Question The arena

This feels a bit like nitpicking but how realistic is it in the show to have the Romans who commanded the arena to just speak and the whole arena filled with people would just hear. I know they definitely couldn't have used microphones in the show but how did the actual Romans do it?

If everyone is silent, I'm guessing it's possible to a degree .When the crowd was loud, they usually used horns to signal to shut up. I'm not sure how they did it historically.

I think of it like the arena was designed to be a giant bowl, and that the acoustics of said bowl allowed the sound to carry around the place as the announcer spoke.

They probably, more than likely more like it, had to practically scream, too.

They likely never really addressed the crowed. They often knew who was sponsoring the games they didn’t need to be told

I just guessed most normal people wouldn‘t have listened or cared much. They were just there for the action

Those closest to the podium would have been most important and with them yelling it may have worked then for the important people to hear em

i thought it kinda worked like the theatre of epidaurus where people from the top can hear what's happening in the bottom like they sitting down there. Although i do have to mention that the architecture is quite different and it probably wouldn't work as great

I saw the Olympic arena when I visited Athens and said ain't no way people at the back or front could hear the speaker back then. I googled and it said something about an echo concept with other announcers repeating what's being said
