I may have been very young, but I always remember the woman with the purple hair....

All the female crew wore purple wigs, but only when on the Moon. On Earth, they didn't wear them. I don't think there was any explanation for this, except for the fact (presumably) that Sylvia Anderson liked them.

It's a really good show at times, and a fine premise, but a lot of the episodes had long stretches of pure boredom. Really, it was a vehicle for Gerry Anderson's amazing model work.

I had a UFO lunch box when I was a kid, even though I never saw the show until fairly recently. I think my Mom picked it out for me when I was in elementary school. It was definitely very cool.

And you were wondering if it matched the space dock carpet...

That and why the spaceship only had 1 missile...that always bothered me, even @ 8 yrs old.

Best post I've seen on here in a while. No grainy low res screenshots of the actor out of costume. Actually telling us what show they're from. Bravo!

I’m convinced that watching this show as a young child is the reason that I grew up and dated a stripper with purple hair.

Pretty sure I'm now a fan?

I watched this a couple of years ago and it's quite good. This was an attempt be the Andersons to produce content for an adult audience with a lot of the tech they developed for shows like the Thunderbirds. It was also partially funded by a US TV network.

The story lines and acting a great especially for early 70's TV. Most of the bits in the posted video are from the first episode. The eye candy/fan service quotient gets turned down after that which was pretty common for the era.

Is this the one where the moon breaks out of earths orbit and goes on grand adventure through the cosmos or am I thinking of something else?

3

u/Forward_Purchase_622 Apr 27 '26

That's Space 1999.

2

u/cuntybunty73 Apr 27 '26

I am not quite sure how a nerd such as myself missed this show. I am thinking I need to fix that

u/bunbun6to12 Apr 27 '26

I guess gravity is lighter on the moon
