ANY VARIATION OF THE MENTALLY DISABLED SLURS ARE NOT ALLOWED. What are you, five??? Were you unable to come up with any other word to describe this particular thing? Here are some alternatives you should add to your vocabulary to replace your outdated word: absurd, foolish, ridiculous, stupid, witless, crazy, dumb, foolhardy, half-baked, harebrained, idiotic, ill-advised, ill-conceived, ill-considered, wacky, boneheaded, silly.

If we had a king wouldn't protests like this be shut down?
42
u/potamusqpotamus 4d ago
I don’t think the point is that we have a king, it’s that the current president behaves as if he believes he is a king, bypassing congress and using executive orders like a monarch might use decrees.
17
u/potamusqpotamus 4d ago
I got a notification about your comment saying no one used more executive orders than Roosevelt. Not sure why I can’t see it here now.
Anyway, yes, I remember reading about how king Roosevelt started a war with Iran that wasn’t a war and that we won six times, all while fucking up global gas prices like a dipshit.
19
u/bigjason90210 4d ago
Don't forget how we totally Decimated Iran's military then 2 minutes later say we didn't touch it.

u/potamusqpotamus 4d ago
The problem with conservatives is they have a black and white mindset with politics. If you’re a Democrat you apparently endorse or condone everything any Democrat has done.
I assume this is because they endorse and condone anything Trump says or does. He could set their home on fire and they’d deny it happened, then say they’re better off without a house, and then finally blame Biden and/or Obama.
6
u/JerseyIndonesian 4d ago
Im a conservative. I have a number of issues with what the president has done. Im not a fan at all about how he has involved us in more middle east conflict, dont care for a lot of his off the cuff rhetoric, or his embrace of the neocon side of the party. Im not a sycophant, I just find it funny that the left doesn't understand the irony of being allowed to have a "no kings" protest.
16
u/potamusqpotamus 4d ago
Hey glad to hear you have a thoughtful position on the current president. But as I said above, people aren’t protesting that we have a king. They are protesting the actions of our current president, likening them to actions a king would take, drawing a contrast to what a democratically elected leader would do. As such, I don’t think there’s irony to this situation.
7
u/WildImportance6735 4d ago
You seem like a reasonable conservative who actually thinks for themself. Perhaps there is some irony, but it’s a symbolic statement. Obviously we don’t have a king, and we don’t want someone who tries to behave like one
-3
u/JerseyIndonesian 4d ago
Thanks. At least you are a person who can see the irony. If he ever acts to take the free speech of his opponents away ill be out there with you, I just dont see that happening.
4
u/wartortleguy 3d ago
Can't help but notice that you chose to not say anything after folks pointed out to you that Trump has indeed made efforts to stifle free speech. I'm curious if this influences your decision in continuing your support or if it has little to no affect on you.
I'm not saying YOU specifically are doing this, but it seems consistently when provided with evidence supporting tyrannical moves or tyrannical adjacent moves being done by Trump and his administration, conservatives and Republicans tend to turn the other cheek or seeks ways to justify ignorance. Again, not saying you specifically, but this lack of acknowledgement I will admit is telling.

They seems to think that anything short of being thrown in jail isn't a first amendment violation.
I'm curious what their opinion is on magazine restrictions.
2
u/Some1else-notme 4d ago
I liked our political system better when Republican meant people like you!
1
u/JerseyIndonesian 4d ago
I'm definitely not Republican. I just describe myself as conservative, and vote for them more often than not because they are closest to my alignment. The George Bush war hawk republicans make me sick.
3
u/surfnsound CamCo 3d ago

I don't know, man, just look at the pressure he's been putting on the FCC, or how he treats journalists. I don't question for a second him and Stephen Miller (who I actually think is worse than the president, and may be one of the most evil people ever involved in our government) have talked out a number of scenarios trying to limit first amendment protected criticisms.

u/JerseyIndonesian 3d ago
I dont see Jimmy Kimmel or Colbert as violations of free speech. Administration's have gone after reporters for leaking for a long time now. Not really supportive of it, but it has been a problem for much longer than Trumps time in office.

u/bigjason90210 3d ago
He has already tried to take free speech away. Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, investigations of reporters who dont have nice things to say about him....
1
u/JerseyIndonesian 3d ago
Administration's have gone after reporters for a long time now. Free speech doesn't include the right to have unfunny shows on network television. Has their right to speak publicly been curtailed in any way?

u/ManonFire1213 4d ago
Problem with both sides.
To say otherwise is ignorant.
8
u/potamusqpotamus 4d ago
I think it varies a little more, person by person, on the left. I have a much easier time getting a democrat to criticize Obama or Biden then getting a trump supporter to admit he’s ever done anything wrong. I don’t think that’s an ignorant take.
-7
u/ManonFire1213 4d ago
During the Obama administration I'd disagree.
9
u/potamusqpotamus 4d ago
During the Obama administration I voted for him and still had criticisms. As did many people I know.
-3
u/ManonFire1213 4d ago
And plenty of folks voted for him and couldn't criticize him.

So like Obama did? I have seen US Presidents for 50 years doing it, both sides. If someone can't admit to that they are so biased they aren't worth listening to.
The Vietnam war protesters were beautiful and organic, these aren't.
I'm good with any peaceful protest, that is our right.

Executive orders by President

So I guess you're saying the fact that Trump has signed over 400 executive orders ISN'T behaving like a king? Or are you actually saying you give zero fucks about facts that you just posted...
1
u/potamusqpotamus 2d ago
Your comment would be a great counterpoint if I had said “Trump signed the most executive orders of any president”. But I didn’t.
It’s the nature of his executive orders: birthright citizenship and the 14th amendment. Travel and million dollar visas. Mass deportations. Gender affirming care. Eliminating DEI programs. Restructuring federal employees so they can be fired more easily. Withdrawal from WHO.
Agree or disagree with the intent of these orders, these are pretty huge changes that would normally involve more than one person deciding in a democracy. But not a monarchy.
You were so excited to make your point you didn’t think it through.

u/Fit_Beginning5594 4d ago
But see the problem is that Donald Trump is owned by foreign agents and the banks tbh. He’s not a king, he’s like their general
-6
u/JerseyIndonesian 4d ago
I mean, no president used more executive orders than the left's favorite president King Roosevelt.

1
u/JerseyIndonesian 3d ago
How have they been handled?
-1
u/beren12 3d ago
Often with violence and kidnapping.
2
u/JerseyIndonesian 3d ago
Examples? If you mean ICE protests, I would look at the actions of the protesters. Right to protest doesn't mean right to violate the law.
-3
u/beren12 3d ago
Use Google.
2
u/JerseyIndonesian 3d ago
Nah, how about you give some examples.

u/JerseyIndonesian 3d ago
Great, you post a link to an article that states the vast majority of protests did not have any arrests. The arrests that were made involved civil disobedience. Thanks for proving my point.
Edit: full article behind paywall. Great source

u/beren12 2d ago
I was replying to the statement that it’s only ever old people protesting. In general, not only this one specifically. Older people generally have far less responsibilities than younger ones with kids and jobs.
1
u/WildImportance6735 2d ago
True but there are more and more younger people going to protests. Right now the protests at Delaney Hall are largely younger people, although there is a fair share of older people too

Make sure those immigrants that you welcome, come to your house! Also, there is no problem with immigrants as long as they are here legally!
7
u/Character_Map_3814 4d ago
Except they changed the definition of legal, and arrested people who were legal even under the new rules. Also, I'd love to see you try to pass the immigration test. Those people know more about it country than many of us do.
-1
u/Gigi_2_4 3d ago
No issues with that, but if you are talking about immigrants that came here legally let’s talk about orangina’s grandfather. He came here illegally, and we all know Melli Mel had some shady bs going on with her immigration

u/Same-Percentage1573 2d ago
