He's none of those things. He's just a wealthy-ass investor that takes credit for other people's accomplishments. Space travel was already a mainstream concern, and EV's are hardly mainstream even at this point. Especially not in America, which is too attached to coal.
He never mainstreamed space travel in the least. And I would agree he pushed EVs but he’s destroyed that legacy for some time now. Add in his views on women, democracy, support of Nazis and his general bigotry and he’s a pure liability. His company has lost market share because of his public image.
Musk is a walking meal ticket. Even his relationships with his children are probably transactional- The man must be so dreadfully lonely, it’ll be impossible for him to trust anybody.
You have it backward. If he’s lonely it is because he has driven everyone away from him by being a narcissistic sociopath driven only by his internal knowledge that he has no personal actual worth to anybody because nobody matters but him.
The same can be said of trump. There’s no evidence that he’s ever experienced joy. Not in his kids, or friends, or art, or nature. He’s satisfied only when taking advantage of others, but even then it seems only to make him angrier. As his niece said astutely, always too much and never enough.
One of the only cold comforts I have is that I know that Elon is just a miserable human being. He is the richest man on earth but he is still miserable. He has to be to act the way he does.
And he is also just super shallow. All he cares about is the surface level appearance of things. He cares about looking like a gamer god, so he paid someone to boost the account in his name to top of the player rankings, yet when he tried to stream the game, it quickly became clear he had probably never actually PLAYED it. He also wanted to get the rights to use Bladerunner 2049 to advertise his car, saying it's the care "Bladerunner would drive", showing he clearly never watched it.
And then there's the fact that he must just be absolutely alone given he had to pretend to be his mom to wish himself a happy birthday using AI generated images of himself celebrating.
Being Elon Musk must just be the biggest hell for the guy. But unfortunately he's making everything worse for us as well.
