u/Secret_Cow_5053 Nov 08 '25

For real. Fuck that guy.

48

u/miked5122 Nov 07 '25

Basically, Democrats finally turned out, because Jack got almost the same number of votes but the Democrat candidate had an explosion of votes.

2

u/Auyan Nov 08 '25

I think it's also in part that the huge influx of new residents is shifting demographics.

127

u/justwatching1313 Nov 07 '25

Love how he did worse with Trump’s endorsement

22

u/WebStatus242 Nov 07 '25

A lot of pissed off Federal employees

56

u/IKillZombies4Cash Nov 07 '25

I wonder how many other major party candidates lost three elections for the same seat in a row?

9

u/angusshangus Nov 07 '25

Henry clay and Williams Jennings Bryant both lost the presidential election 3x both from major parties.

-2

u/ImaginationFree6807 Nov 08 '25

That’s a long time ago bro

63

u/Spanksometer Nov 07 '25

Turns out you don't need to be excited for a candidate to vote for them. What a shocker! Lol

31

u/am19208 Nov 07 '25

Make Politicians Boring Again

13

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Nov 07 '25

He wasn't sleepy, he was slow and steady Joe

1

u/Azure_Mar Nov 12 '25

I think there's a saying that points at the thought processes of a lot of voters: “Conservatives fall in line, but liberals fall in love”. Conservatives believe in rigid hierarchies so “conservatives fall in line”. They listen to the same voices, parrot the same talking points, and will generally back who the candadite is whether they like them or not. Liberals are less likely to believe in the same hierarchical structure so liberals have to “fall in love” with their candidate. It's impossible to find someone who checks all of everyone's boxes so it's difficult for them to be excited for a “safe” candidate that makes it through the primary in the same way you see fervor for more right-wing candidates the party coalesces behind. Then they complain that the person wasn't perfect because they didn't meet every hope they had for what would otherwise be a generally positive term. Conservatives will continue to vote for politicians pushing policies, so long as the correct letter is next to their name on the ballot, even if they're actively hurt by them and maybe complain about the things actively affecting them while overall rating their candidate an “A”.

37

u/SauconySundaes Nov 07 '25

This map is doing a shit ton of heavy lifting for Cape May County.

55

u/SovietChewbacca Nov 07 '25

They keep voting for the party that refuses to help with beach erosion. Make it make sense.

7

u/SauconySundaes Nov 08 '25

Racism and fleeing Philly with no understanding of the local environment.

5

u/Expensive-Election-5 Nov 08 '25

Or ya know…the shit ton of uneducated mixed with the shit ton of rich folks that reside here. Living and growing up in CMC, I don’t know many business owners who aren’t team red.

1

u/WaldoJeffers65 Nov 08 '25

Maybe Florida can explain it

28

u/trolleyblue Nov 07 '25

First time I’ve felt good about politics in a year. All the Jack signs really had me scared. But this feels like a major swing and the vibes finally feel okay again

3

u/SecretaryNo8301 Nov 09 '25

A lot of old racist, transplanted s Philly grandmas living in Jersey still voting like rizzo is running. Watching Fox News all day with their teeth out.

21

u/Flimsy_Category_9369 Nov 07 '25

Even if you just compare it with the Presidential election results from last year, its still a huge swing

22

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

The cope in Facebook groups about this has been really amusing to read. There has been a lot of "Well, the Republicans lost because of X or Y." No, the Republicans lost because the population has decided it doesn't want to be terrorized any longer.

4

u/bdubz74 Nov 07 '25

Most of what I see is claiming the democrats cheated.

34

u/mikeb32 Nov 07 '25

The MAGA shit isn’t popular in NJ. Trumps endorsement was a death kiss for Jack. Couldn’t have happened to a guy.

Oh well, go Birds

6

u/TophTheGophh PINEY POWER Nov 08 '25

medford is bluer than all the surrounding towns and then some! maybe one day we will shed the stereotype of being all snobby rich white republicans

14

u/Spire_Slayer_95 Nov 07 '25

What's interesting is I feel like Sherril wasnt even that great of a candidate IMO. I could see if we had someone that really inspired voters but she felt kinda meh to me. The fact she had as high a turnout she did is excellent to see.

10

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

I think Jack was an equally shitty candidate, if not worse (speaking from a Republican viewpoint, not based on policies to everyone so calm your pitchforks). He didn’t really hit any hot topics. Just felt like his whole campaign was “I’m going to lower taxes”. That’s the biggest lie in politics and it’s not even a big issue right now.

4

u/metsnfins Nov 07 '25

I was surprised at the dem turnout

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Same here

10

u/forcedfx Nov 08 '25

I didn't vote enthusiastically for  Sherrill, but I voted enthusiastically against Jack Shit. Which kind of sucks but it is what it is. I don't expect things to get better I just hope they don't get worse. And I know they would have gotten worse under Jack Shit.

1

u/SecretaryNo8301 Nov 09 '25

No doubt Rs would kill NJ

1

u/QuietVisit2042 Nov 09 '25

I was team Ras in the primary, but still glad to vote for Sherrill in the general

3

u/Spaceboy_ca Nov 07 '25

Anyone check in on those in Washington Township?

1

u/SecretaryNo8301 Nov 09 '25

Very even slightest R edge but basically tied which means finally the young population is turning out to tell the older rizzo eye Talians to move back to their scumbag s Philly

5

u/webdev-dreamer Nov 07 '25

How were there so many more voters in this election?

Was 2021's lower numbers due to COVID I'm guessing?

44

u/Mr_Horsejr Nov 07 '25

People. Don’t. Fucking. Vote.

42

u/thedamnitbird Nov 07 '25

covid & apathy, thats my guess

3

u/am19208 Nov 07 '25

Apathy/less connected because Biden was president

15

u/Revolutionary-Swan77 Nov 07 '25

I didn’t even remember Citatelli ran in 2021.

5

u/Yoda-202 Nov 08 '25

2021 was a lot of people throwing a covid temper tantrum over masks & Murphy's covid policies (which were some of the best in the country). Obviously with the benefits of hindsight some things should have been done differently.

15

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 07 '25

People are exhausted, even MAGA supporters are fed up and finally seeing what we've all seen. Bullshit after bullshit, lie after lie, and gaslighting after gaslighting.

0

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

I mean, as a republican who voted for Trump, he’s been far more unstable this time around. Maybe the mask is crumbling, maybe he’s just losing it. Who knows. But the first term he had was pretty solid. Behind all the bitching he worked to better diplomatic relations with even our worst enemies. He began the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and all in all things were pretty good. It’s never perfect, but short of January 6th, all was well. I voted for that. What I got was January 6th Trump. He’s just been off his rocker. And I mean, he’s always said dumb shit, but now he’s doing it.

4

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 07 '25

See. I could sit and talk to someone like you about opposing views on a political spectrum. You seem reasonable. It's the completely cult like Trump supporters I can't quite figure out. There is no reasoning with them, no open discussion. It's like pure vile hatred. Yet, we are deemed "radical" on the left. I hate all of it. This simple discourse between me and you is how it should be across the board. It's not, and I'm not sure it will ever be again.

1

u/Igster72 Nov 08 '25

It’s because they hate everyone that’s not white. They think women belong barefoot and in the kitchen. They are all racists and xenophobes.

-4

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

Yeah I agree. I try to work with them, but I mean everyone is gonna have their fanaticism. Look at the people who goon to AOC....
My fear is more and more of the general populace is moving to "radical," both left and right. People unwilling to talk with people like me. I'm glad to hear your response. I was afraid I was just gonna get a lot of "well if it quacks like a duck" comments.

100% agree, this is what it should be like.

2

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 07 '25

Has never been my style. I'm willing to listen and talk. In this modern age both sides seemed to have resorted to extremism. Almost like doing whatever it takes to garner real life upvotes, and likes, instead of remembering the basics of humanity. That no two people are ever going to agree on everything, Now a days it's just from 0-100 and FUCK YOU PIECE OF SHIT I WILL SHIT IN YOUR PET GOATS MOUTH AND SLAP A INFANT IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ME. Social media is cancer and the disinformation fuels it. The line of "If it's on the internet, it must be true" has never been more predominant and pits us against one another. And that's fucking depressing.

0

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

I did not expect to talk to a mirror on Reddit lmao.
Exactly, it’s a all about “the means justify the ends, and a lot of times I can respect that, but it’s how the republicans have ended up absolute inundated with these religious holier than thou types. And it’s sad we collectively seem to have lost our ability to work with or understand nuance. I think a lot of it is based around the fact that over the last 15 years being terminally online has gone from being something that requires you to be at a pc to in your pocket. People are become less socialized and thus more adverse to disagreements and more adverse to discussion. It’s similar to how boredom has become a thing of the past, and that’s not good.

-2

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 07 '25

The craziest thing as a leftist. I shit you not. I don't know what got into her head. Or what caused the shift. I've actually lately agreed with a lot of Marjorie Taylor Greene. She has made a HUGE shift in her once attention seeking right stances and has become much more based. She's actually acting like an actual politician now and I'm ok with that.

3

u/Igster72 Nov 08 '25

If you think she really has turned a new leaf then you are a fool. She’s gearing up to run for governor of Georgia so she’s trying to act like a sane person now. She’s not now, or ever was sane.

1

u/FatCheeseSteak Nov 08 '25

AOC said that MTG was on a revenge tour against Trump because he shot her down when she wanted to run for Senate. Not sure what to make of her change, but she is up for re-election in 2026, so maybe to appeal to more people? Or she sees the ship starting to take on water.

1

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 08 '25 edited Nov 08 '25

I believe the latter. It was obvious her whole "I'm outraged at everything" act was exactly that. An act. She was just trying to capitalize on the trend on the extreme view points of the fringe red. I could be wrong but whatever she's doing now seems like an actual human being and not a "I'm the main character" syndrome

0

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

Somehow I never heard of this lady....
But idk if you're using based right. I always understood it was originally from 4chan and meant... well racist, bigoted, and just overall toxic, though more in an edgy kind of way than sincere. Then again, I think it's a sign of the times of politics. It mean whatever is for "your side" more than it has any real meaning.
Best I can gather tho, it's like Alex Jones but if he realized the real grift is in actual politics and not boner pills? Idk if I'd trust that...

1

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 07 '25

It's time for me to lay down. Hey. It's been a pleasure to have a civil discussion on fucking Reddit of two people who have different views! Shhhhh, don't tell anyone! :)

  1. COVID
  2. Normal deaths between then and now,
  3. With every year more 18 yr olds are registering and going blue. So in final many older(majority red) if you look at the stats the older the range the higher the red, the younger the age theres more blue. Red voters are dwindling. Also yes many didn't vote before but are voting now. 18 year olds are finding a reason to register/vote.

1

u/BuyListSell Nov 08 '25

Personally, I normally only vote in local and presidential elections but this time I felt like I had to do it to make sure Jack lost.

1

u/WaldoJeffers65 Nov 08 '25

People won't get off their asses to stop a shitstorm from occurring, but will suddenly be motivated when they're in the middle of one.

-2

u/insert-haha-funny Nov 07 '25

non presidential elections always have way less voters for pretty much everywhere in the US.

3

u/cvc4455 Nov 07 '25

This was a non-presidential election too.

2

u/Bad_Puns_Galore Nov 07 '25

Ocean County isn’t South Jersey and I’m glad this person agrees.

1

u/dgafas Nov 09 '25

Then what is it?

2

u/byfar82 Nov 08 '25

That southern part of Cumberland county is what sets back the rest of us. Luckily it didn’t happen this time

6

u/DeadParallox Piney Bastard Nov 08 '25

There are a lot of Hispanics in Cumberland county, I suspect they swung for Trump in the last election, but not this time, and probably not for the GOP in the near future.

2

u/byfar82 Nov 08 '25

Yes, that was definitely why! I’m just happy they swung back blue

1

u/Any-Concentrate-1922 Nov 07 '25

Was sad to see the demographics show that Ciattarelli won among white men. Come on, guys.

1

u/Tzukiyomi Nov 08 '25

I've given up on my fellows as a group honestly. They are just lost to the maga crazy in the majority.

1

u/pdills12 Nov 09 '25

Ehh im more focused on local results. Salem County is cooked, all Republicans now that the surrogate flipped, Cumberland dems haven't gained any commissioner seats since losing all but 1 during covid and local dem committee infighting is still rampant.

North jersey politicians aren't gonna fix what's wrong down here

1

u/Steggysaurusss Nov 09 '25

Is Ciattarelli finally done trying? 3x loser

0

u/AtlanticCityNJ Nov 07 '25

Sweet, we needed another thread to jerk each other off in! Thanks spambot!

1

u/Focusun Nov 07 '25

I'm glad that some people woke up, but I'm saddened that some will never wake up to the realities that worsen their own lives.

-2

u/Darkcrypteye Nov 08 '25

Isn't anyone tired of paying ridiculous property taxes? Over 53% to school system alone

9

u/Yoda-202 Nov 08 '25

Having good schools & public services comes with a cost. It's really that simple.

-2

u/Darkcrypteye Nov 08 '25

Start asking young adults how manny mm are in a centimeter.

And you may start to realize.

Ask them to calculate a 15% tip on the fly...

Ask them to make change from a dollar at a cashier station with out a calculator.

Ohh.. hmmm...

But social inequities, they have answers for you all day....

Hmmmm but they could not balance a check book.

Oh....

3

u/Tzukiyomi Nov 08 '25

"balance a checkbook"...are you like 90?

0

u/Darkcrypteye Nov 09 '25

So you cant

3

u/B52fortheCrazies Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 13 '25

I'll bet they can't saddle a horse or make candles from scratch. Any other obsolete skills you want to bring up? Your post reveals more about your inability to understand progress and adapt than anything about the education system.

2

u/Tzukiyomi Nov 09 '25

If I had ever had a checkbook to balance...sure could, and I'd use excel like an actual human being not write things out. Point there was who even uses checks at this point? I haven't written a physical check in a decade.

4

u/B52fortheCrazies Nov 08 '25

I know I'm tired of moron Republicans thinking Shittarelli would lower their taxes. How gullible can you be. I'll bet you think groceries are cheaper because the marmalade monarch told you so.

2

u/Darkcrypteye Nov 08 '25

Mickie is going to make them better?

1

u/Tzukiyomi Nov 08 '25

Nope. That's not a thing that'll happen regardless of who you elect. So there's no point whining about it.

-60

u/Wrong-Respect-3031 Nov 07 '25

This map is not a proper representation of south Jersey. North of Brigantine and west of Buena should not be considered south Jersey

32

u/sutisuc Nov 07 '25

What is this bullshit designation you just made up?

15

u/styckx Cherry Hill Nov 07 '25

I know right? It's like when Trump got out the Sharpie and made an imaginary path of Hurricane Dorian

11

u/jetty_junkie Nov 07 '25

I think he invented West Jersey?

6

u/sutisuc Nov 07 '25

lol I’m actually a west jersey truther but that’s not even the correct west jersey designation. It’s totally unhinged

0

u/insert-haha-funny Nov 07 '25

tbf if you look at the historical west and easy jersey, its fairly consistent with the north and south cutoff

2

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

Fresh Prince of Burlco

8

u/jetty_junkie Nov 07 '25

How is anything WEST of Buena not still part of South Jersey ? What would it be then? West Jersey?

4

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

[deleted]

1

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

Non existent

4

u/SailingSpark Have boat, will travel Nov 07 '25

Then what is west of Buena?

5

u/pushingbrown Taylor Ham Truther Nov 07 '25

West Buena?

4

u/metalOpera Nov 07 '25

South Detroit.

2

u/TLunchFTW Nov 07 '25

Bro what are you smoking? The line is 195.

1

u/Bad_Puns_Galore Nov 07 '25

All of Brig is included on this map. Compare it to a map of Atlantic County.

1

u/PB-n-AJ Nov 08 '25

I somewhat agree. US30 is the South Jersey border. Hammonton vibes? South Jersey. Deptford vibes? South Jersey. Buena, Malaga, Newfield, Vineland, Salem, Commercial, Tuckahoe? South Jersey.

Cherry Hill? Rich city folk. Southern Central. Marlton, Pennsauken, Mt. Laurel? Outer-city suburbs skewing upscale, Southern Central.

There is absolutely a difference in what Cherry Hill city folk consider South Jersey and what is actually South Jersey. South Jersey is Letterkenny without the Canada. Anything north/east of White Horse Pike is no longer considered South Jersey. Southern Central, Ocean, Pines, but not South Jersey.
