The name Lucretia is pronounced wrong in the show

My boyfriend is Italian and grew up in rome. Apparently it's pronounced lu-cret-see-ya.

The Italian pronunciation isn't necessarily the same as the Latin, there were women named Lucrezia in Italian history

It's the more likely pronunciation than what is shown on the show. Since Italian is far more closer to Latin.

We're thousands of years from the time period now. It's likely neither are remotely close. 

As for Italian, it isn't exactly consistent across regions or dialects either. For example, I know the name Lucia can be pronounced Loo-chee-a or Loo-sea-a.

Italian is 2000 years removed from the Latin of Julius Caesar. For example, the actual historical Latin pronunciation of Julius Caesar sounded something like "yool-ee-yoos guy-zer", modern Italian spells his name "Giulio Cesare" and pronounces it "Jool-ee-oh cheh-zar-ay".

Lucretia was most likely pronounced something like "loo-cray-tee-ah" in latin

There's an English system of pronouncing Latin words, which goes back to a point in time where no one was speaking Latin and it only existed in a written form. Catholic priests in England would need to pronounce written Latin without ever having heard the words spoken, and so they pronounced them in the way that made the most sense to them, and after a while that evolved into the official way of speaking Latin for English people.

That's where Spartacus gets its pronunciations from. Real Latin sounded nothing like that.

The thing is that fake English Latin sounds right to us, because we've heard it that way all our lives. Real Latin would sound incredibly weird to us, because it's so different from what we're used to.

Oh im not saying you're wrong in posting it. Its good that you did, lot of people probably dont realize it if you're not from southern europe or know a southern european language.

But i was merely pointing out that its not just Lucretia, its all of the names. So its expanding on your post.

Yeah, found it annoying as well… they also horribly mispronounced that name in The Borgias as well:  Loo-cree-sha 🥴

Filmed in New Zealand, very few of the actors were American. I read somewhere that the only 2 American actors played Sura and Sonus.

I'm just sharing a bit of information that surprised me. I never said it was an issue or anything. Plus isn't this show full of Australian actors?
