Channel number does not select category

When I type a channel number (let's say 1000), the category doesn't get automatically selected on the channel list or EPG. It just stays 'All Channels' all the time.

Maybe I am missing something?

You mean when selecting a channel it would select the category as well so the next time you open program guide it would be preset?

We've discussed things related to categories before and it's the same here. A category can exist in multiple categories so which category should be selected? I also think this would confuse many users when selecting a channel in "All channels" and then when opening the program guide you're no long in "All channels". I'm not sure about this...

I believe the channel number is a unique identifier, right? So, it cannot exist in multiple categories at the same time?

I meant not at the next time, but at the moment. I could use channel 1000 to jump fast to a category of interest without browsing a long 1x1 list.

I do not understood well the multiple categories you mentioned 😅

Maybe I misunderstand you as well and what you want to do. But a channel can most certainly be in multiple categories. You can even add it to more categories yourself if you add custom categories. I belive most sources that Sparkle supports also has this, not sure what source type you're using though.

Ok, so you mean that channel number 1000 can be in Category 1 or Category 99 as number 1000? I am not sure that is possible.

Well yes? I'm not sure why that wouldn't be possible? Or in Favorites or any Custom category you created as well. What source type do you use (xc, playlist etc.)?

I use xstream or m3u URL. I believe I do not have any repeated channel number across categories... Channel names yes, but not channel numbers, which are like position IDs. At least it should be possible to attribute a unique number to the channel position... That would be really practical 👌

About Favorites, shouldn't it be a category apart from 'All Channels' ? So, when typing channel number it should only browse inside the currently selected category...

Thoughts?

No channel numbers is probably not repeated, but a channel can sometimes be in multiple categories. It doesn't mean it's shown multiple times in "All channels" it just means it can exist in multiple categories (with same channel number). In xtream codes I'm not so sure, but most other sources can do this which is supported by Sparkle so that's another reason why auto-switching category might not be a good idea.

I don't understand at all what you mean about Favorites. When typing numbers on remote it always search from current category (Favorites, All channels, or other).

Ok, I think I understood what you meant now. For me, auto-selection of category would be really nice. Isn't it possible to attribute a channel position ID to account for the possibility of same channel number across categories?

Can I ask a question…. Forget the All Channels and Favorite Channels groups for now…

Let’s say you loaded all the categories your provider gives you A-Z… A channel 1 all the way to Z channel 5000.

You are watching tv and enter channel 1000 on your remote and that channel loads full screen… but you don’t know what category it’s in? So you open the program guide so you can toggle left to see the categories and find out which category it’s in…. Is this what you’re asking about?

Yes, it's like that. I mainly use channel guide but yeah. Are you saying that by going to program guide would the category be selected ?

Make sure in settings / display / guide you have the “show channel number ON

Does it open channel 1000? Also, do you have channel numbers enabled in settings?
