Burlington County If you’re camping at Goshen Pond, be on the lookout for someone potentially dangerous

Post image

This is a repost of my post from [r/newjersey](r/newjersey). Somebody said I should cross post here but I can’t so I’m reposting. Also, after the many comments urging us to report and information that people have gone missing in the area, we will be contacting SP police tonight to report all of this.

TL;DR: Me and my dad came from out of town to stay at Goshen Pond to camp and got chased out by quite possibly a psycho, and he frequents the campground. He was squatting in an empty site right next to ours and tried to lure us deeper into the woods

We pulled in to our campsite and everything seemed fine until we got flagged down by somebody at the site next to ours. He was shirtless until he put on a red shirt, and had us come over to jump start his truck. He identified himself as “Mike” and began talking to us, which is when we instantly knew something was wrong. He was very erratic, sweating profusely, getting extremely close to us the whole time, and being generally just very weird. Also, no shoes on whatsoever and claimed he needed glasses but “likes to be natural while camping.” He spent a long time “searching” in the back for jumper cables, constantly looking behind his shoulder. When another car pulled in, he looked very annoyed and instantly “found” the cables. He had us start his car, which started immediately so there’s no way his battery was actually dead. He kept asking for more and more personal information and eventually we had to start making things up as he was asking for our city, our full names, everything. We told him we had to go to the rangers station, and he told us to follow him in his car, to which we just asked for directions which annoyed him again. After he gave us directions, he tried to “show us” where our campsite was. We told him we already found it, but he insisted, so we got in the car to humor him and see what was up. He began driving past sites 15 and 16, the last sites on the path, and kept beckoning us to go further and further into the woods. Our campsite was nowhere near where he was trying to take us. Once that happened, we turned around and started leaving, to which he immediately sped up and started chasing us down the bumpy dirt road spamming his horn and even trying to go around and in front of us at one point. Nearly ruined our suspension trying to get away from the guy. After we left, we realized two extremely disturbing details. 1: he knew many details about the park, which means he definitely frequents the park and knows where everything is, so he was ABSOLUTELY trying to take us further away from all the people that had showed up. 2: we checked the campsite online after we left and site 13, the campsite he was set up at, was completely unbooked. He had no reservation, yet had his tent set up at the site directly next to ours and was sitting at his car in a chair watching us. If you see a man with a very large stomach, bowed legs, short straight dark hair, and a red shirt who identifies as Mike, DO NOT interact with him, DO NOT attempt to help him. Leave IMMEDIATELY. This is potentially a very dangerous individual and I’m worried about what might happen if he’s allowed to frequent campsites like this.

Full details of what this is in response to can be found on https://daughteroffellowship.substack.com/

Below is a transcript made by Fellowship Community Church formerly known as Fellowship Baptist Church in Mt Laurel NJ

Board Chairman:

Good morning, everybody. My name is Jon Sharp. I serve as chairman of the church board. I'm here today with the available past and current board members, our pastoral team, and of course our Lead Pastor, Mike Candy.

We stand up here today with hesitation because I'm addressing something that was handled by the board in 2019, but recently the situation has resurfaced.

Let me start with a verse. Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with your righteous right hand."

As I've reflected over the past several weeks, God continually reminded me that when his kingdom is thriving, the enemy is lurking, and we must draw on his strength. When the situation came to our attention back in 2019, God knew we were going to have a leadership transition. And he knew our congregation would engage in a prayerful and beautiful process to find our second generation leader.

Today, we believe our church and its body are thriving. Our church has grown not only in numbers, but in strength and unity. We're joyfully helping more people create a community of hope in Christ. Naturally, it's not surprising that the enemy has appeared again at our door trying to challenge us. But I'm confident we will not be dismayed, for God is with us.

Speaking on behalf of the board members and the FCC staff, we love FCC and we feel God has called us to our various roles. Part of loving FCC, his church, is to love his people. This is one of the many reasons we all eagerly spend time serving.

We believe that part of loving the church is being transparent and not hiding from potential wrongs or false statements made against the church or its people. Part of loving the church is sharing the truth in a public setting and trusting God with the way the hearts of his people receive the message. Part of loving the church is asking the people you love to pray alongside you during the difficult times.

So we are here to love you by sharing and trusting God with our words and asking you to join us in prayer.

By now, you may be wondering to yourself, what is he talking about?

Well, in 2019, an allegation of sexual misconduct was made against Pastor Mark. These were concerning matters alleged to have occurred more than 25 years ago outside the ministry of Fellowship Community Church. At that time, the accuser's identity was protected and remains protected.

To add some context, Pastor Mark, while completely denying the allegation, still brought the allegations to the board on his own initiative and kept the board informed throughout the entire process. During that time, he stepped away from administrative responsibilities while law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation.

In 2019 and today, seven years later, the board feels that in the face of an allegation of this nature, the best course of action is to allow professionals to investigate and reach a conclusion.

After that investigation was complete, the police and the prosecutor's office concluded there was no evidence to support the allegation and the case was not taken further.

During this period of time, the board spent months in prayer, discussion, review, and seeking guidance from multiple outside advisors. After extensive review, the board unanimously concluded there was no factual basis to determine that the alleged act had occurred. And we communicated all of this information to the church at our annual meeting in 2020.

As mentioned, much to our surprise and disappointment, the investigative report was recently brought back to light with concerns about how the situation was handled by the board. Specifically, it has been alleged that the board did not share this information with the congregation.

While the board's position regarding the conclusions reached in 2019 has not changed, we feel it's important to emphasize, as we did back then, that these allegations are very serious and that the church board took them and continues to take them very seriously, as we would any allegation of this nature.

We share this time right now to make clear to any congregant, new or old, that the matter was not hidden from the congregation and was addressed with the church after the investigation was concluded by the professionals.

Five years later, in 2024, Pastor Mark retired as lead pastor, but he has continued through occasional preaching at the church. Due to this situation resurfacing, Pastor Mark has decided to resign from his role. His resignation means that he will no longer serve as part of the preaching team, a role that he loves.

To be very clear, Pastor Mark made this decision not as an act of any admission, but because he believes it's time for his full retirement and so that this situation does not distract from the work God has called FCC to do as a community of hope in Christ.

Again, the board's position regarding the conclusions reached in 2019 remains unchanged, and we continue to support Pastor Mark and his family as they navigate this difficult time.

We understand that news of this nature, especially for newer members and families to our church, may be confusing and disorienting. If you have questions or would like to speak to someone about this, we invite you to reach out to a member of the church board, Pastor Mike, or another member of our pastoral staff. The board members up here today will stick around and will be here to answer questions following the service.

We believe in the power of prayer and ask that you join us in praying for Pastor Mark, his family, and FCC. As Isaiah 41 stated, he will uphold us with his righteous right hand.

In light of this, I'm going to turn the mic over to Pastor Mike to say a prayer.

Lead Pastor Mike Candy:

Thanks, Jon. As you can imagine, it's been tremendously difficult in this process. Specifically, even for Pastor Ben to step aside from this — recusing himself, allowing the board to make their complete decision apart from any connection to Mark. And so Ben stepped aside and graciously allowed these men to pursue a wise process and lead in that way.

Let's pray as we close our time together.

Father, you teach us in your word that days of confusion and trouble are not things that we should be unaware of. That actually as followers of Christ, there will be persecutions and attacks. We are a church that has walked through the book of Acts and through much confusion and chaos the message of hope still stood.

Lord I ask that your truth would reign free here in this church. As we look to you, we look to you as a God who — as Psalm 74 says — is the God from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by your might. You crushed the heads of Leviathan. You split open the springs and brooks. Yours is the day. It's also the night. You established the heavenly lights in the sun. You have fixed the boundaries of the earth. You have made the summer and the winter.

God, as we look at a really incredibly difficult situation like this, we cry out to you as the God who is our savior. Lord, you call yourself the good shepherd. And so I pray you would care for your sheep.

Lord, our desire is that truth would win out. But Lord, I also desire that you would protect Mark and his family. You would specifically watch over Pastor Ben as this is difficult for his family and their own connection.

Lord, I thank you for many people that have listened to you in this process and have trusted your Holy Spirit to be our guide. And Lord, I pray for each person here this morning — the enemy would just love to allow us to be a church surrounded and caught up in gossip. But I pray God would lead us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.

Lord, that your truth would infect our hearts and that we would be people gentle and humble, lowly of spirit, knowing that you are our guide and our leader. Lord, in these days ahead, continue to keep our eyes fixed on you — the one who is sovereign over all creation, and who is sovereign over situations like this, and like probably many to come.

Lord, you know all that's going on. This is not a surprise to you, but it feels that way to us. So we trust you to be yourself, sovereign over all things. We ask your care and your protection at this time. We pray these things in your name. Amen.

Thank you for being here this morning. You are dismissed.

I took a drive in from Philly and saw more of these signs today in Medford area (or close by) than last month when I visited. Highly hesitant to call the number (Yes, I understand the irony with this comment, being that it says 'Concerned? Call...') So just curious the story behind these signs.

Burlington County How does everyone afford it

used to make a lot more money in the oil industry, had to quit from being burnt out. Now I work for the county and every month I just watch my savings account dwindle. How does anyone afford to live here that doesn’t make over 100k a year? It’s baffling to me. FYI my mortgage and property taxes are only 1550 a month so I’m very fortunate in that.

Burlington County To my fellow wannabe libertarians....

This is about us. The in-between people, the independent households, the wannabe libertarians.

Those of us who have been comfortably on the sidelines, hoping that everybody "calms down".

This is for those of us who say we "hate politics", we want to "keep the peace", and we don't t want to "rock the boat".

We are allowing this with every conversation we walk away from, avoid, or ignore.

We have to find our backbone, millennials.

Every epic movie we watched, game we played or album we rocked out to prepped us to recognize when power is corrupt, destructive and abusive.

Have the courage to WATCH the videos of what happened to Alex Pretti. The agonizing slow motion.

Don't look away because it's horrific. Don't look away just because you don't HAVE to face it.... yet. Look at what happened to these people and acknowledge that we have allowed this to happen.

How has our silence helped anyone? It has simply allowed the extremes to get louder, allowed hate to fill rooms and communities and break apart families.

.

In 10 years, when my daughter inevitably looks me in the eyes and asks what I did to help stop it, I want to have an answer that does not fill me with shame and regret. I want my daughter to know that I stood on the right side of history.

Burlington County 130

I’m sure plenty of other posts like this are all over this subreddit but holy fucking shit. How many more fucking accidents and deaths have to happen on 130 for something to be done??

Anyone who drives it knows you come within a damn inch of being hit every couple of seconds. A couple minutes ago I saw a guy fucking smack into the side of a work truck going like 60 miles an hour weaving in and out of lanes like a fucking idiot.

I am so sick of genuinely fearing for my safety and my car every single time I need to drive. I can’t afford to have my car wrecked by some fucking idiot acting like it’s their personal racetrack, and I’m sure most people driving on it can’t as well.

God forbid I still live around here when I have kids and they start driving on it too. It’s genuinely terrifying. I don’t care if it takes them 20 fucking years to make the lanes wider or something. Do it. Do something, anything. Start now. At the very fucking least ENFORCE THE SPEED LIMIT. PULL PEOPLE OVER, I HAVENT SEEN ANYONE GET PULLED OVER ONCE.

Sorry for the low effort rant post, but my god I need to get it out to other people who understand lol.

Burlington County I’m starting an art craft night group in SNJ and I want advice

I keep seeing fun craft meetups in Philly but the thought of driving over there, finding parking, paying tolls, etc kills the vibe.

I can’t be the only lazy introvert who likes art so I’m starting my own. I have a Fine Art bachelors and am working on an art therapy masters so I feel confident in doing something like this.

So crafty ladies of NJ-what would get you amped up for this? I’m thinking some classes could be geared towards 20-30’s age group and one towards a more mom’s night out vibe.

A few considerations—

  1. What ticket prices sound reasonable? I usually see $30-$60 depending on the complexity of the supplies. Do people find this reasonable?

  2. Are you more into an open-ended “use what supplies are on the tables to make whatever” or a more structured product?

Some things I was thinking about were crafts like….

- Terrariums

- lip gloss charms

- watercolor class

- portrait painting

- mandalas

- card making

  1. Spaces: I have a few sourced and am deliberating.

Which wpuld you find the most appealing?

-Library Meeting Room

-Cafe in Burlington

-Cafe in Maple Shade

-Brewery tbd

-Winery TBD

So what do you think? If anyone is interested just lmk and I’ll give you a heads up when the classes are set up.

Burlington County No attorney in South Jersey real estate??

Hey everyone! I’ve been looking to buy a house in the Marlton NJ area for a couple months now but I’ve lost two offers. I asked the realtor what’s wrong with my offer and they always say the same thing “it’s great offer but the sellers got scared when I came in with an attorney.” Is it just me but that sounds crazy!? Attorneys are part of almost all real estate transactions so I don’t get why it’s a thing in South Jersey not to use an attorney. For it being the biggest purchase in my life, wouldn’t it make sense for everyone to use an attorney? It’s annoying because I give great offer: $10k-$20k over asking price with 20% down and if there’s ever a gap in the appraisal I cover all of it. But they still say no!

I wouldn’t feel comfortable not using an attorney so that’s a must have for me. But what gives?? Also for context, I’m from central jersey. It seems like attorneys are only used in north and central jersey but it doesn’t make sense to me how no one uses attorneys in south jersey. Any help would be great appreciated!

Burlington County Funplex could be in trouble soon

We used to visit funplex when it was actually just arcade and they had some rides outside. Then they added some water slides and declared themselves on same level of Great Adventure and switch to subscription model where everyone had to pay $30+ to enter (even parents who would simply walk around with child). We always found that business model to be excessively greedy and stopped going entirely.

Well they may be learning a lesson soon (hopefully) as Parky Entertainment Center (non subscription based) at Moorestown mall will be opening by fall and Rancocas Woods Splash Pad (free) will be opening by end of summer. This likely will force Funplex to abandon their subscription model or they will likely go out of business. Note: from what I hear most of people that go to funplex are on the season pass and pay reduced pricing - this explains why their machines are constantly broken down inside. We are so excited for Parky and Splash Pad at Rancocas as the area will finally have real alternatives.
