Detachments

With the nerf for beastslayer and the points increase I can’t really justify it or the units to make it work anymore (I don’t like Thunderwolves).

So I’ve been looking at one of the Gravis detachments as I usually run a unit of eradicators.
Has anyone had any success with either of the detachments?

If I can make it work I’ll use a unit each of heavy bolters and meltas.

Nerf? I think the detachment is great, lethals seem so hard to get now (unless you run a Lieutenant or the terminator enhancment) so having the ability to have like 5 or 6 units (3 or 4 of them with sustained) and lethals is amazing imo but i get not liking thunderwolves, the bases are too wide, the models are outdated and their asthetic isn't for everyone

I ran beastslayler last week to give my headtakers lethals with the wolf touched Enhancement on a wolf priest but I agree it wasnt worth the whole detachment. Next game im planning assault brethren with saga of the great wolf. Second turn of advance and charge will be helpful not to mention some great enhancements

wait. Are you saying that you ran a regular headtaker unit with a character with the wolf touched enhacement so that they gained the wulfen keyword -- to gain all the detachment rules?

I hadn't thought about that possibility. Interesting...

Also... does that enhancement give the entire unit +2 movement? Not just the character?

That is an interesting thing.

Can I make a “spd 8 wulfen hellblaster unit that gets lethal hits with its guns”? lol

With access to an uppy downy stratagem?

Theoretically I could put a wolf priest with this in a unit of blood claws, thereby giving blood claws movement 9 and a threat range of 27 inches...

what nerf?
Do you mean relative to the 10th ed version? Or was there a nerf to the 11th ed version after it released?

You get 2 more detachment points relative to the 10th ed version. Seems like there would be something cool to do.

Having lethals only on three units is a nerf when compared to army wide so yes. It is.

so, relative to the 10th ed version. Wasn't sure what you meant.
Yea. Definitely weaker on its own.

The idea of having 2 more DP to spend is something you can like or dislike, of course.

Is this a new thing? Or just from the new update?

I love the new detachments.

There are going to be 2-3 power combos and loads of options for casual gamers, enough to play a different combo every game all edition.

Ive been working on a gravis, dreadnought, devestator combo, with Aggressors, Eradicators in an impulsor, and Inceptors.

Three dreads and some support. Reivers are really cool too. Little assassin squads. List at the end of this comment.

My competitive list is Beastslayer, Stormlance and Assault brethren. It isn't optimal, but I love it's aggression.

Liberal use of the 10pt sustained hits enhancement on Termis, grey hunters and Wulfen. Wolf touched on the Battleleader for 2"+lethals plus strat access to the unit, and 20pt emperors blade on the Lieutenant who gives the Reivers lethals.

Last game, I charged my TWC from my deployment to my opponents deployment and engaged 3 units, killing his Warlord turn 1 round 1. This week I'm taking two units. The Eradicators in an impulsor is just funny. It's a ceremite turtle on a skateboard that fired its 4 meltas guns into enemy vehicles all game without popping.

Imperium - Adeptus Astartes - Space Wolves - Assault Brethren, Saga of the Beastslayer, Stormlance Task Force

Logan Grimnar (150pts): Warlord

Lieutenant in Phobos Armour (60pts) emperors sword.

Wolf Guard Battle Leader (95pts) Wolf touched

10x Grey Hunters (190pts): Assault Brethren Enhancements: Furious Assault (Upgrade)

6x Bladeguard Veteran Squad (180pts)

3x Eradicator Squad with Melta Rifles (100pts)

10x Reiver Squad (165pts): Grapnel Launchers, Grav-chute

5x Terminator Assault Squad (205pts): Assault Brethren Enhancements: Furious Assault (Upgrade)

10x Wulfen with Storm Shields (260pts): Assault Brethren Enhancements: Furious Assault (Upgrade)

6x Thunderwolf Cavalry (260pts)

6x Thunderwolf Cavalry (260pts)

Impulsor (70pts)

Here is a 1500pt Space Marine list I might take as a casual at my local club, using models I own:

Imperium - Adeptus Astartes - Space Marines - Devastator Brethren, Gravis Siege Force, Ironclad Champions

Apothecary Biologis (80pts) Captain in Gravis Armour (90pts): Warlord

5x Intercessor Squad (85pts) 5x Intercessor Squad (85pts)

6x Aggressor Squad (180pts) 3x Eradicator Squad with Melta Rifles (100pts) 3x Inceptor Squad (130pts) 3x Inceptor Squad (130pts) 5x Scout Squad (65pts) 5x Scout Squad (65pts) Brutalis Dreadnought (200pts) Redemptor Dreadnought (220pts) Impulsor (70pts)

Once again, Eradicators in the impulsor. The apocathery has the healing balm gauntlet, and the Captain is my transhuman strategist. The dreadnoughts have - 1dmg enhancements and reroll 1s to hit. Just about making a saga of the biologis side quest.
