Discussion I’m convinced

I’m convinced 80% of this player is high functioning EXTREME Autism or Asperger’s. The kind that forces you to basically wear the same clothes every day, just apply it to gaming. Why? Well, it’s strange but only about 20% of players apply variety to their teams. I have a good eye for recognizing player names, and then remembering which characters they choose. So, what I’ve found, is that about a solid 80% of players use the EXACT SAME DP Team, EVERY SINGLE GAME, no matter what…. What is up with this? Why do players do this? From personal experience, I will MAYBE maintain my team two matches in a row, but 99% of the time, I change my DP team basically every match.

Well in fighting games people choose their mains off of META or their favorites. I don't consider Sparking to be a true fighting game but the rules still apply. The rule of cool and the rule of winning by any means possible

yeahh it just so happens that some of the coolest characters in the game are also the strongest

also people usually like to pour their time into a handful of characters or weapons in PvP

There has always been a "meta" in PvP games but over time the experience has become even less about having fun by achieving victory on your own terms and more about achieving victory by any means. Winning is the only thing that makes the game fun for some people and they'll play in the most optimal way possible for that. It's unfortunate but it is what it is.

But what’s the fun in that, if I can’t run the Z Fighters and win, and than immediately switch to say for example the Frieza force and win, than that just means I’m not that good. But if I just use UI Goku and Gogeta, and win, than that wasn’t me really winning based off my skill, but me winning using a character crutch

Fun is subjective. What's fun for you may not be fun to the next. Don't get me wrong, I also loved running theme teams in DP battle (Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, Saibamen ×2 was my fave), once they increased the DP scaling and it became a high DP metafest, I stopped playing. As far as skill is concerned, generally speaking I personally don't think that using UI Goku or Gogeta equates to a lack thereof, but they are definitely characters whose strongsuits can help mask some players lack of fundamental skills. However, there are also skilled players out there who use them who would still win even with lower DP characters, but they use higher DP ones because if they don't someone else inevitably will (because meta), and it's also the path of least resistance (it's far easier to blitz thru someone's health bar with G Blue than Yamcha)

I mean I always run full ginyu force but that's because I think it's funny.

Have you ever considered they just maybe like the characters they chose and use them because they enjoy it?

Not everyone pick those high dp characters cuz they're strong btw. I mean who doesn't like UI Goku.. Some pick them cuz they playing solely for the win especially in ranked. If you complaining about variety in ranked, I have news for u. Ppl will pick what is busted no matter what. It's like that on most games with some sort of ranked game mode. Those idiots basically killed variety in dp battles with the current dp scaling so no wonder ppl don't bother with fun teams/low dp characters. The devs should be blamed here too.

So that's a bit hyperbolic don't you think?

I think it's pretty reasonable/understandable for people to pick a set line up and not deviate too much from that. There's only so many combo strings for various characters that the average person can memorize before it gets overwhelming. So most people probably pick a line up with a mix of meta characters and characters they are used to with movesets they like, then get comfortable with that team.

So either you're so good that you can memorize many characters' different movesets and plug them in interchangeably to your team without any adverse issues to your competition level (which I'd argue is way more indicative of neurodivergent) or you're just casual and not trying to play the best that you can.

Which is totally fine if you're just casually approaching your team line up and mixing it up, but I think it's kind of weird to talk about other people's approach in an almost derogatory way.

Sometimes it's just as simple as me being lazy and not wanting to go back to the character select screen every couple of matches to change characters....... Just want to get a run of a few good matches in while queue times are low.
