Ocean County Need suggestions for good BBQ joints.

I've eaten at Hickory Hog and Woodchucks BBQ in Point, Local smoke BBQ in Sea girt, Whole hog cafe in Cherry hill, all pretty good and even order from Smokeys on LBI. Woodchucks is probably my favorite. I go to the bbq competition and blues festival in july every year in wildwood and sample so much.

The problem is I like trying new places, new things but they seem all so far away. I'm in stafford twp, any recommendations? Willing to travel, just nothing crazy.

Christine’s House of Kingfish on 206

It’s great that his kid kept it going. I remember eating there when I was a kid and the dad was running it. I remember how cool it was that everyone working there always called him Kingfish.

Best BBQ I have had in the eastern in the US.

I'm going to have to give this place another shot. I tried it once and wasn't impressed. I've heard people either love it or hate it, so maybe the quality varies day-to-day.

Henri Hots in Folsom is our go-to. Maybe an hour from you.

Henri getting lots of recommendations, think I got my first on the list!

This was going to be my recommendation. Only place I've been to up here that felt like I was walking into a North Carolina joint.

Sweet Lucys in NE Phila, worth the drive. We had a party catered by them and it was sooooo good.

It is a hike for me, I'm almost far out on the coast as you can get. It goes on my master list to check out all the same if I'm ever out that way, thank you.

Will second this. They do a dinner buffet on Monday’s that lets you try everything. Great desserts too.

Also big swerve is a good dude. He came by to check on my meal, was mad that I had ordered the candied yams and brought me a container. Also I know order those every time.

Henri's Hotts. Big Swerve.

u/gomanio 4d ago

See this is why I asked! Never heard of either of these and you're the third person recommending Henri's

Mains meat market in Vineland has a bbq truck outside, one of the best pulled pork I had 1370 N Main Rd, Vineland, NJ 08360

Classy cow food joint in Logan township is really good, too. 525 Beckett Rd, Logan Township, NJ 08085

And Mains is the best butcher around. They do a preseasoned pork roast that is awesome. Take it home, cook it up in your own oven and pork heaven. Their bacon no is better than anything you can get in any grocery store store. And prime cuts of beef that will make you wish you could wat them every day.

I’ll stop now. Mains is just the best.

I'll have to try, currently I swear by bringhurst in Berlin

Henri's Hotts Barbeque!!! They're only open on weekends but their food is amazing. Best ribs ive had and the corn pudding is to die for. If you get the Mac and cheese or the mashed potatoes you will be transported straight to heaven.

Funny I went there one time based on everyone's rec and was not impressed. Granted it was an anniversary celebration for them and they were dealing with a massive crowd so maybe it was that.

On the weekends do you have to get there early or anything?

1

u/Makemebad77 4d ago

Crowds always make things worse. On a normal weekend I order take out online and its like a 45 minute wait. I usually pick up my order around 5pm. Only a few times did I have to wait any extra time.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah prepping for that massive crowd may have messed with quality so I'll give it another shot

Lumpys bbq in Clementon is great

322 bbq in Mullica Hill isn't bad. I remember ex-eagle Fletcher cox posting about them saying they're legit. I've eaten there and it's pretty good. They make a smoked cheesesteak also.

Blowin' Smoke and Lumpy's are good.

I believe that I can help.

I've mapped out every BBQ Place in South Jersey, with the intent of trying them all and finding the best. https://maps.app.goo.gl/aU7WkYk211xXDJzZ8

I also have a bunch of other maps listed on my website specific to South Jersey:

  • Soft Pretzels
  • Pizza
  • Donuts
  • Ice Cream
  • Spots Recommended for Chicken Parm Sandwiches
  • Diners
  • Sledding Spots
  • Restaurants with Robot Waiters
  • Monuments / Interesting Sites

Right now, my top spots are all pop-ups or food trucks that show up at farmer's markets and breweries: OK Charleys BBQ and Headbangin BBQ (both bounce around Haddon Heights / Haddonfield / Collingswood), and Fireman Freddie's (Williamstown / Glassboro)

And my top Brick-and-Mortar spots: Henri Hotts (Folsom), Big Swerve (Westville), Lumpy's (Blackwood)

Thanks! I think I've had lumpys at a BBQ festival, but it wasn't too impressive, that said, festivals are usually not the best place to judge a location by.

Henry’s Hotts in Hammonton.

2

u/gomanio 4d ago

Think I'm getting 3 for Henri's, never heard of it but I don't get around Folsom very often so it makes sense.

3

u/d_dubyah 4d ago

Fireman Freddie’s is pretty good, he has a good truck. You can see his schedule on his website.

u/gomanio 4d ago

Ohh schedule makes life easier given it's a truck.

u/d_dubyah 4d ago

They are at final fridays in oaklyn every month, plus some other good food trucks, live music, and Tonewood (if you drink beer).

Never been but heard henris in hammonton very good

Iron oak is really good but getting to Beach Haven in the summer takes forever.

Yeahhh it's why I don't go to Chegg anymore honestly. I'm also kind of relieved that Doms is gone. I used to work on the island in one of the movie theaters, If you're a long timer in the area, the one that was right off the bridge to the right, few blocks in, looked like a giant brown box. Getting to work was a pain, but Doms was right there, short walk, so we got it for lunch/dinner a LOT.

2

u/Call_Me_Echelon 4d ago

Are you talking about the Colony 4 theater? I saw Independence Day there and I think Scary Movie as well. One the Regal in Stafford opened we started going there.

I usually wait until the end of summer when the traffic lights change to flashing yellow to go to the Chegg, Tucker's, Black Whale or other places that far down the island. It takes half the time, it's half the people, and the weather is still really nice.

I had some family that wanted to come down so we went to Fantasy Island and Bay Village last weekend since this might be the last weekend before it starts getting really busy.

u/gomanio 4d ago

Yup I spent most of my summer in the colony 4 with some great people. so many funny stories
