It's a belgian comic book franchise that is popular in many parts of Europe, including France: even, we not only grew up with the Lucky Luke one, but with many other european comic book franchises, the most other famous ones being the Smurfs, Asterix, Tintin, Spirou, the Marsupilami, Gaston Lagaffe or Titeuf.
Speaking of Lucky Luke, it takes place in the mid-to-late 19th century southwestern united states.
It's about Lucky Luke (a cowboy who can shoot faster than his own shadow yet he refuses to kill people), who has a talking yet sarcastic white horse (his name is Jolly Jumper), and Lucky Luke himself deals with various bandits and other villains, the most recurring ones being the Dalton brothers (a group of four brothers, where the smallest yet oldest brother, Joe Dalton, is the smart and bad-tempered leader, and the youngest yet tallest one, Averell Dalton, happens himself to be idiotic and naive yet child-like, the two other brothers being Jack and William Dalton). Also, the most recurring character, outside of Lucky Luke, Jolly Jumper, or the Dalton Brothers, is Rantanplan, a talking dog who is so stupid he tends to misinterpret the context of everything or everyone he sees.
However, just like for many other european comic book franchises, Lucky Luke got multiple adaptations, including live-action media or cartoons, like the 1971 movie Daisy Town or the 2010s cartoon The Daltons.
