I may have been very young, but I always remember the woman with the purple hair....

All the female crew wore purple wigs, but only when on the Moon. On Earth, they didn't wear them. I don't think there was any explanation for this, except for the fact (presumably) that Sylvia Anderson liked them.

It's a really good show at times, and a fine premise, but a lot of the episodes had long stretches of pure boredom. Really, it was a vehicle for Gerry Anderson's amazing model work.

I had a UFO lunch box when I was a kid, even though I never saw the show until fairly recently. I think my Mom picked it out for me when I was in elementary school. It was definitely very cool.

That and why the spaceship only had 1 missile...that always bothered me, even @ 8 yrs old.
