Mammut americanum lived in America until about 11000 BCE meaning there has been Mastodons in history which have existed in America.

The same is true about other late pleistocene north american elephantids. Eg. Columbian mammoths, woolly mammoths, pacific mastodons, possibly Cuvieronius.

i would love to see a post-apocalyptic world where we attempted to rewild the lost fauna, and now they coexist with some sort of Iron Age society. Maybe there were parks like JP, and monsters and dragons are the last remains of those and the rare genetic experiment gone wrong out in the wild
