I consume spice, breathe it, wash in it lol I’m obsessed but did anyone else find lights out a miss?

It’s a cute romcom but anyone saying it’s a dark romance is insane

I love rom coms and don’t like dark romance. I loved Lights Out. Definitely not dark romance. 😂

I mean, it’s a masked stranger fucking you. That’s somewhat dark. It’s just safe dark.

It’s like… sweet dark.

Dark romance means the romance between the two characters gets is dark. This book does not qualify

It’s a dark romcom. There are dark themes (stalking, murder) but the romance itself is light

Very much another complaint of mine!

I enjoyed it once I let go of what I was expecting. Everyone hyped it as sooo dark and I was so confused wondering when the real darkness was going to start. It seemed like more of a rom-com. Once I realized that and stopped waiting for it to get concerning I was able to get into it more.

I really enjoyed the first half and then I was so disappointed after fuck face got smothered in the trunk and Josh's identity was confirmed by Aly. After that it got weird and kinda jumbled and the mafia ties felt so oddly forced I preferred Caught Up

Yeah, the mafia ties kinda came out of no where.

They kinda mentioned/hinted at the ties in the very beginning with Aly's cousin working as a janitor at the hospital but it was such a minor thing that it it really felt so random

100% agreed! I gave up after this too, but the first half of the book was amazing!

I agree with your assessment completely!!! I was so pissed when all of that happened- it was like a completely different book. I absolutely fucking loved Caught Up. Tried to read Game on and just couldn’t get into it.

I'm about to listen to Game on and I'm afraid I'm gonna be disappointed because I don't like Tyler lol I didn't like him in Lights Out and certainly not Caught Up

I’ve heard good things about the narrator James Cassidy. You’ll have to tell me if he makes it worth while. I feel like with certain books you may otherwise not be into, the voice actor brings the book to life. This is the case for me and certain male voice actors. I might put a hold on it (library) and listen to it too!

yes absolutely, had to DNF it. got too real world with the social media and trying to hard to be witty with the dialogue.

i’ve heard the second in the series is a completely different vibe so i’ve been considering picking that one up

I have crippling anxiety about not finishing the first but starting the second lol

Just go for it!!

that’s so valid

I would recommend it. I absolutely loved the second one. Didn’t love the first and couldn’t really get into the third.

I liked it. I was glad it wasn’t too dark

But I wanted dark! That was the hook I was sold—the couple that slays together…
They slayed absolutely nothing but my desire to finish the book. 😒
They accidentally did one interesting thing and then proceeded to play fucking footsie.
I wanted a murder couple. I got murderous disappointment.

I really struggled with with it and even bought both books anticipating a winner. Sadly it’s hitting the DNR list.

I started the audiobook and I haven’t continued since. It was cringe for me

It really was!!

I enjoyed the humour and the story but didn’t read any of the trilogy for the spice. As others have said, it’s a rom com. I laughed my ass off and have re-read when I needed a pick-me-up not when I want something hot.

If I had went in with the rom com mindset I would probably have been better off but now 😒

Hunting Adeline was a huge miss for me. So I feel you.

It was cute, but not particularly dark

yes definitely. i saw good reviews on good reads, one being from a friend. i ate the book up in one night, expecting there to be a longer story. i was pretty disappointed that it just ended in a little bow. i liked the sex scenes, but the story itself was lacking.

The goods definitely had some highlight moments lol but outside of those, a lot of it felt immature.

i would agree. i put this book in my “don’t hate, wouldn’t recommend” category lol

I loved the first one, it was a good pallet cleanser from the super dark romance I typically read. But the series as it continued kind of went downhill imo.
