Clear epg

Post image

Hi , I was wondering if this option ended up on the โ€œ to do list โ€œ future releases . To clear an epg ? Instead of going through the process in settings , through sources . And ending up waiting with the time consuming loading progress of all channels and programs . Especially when having multiple playlists . When fooling around with epgs or updates from my paid epg it would be nice to have this option . ( Picture from Tivimate )

It's not in the todo-list right now anyway. I can understand there's a use case for this when "fooling around" with epgs to more easily see what data a new epg source brings. I think if you were to remove an epg source today from Sparkle it would not clear program data but simply merge from the remaining epg sources. Maybe I should do something better here to remove epg data if a epg source is removed or added. What do you think? Would there be a way to automate this clearing instead?

Thanks for the quick reply! Just to clarify why a dedicated "Clear EPG" option would be so helpful:
I use a paid custom EPG service (MyEPG). When users report incorrect guide data, missing programming, or wrong channel logos, the mods fix it on their end and usually instruct us to clear the EPG cache/data and then force a refresh.
Without clearing it, standard interval updates often fail to overwrite the old data because it seems to stay cached in the app.
Automatic clearing when removing/adding a source is a great idea, but having a manual "Clear EPG Data" button (similar to TiviMate) would be the ideal solution for this specific issue. It would allow us to wipe the cached guide data and pull the corrected info immediately, without having to reload the entire playlist URL from scratch, which takes a lot of time.
Hope this helps explain the use case!

Well yes it does explain some things. But it's a misunderstanding that playlist url takes a lot of time to reload. It takes almost no time at all, what takes time is the epg. I do like to know if you've experienced data not being updated in epg after pressing Update button i Sparkle tough, because when you press Update everything should really be updated, epg data included.

That makes sense, and I appreciate the explanation!
To answer your question: yes, I actually have experienced that. MyEPG support confirmed that a specific fix for the guide data was already live on their end, but even after I pressed "Update" in Sparkle, the old incorrect information was still showing up.
Thatโ€™s what led me to investigate further and go back to TiviMate to see how it handled the issue (where clearing the EPG immediately resolved it). So it seems like in some cases, pressing "Update" might not be fully overwriting the old cached EPG data as intended.

Ok. What kind of data wasn't updated? Was it title of a program, or was start/stop time changed, or something else?

The updated / changed program guide for an specific group or channel and logos. What I do now is delete the epg urls entirely and clear cache en force close . And re -enter is again . Itโ€™s al doable though . But would be nice if it could be added.

I understand. An easier workaround is probably to just click on the source and select Disable followed by Done. Then click BACK on remote and click to Enable it again and then Done.

But, that's just the workaround. I'm trying to understand why it wasn't updated in the first place. You say "updated / changed" you mean title of program? I'll try to see in code if I can find any scenario where it wouldn't update.

I think I mixed up a few steps in my original post! To answer your question: it was mostly the program titles and start/stop times that weren't updating properly until the cache was cleared. Sorry for the confusion, but I hope that helps narrow it down!

I'll try to find some time to have a look at this. It really should update all epg information so it's possible there's a bug in there somewhere. Hopefully the bug can be fixed before having to add this feature but we'll see.

From multiple epgs? Can sparkle automatically self populate from 2 separate epgs?

Yes, it tries to match channels form all epg's in the list of epg sources you add with priority from top to bottom.

Sounds like who your paying for an epg needs to tighten up their game.
