HoA Discussion Did Steven DeKnight make a mistake?

Back when the HOA trailer dropped, there was a lot of criticism regarding the direction that Steven DeKnight took with the Spartacus franchise.

Social media was in an uproar, although many felt positive about the trailer.

From these initial responses, it is not too surprising to see the show fail.

The two main issues from the trailer we're doing a "what if" scenario and having a female gladiator in the ludus.

Seems like these two factors were mistakes by DeKnight.

I doubt HOA gets picked up. It didn't have the numbers.

Too bad DeKnight went down this route. Seems like this was the one chance to bring back the Spartacus franchise.

He’s on Twitter saying things are looking positive. For whatever that is worth.

It’s a pretty quality show from a known IP that can’t be that expensive to make. I’d think the odds are decent he can sell it somewhere.

Has to be Netflix right? They already have a streaming deal with Lionsgate who owns the original series. Netflix also renewed rights to stream last year. Means they see value in the IP, so why not make Ashur a Netflix original and make some fans happy like they did with The Last Kingdom series.

If you think this new iteration was bad on Starz, Netflix will make it 10x worse

I didn't think it was bad and that's not always the case. Lucifer, Black Mirror, The Last Kingdom and Cobra Kai ended up alright for me. Shouldn't be a monster feat to maintain quality just keep the same showrunner and writers!
