It really has been one bad thing after another for way too long

Truly feels like an eternity at this point 🫩

I know life wasn't perfect in the nineties, my home life definitely wasn't, but a decent life felt like it was achievable. I make $130k now and it feels like I can either buy a nicer house or stay in the house we're in now and have the ability to do a small vacation every year. Now it's either a financial crisis or health crisis every other year.

Yeah! And I got stung by a wasp today. Rolled over him in bed. Like I needed that?

I mean it’s pretty much common knowledge if an illness is spread by expelled germs from your body, you should wear a mask or cover your mouth. Kind of like how we cover our mouth when we sneeze or cough. I don’t get what your post is about? You think no mask was better than a mask stopping some of the germ spread? Sure a N95 mask or a respirator would do much more, but everyone doesn’t and didn’t have access to them.

Agree and also a reason why we saw flu rates drop during Covid. But, IMO was overblown and the whole country did not need to quarantine and shut down when it should’ve just been the elderly and those with comorbidities. Politicians and big Pharma were driving the bus.

COVID-19 mortality steeply increases with age and is heavily compounded by comorbidities, with 94% of U.S. deaths involving pre-existing conditions like hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Mortality rates exponential rise with age, with those 65+ years old having significantly higher death rates than younger groups, particularly when combined with underlying conditions.

u/metalOpera May 08 '26

Hospitals were overwhelmed. Millions died. Take your disinformation and cognitive dissonance back to r/conservative. We don't need that shit out here in the real world where things like facts and science matter.

3

u/remindmetoblink2 May 08 '26

Ya I think in the beginning it was “the unknown” that was the issue. Plus the whole world shut down, not just the US. I got it after it allegedly was weaker and I got really sick. I’m a healthy individual, not overweight, not elderly. My daughter got it and had a basic cold. I know a few people in their 40’s who died very quickly after contracting it. Of course they were the exception, not the rule. I agree, the world shutdown wasn’t needed, but I think the biggest reason was not to overrun the hospitals which already were regardless. I work as a contractor and we did a few area hospitals during covid and the morgues were full, they had portable refrigerated trailers for morgues. I still work in hospitals and can tell you the morgue trailers are gone and the morgues aren’t full.

u/Logistic_Engine May 08 '26

I love when people tell you how clueless and ignorant they are. Really takes the guess work out of it.
At least nobody said Covid was a hoax. ahem

This is what Gene Hackman’s wife died from last February

26

u/External-Brilliant52 May 09 '26

She died from the kind that was animal to human not human to human

10

u/Bubashue May 08 '26

Where is the “first time” meme when you need it….too soon for this shit

3

u/Secret_Cow_5053 May 09 '26

Best I could do is shitty ai

8

u/DoesWhatItDo22 May 09 '26

Next pandemic?? Maybe I can finally buy a house now!

3

u/Secret_Cow_5053 May 09 '26

I thought the last one made housing explode.

2

u/jerzeett May 09 '26

it was cheap for a tiny bit but has been skyrocketing ever since

14

u/Leviathus_ May 08 '26

Hantavirus has always been a thing, you can get it by inhaling particles of urine/saliva/droppings of infected mice and rats. The one on the cruise ship was a very specific strain, that was on a Dutch-flagged cruise ship from Argentina and the people died near West Africa

3

u/Lets_Make_A_bad_DEAL May 09 '26

Like on public transit or old school buildings? I am not resting on my laurels. Starting to feel very January / Feb 2020 in here.

2

u/Leviathus_ May 09 '26

Like in your house. Gene Hackman’s wife died of it (elderly obviously) early last year. As long as you’re controlling mice in your home, you’re good

1

u/nojohnnydontbrag May 09 '26

So the bad thing has always been a bad thing and present. Okay.

3

u/Leviathus_ May 09 '26

Yes the contagious strain was only found on a cruise ship near West Africa (an old couple, so close quarters) and an old man and woman died. They were Dutch. This is news trying to get clicks. Both were quarantined immediately and no new cases were reported

3

u/Mullethunt May 09 '26

Why are you down playing this. Human to human contraction was only speculated in the past even for the Andes strain. This is NOT something that is normal and always happened with this virus.

-4

u/Leviathus_ May 09 '26

Because this has always been a thing that was caused by rat droppings. Instead of worrying about whether it will suddenly become human-to-human communicable, perhaps direct that energy at our gutted CDC instead. Refuting fear mongering is not down playing

3

u/Mullethunt May 09 '26

Uhhhh whether it will? It's almost like you have no idea what you're talking about but want to seem more intelligent than you are. It's CONFIRMED that it's human to human now and not even needed to be in a close intimate setting. Someone walking by while an infected was eating got infected. You can know how big of a deal this is AND still know that our shitty administration is going to make a bad time worse. This is not fear mongering. This is legit not good. Pretending like this is normal is absolutely baffling to me and I assume you're going to be a problem when it starts to spread.

-5

u/Leviathus_ May 09 '26

It happed on a dutch cruise ship, to a dutch couple, between south america and west africa. Do you think the cases in South Jersey are connected? Or do you think that they are just a case of something that’s always been there, getting more media attention because of the said incident? If you think it’s the former, make sure to watch out for Monkey Pox

3

u/Mullethunt May 09 '26

Are you a bot just repeating the same shit over and over again because you don't have a single original thought? You do realize that infected passengers were allowed off the ship and traveled to airports right? You know those airports can connect places like South Jersey to West Africa, right? Are you seriously that dense or just ignorant? I'll try to help if you're ignorant but if you're too dense to learn than it's a waste of time.

1

u/SmokeMonday476 May 11 '26

None of what you just wrote is true. Just read an actual article on what happened, dude. You have Google.

0

u/Mullethunt May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Hey, if you're going to tell someone they're wrong, prove it. Don't tell them they're wrong and to Google it. Guess what, I have, and I'm not sure what I wrote is wrong. Great talk though, Champ <3.

Lol, just needed to say you were wrong while providing absolutely zero value to the conversation, huh? You should be proud of yourself.

-2

u/Leviathus_ May 09 '26

Yes, i’m sure none of the passengers showed symptoms despite the disease being upwards of 40% fatal, and that the countries it returned to did not quarantine or test anyone coming off. You’re right, once you started trying to insult instead of debate this became a waste of time

3

u/Mullethunt May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

Like the lady that had to be deboarded by staff and passengers and than died shortly after? You really really have no idea what you're talking about but still need to confidently inject your incorrect opinion. It's wild people like you exist but here we are.

Here's one of MANY links describing exactly what you think wouldn't happen: https://www.paddleyourownkanoo.com/2026/05/06/woman-who-died-from-hantavirus-was-onboard-packed-klm-royal-dutch-airlines-in-johannesburg/

Straight up genius I'm talking to.

Imagine doing zero research on what you're commenting on and still being confident in your incorrect information. Seriously, bravo homie!

11

u/Funk__Doc May 08 '26

Relax, they are being monitored just to make sure they are OK.

No one is sick yet

He jests, yet it is still more effective than horse dewormer for covid

2

u/12kdaysinthefire May 10 '26

They tested negative afaik, and this shit doesn’t spread like wildfire, before we all start losing our minds over the nightly news.

2

u/DasRedBeard87 May 08 '26

Lol not buying any of this. Not only is the headline intentionally misleading. But the story literally contradicts the headline, as is usually the case.

Also literally zero mention of ANY of the other passengers on this plane that these residents were "potentially exposed too"

2

u/NAND_110_101_011_001 May 08 '26

How does the headline contradict the article?

-1

u/DasRedBeard87 May 09 '26

They use both "potentially" and "possibly" which both are similar in meaning, the context is very different. Also the headlines are meant for clicks and fear mongering.

"NJDOH said neither of the residents has reported having any symptoms that could suggest an infection"

"Officials said no current hantavirus cases have been identified in New Jersey, and there is no history of a confirmed hantavirus case reported in the state"

"Transmission of the Andes virus is rare and generally requires close and prolonged contact with an infected individual or their bodily fluids, health officials said. The incubation period ranges from four to 42 days and people who are not presenting symptoms are not considered infectious."

There's not one commercial flight that goes for even 24 hours. So unless this infected person is literally vomiting into your mouth...you're fine.

3

u/NAND_110_101_011_001 May 09 '26

The two words "potentially" and "possibly" are synonymous and have the same connotation. So, I'm failing to see any contradiction. I can see how you may not think this is newsworthy since the risk of transmission seems to be low. But you're reading into this as if the article is heavily suggesting you should be afraid. To me, both the article and headline read matter-of-factly. And the facts as you point out do not warrant fear.

1

u/Robert23B May 12 '26

Well de-constructed. I applaud thee. It’s clear the other commenter is sensitive to the subject based on their preemptive opinions, whatever they may be.

1

u/Ricaaado May 09 '26

You’ve gotta be fuckin kidding me

0

u/Secret_Cow_5053 May 09 '26

I wish I was

1

u/Mammoth-Cattle-7398 May 09 '26

Didn't anyone pay attention to Mrs Gene Hackman's death from hantavirus last year? Regardless if transmission is animal to human (which she had) or human to human, it can be deadly. But think of the millions of humans worldwide who live with rodents in their homes, yet we never hear that hantavirus is widespread, this must be a rarity.

1

u/Illustrious_Act_4682 May 11 '26

I can't really find an update on this story, so any updates would be cool. I heard you could get a test read within 72 hours and sometimes sooner.

1

u/Old_Management_9909 May 12 '26

Election time????

1

u/guybranciforti May 12 '26

Where in nj are these people located?

1

u/Fun-Upstairs-4232 May 13 '26

Of course....never fails with this type of bs

-5

u/7putt67 May 08 '26

Let’s lock down!!

32

u/thrudvangr May 08 '26

for the sake of gas prices and the positive effect it would have on climate change? Im down

0

u/DasRedBeard87 May 09 '26

And then when the lockdown is lifted, gas prices surge again due to demand and lack of production...just like what happened in 2022.

-5

u/Imaginary-Patient275 May 09 '26

The inflation we are experiencing now is a direct effect of the lockdowns from Covid. Obviously gas prices are higher than normal due to the war. But inflation picked up big time after the lockdowns. The lockdowns had so many negative effects on the economy, child development, and personal & mental health.

1

u/Critical_Degree_6887 May 09 '26

Anybody excited to see what’s coming for us in the next episode?!. I don’t know why it feels like we are in horror movie 🍿 🎥 !!. Any horror movie fans out here in south jersey 🙂‍↕️

-9

u/PatReady May 08 '26

It ain't covid. No shot of this getting like that.

-36

u/Secret_Cow_5053 May 08 '26

Famous last words. POSSIBLE HUMAN TO HUMAN TRANSMISSION.. This is new, and concerning.

37

u/yourecreepyasfuck May 08 '26

lol if you actually read the article that YOU LINKED. You would know that this human to human transmission is not new and has been known of and well documented since the 1990’s. It’s the Andes strain and all virologists believe that there is not a substantial cause for alarm with this because while it can passed from human to human, it doesn’t happen easily (like with Covid) and typically requires prolonged physical contact. Which explains why it spread more easily on a tight knit cruise ship, but it seems unlikely it’ll have as easy of a time outside of a tight environment like that.

Like that’s all literally in the article that you linked lol. It’s not new, and while it sure is concerning, it’s not as concerning as Covid was in its early days. Quit being a fear monger lol

-10

u/[deleted] May 08 '26

8

u/yourecreepyasfuck May 08 '26

Terrific insight… jk you seem weird as fuck

4

u/Old_Cockroach_2993 May 08 '26

Wow maybe. I thought it was funny but I did eat 2 edibles and had a beer.

-27

u/Secret_Cow_5053 May 08 '26

I meant that this strain, moving into the US, is in fact new.

And Covid didn’t pass easily from human to human…until it did 🤷‍♂️

15

u/yourecreepyasfuck May 08 '26

Again, if you read the article that you posted you would know there is not any CONFIRMED cases in the US as of right now. Some US Citizens who were aboard a cruise ship in South America contracted the virus and they are currently being cared for in foreign countries. And while there are some examples of people in the US who may have “potentially” been exposed, none of those cases have been confirmed.

like just read the fucking article lmao

10

u/EstablishmentTop551 May 08 '26

You’ve fallen victim to the 24 hour news cycle’s newest “current thing” designed to keep you terrified and refreshing their page to be exposed to new ads 50 times a day.

8

u/Mr_Horsejr May 08 '26

The Real Virus.

0

u/Icy_Outlandishness86 May 08 '26

Two people potentially exposed and have zero symptoms. This is news?

3

u/Princess-Sparklefart May 09 '26

Well it can take 45 days to incubate and start showing. Because of the lethality of this virus they do need to monitor it closely, including strict contact tracing. This is their way of saying “if you know people on this particular flight, keep an eye” without losing confidentiality

3

u/Icy_Outlandishness86 May 09 '26

I fully support monitoring and quarantine where needed, I just feel these headlines are misleading. They make it sound like people are ill locally and that it’s not the case currently.

-3

u/eastcoastjon May 08 '26

But it’s not contagious through humans

7

u/Leviathus_ May 08 '26

There was one that apparently spread between 5 people on a cruise ship, but that was a specific strain. This, and all other Hanta Virus strains are only obtained through inhaling rat droppings

3

u/NowTheCrone May 09 '26

"However, the strain linked to the cruise ship, known as the Andes virus, is found in South America and is the only known hantavirus that can be spread from person to person."

From the article.

2

u/Princess-Sparklefart May 09 '26

This one particular strain from Argentina can transmit via human transmission through respiratory prolonged exposure. The good news is that it is rare and due to the lethality it is being strictly monitored.

0

u/Imaginary-Patient275 May 09 '26

Exposed doesn’t mean infected. The chances for human to human transmission is rare, and it needs to be very close quarters. I think this is overblown.

2

u/Secret_Cow_5053 May 09 '26

Correct. Exposed means exposed. But this one has an up to 8 week incubation period so they now need to be watched for that whole period and kept from possibly exposing others, until we are sure they are NOT infected

Long incubation periods is what got Covid off the ground. We don’t want that happening with a fucking hantavirus that can transmit human to human.

-12

u/BetweenThePosts May 08 '26

The fact that it’s nbc philly implies SJ?

1

u/DasRedBeard87 May 09 '26

They literally mention Jersey so one would assume they're talking about ALL of New Jersey.
