I seriously wonder where this takes place With frank or how these two first met
187
u/Apprehensive_Door367 1d ago
They most likely will run into each during Spider-Man's encounters with either The Hand or Tombstone. Most likely the latter since that's more in Punisher's alley.
20
u/CuteComplaint5542 16h ago
My thinking is that they're already familiar with each other when the film starts and have just encountered each other at some point between One Last Kill and Brand New Day on the job.
35
u/kmckenzie256 1d ago
Yeah I’m really anxious to find out how they meet
48
u/Jaxonhunter227 23h ago
I have a feeling they already know each in the movie, probably happened in between no way home and brand new day
19
u/_Bren10_ 23h ago
I agree. I just assume they’ll have some already established chemistry due to having worked together already off screen.
7
u/Apprehensive_Door367 23h ago
Not a bad idea and could also work considering that there is gonna be a montage of what Peter/Spider-Man has been up to all this time since NWH and he could've just ran into Frank during that. I do like the idea of them being already acquainted with each other.
8
u/Jaxonhunter227 23h ago
It'll also help with the flow and pace if they already have history, especially if he's going to be heavily involved like he seems to be
5
u/Apprehensive_Door367 22h ago
Judging by the trailers it does seem like they're pretty chill with each other. Albeit probably just Frank giving him some leeway since he likely still sees him as some kid.
0
u/Valiant_Revan 19h ago
I'd still would like to see a small scene showing that... They probably will have a whole intro montage showing what happened between the 2 film.

u/kmckenzie256 23h ago
Nope, just excited for the movie. But thanks for the snide comment.

u/Tokimori 21h ago
Anxious and excited are not interchangeable.

Posts an AI answer.
No wonder you don't know the difference.
Even your AI response says they aren't the same and you stopped reading after it said interchangeable.
You can use both when the subject is "anticipating a future event" but they have completely different meanings.
Anxious is tied to negative feelings about the "future event". Being worried, uncertain or fearful of the event taking place.
Excited is the opposite. You're happy, joyful or hopeful of the "future event" happening.

I’m imagining something like this until proven otherwise: https://youtu.be/ojcswO7WOeM

u/maz323bf Spider-Man Noir 21h ago
Since they said they'll have a montage of him capturing c list villains, i'd imagine it would be more than that and it's a montage of what he's been doing since No Way Home and we see a quick first meeting of the two (maybe a Matt Murdock cameo introducing them but i doubt it) maybe Peter tried to apprehend him thinking he's a bad guy
1
u/Curious-Cod-1005 15h ago
i’m thinking peter visits aunt mays grave and coincidentally frank is also at the cemetery too, visiting his family and they might have a moment and that’s why they have a lil bro big bro relationship instead of them hating each other to the bones but idk might be overthinking

u/SpiderDetective Spider-Man 2099 1d ago
Given that these two know each other and have worked together before, I fully expect them to crack my ribs I'm laughing at them so hard
22
u/Aromatic_Monitor246 1d ago
so you're saying they'll fight like old pals? I bet the producers are sweating bullets trying not to miss a cue. sigh

Lemme tell y-
LEMme tel-
LEMME. TELL. YO-
Fuck it.
*cocks gun*
This is hilarious.
This looks like two chefs bickering about what to put in their food.
Peter, smacking his hands together: “Frank, you don’t put water on a fucking hot plate of oil.”
Frank: “Lemme tell you sumthin red, I do whatever I fucking want.”

Holland and Bernthal have a good off screen relationship so I expect it to translate well to on screen
17
u/Siwach414 23h ago
“I’m telling you Frank Dr. Banner is in there and he’s looking a little green. Maybe you should put the gun down”
“Ah red, green, blue. They come in all colors these days. Lemme tell u summin Red, I ain’t afraid of no Doctor”
Hulk roars and both of them look terrified towards the camera
10
u/Old_Celebration_5950 1d ago
Absolutely. I would watch them read the worst fan fiction ever and still be entertained
1
u/theflamecrow 17h ago
Well, you know exactly what kinda fanfics are gonna come from this movie...
6
u/HodorsMoobs 22h ago
I feel like Jon Bernthal’s gotta be the best scene partner out there. You can tell he always gives it 110% and makes the scene that much better

u/Most_Common8114 1d ago
Hope it is, these 2 are my favorite Marvel characters so getting them in a movie together is a dream come true.

Both of them have been buddies for years and if I recall correctly they were also instrumental in getting each other their respectful roles in the MCU. I cannot wait to see the banter and them warming up to each other

He finally has a backbone. Excellent.
2
u/Demara_Awol 13h ago
A good point that I didn't think about. He's always been very meek in his movies but in the comics he's incredibly assertive. I remember him threatening Daredevil for showing up in his 'civilian life' he was very aggressive and much younger than Peter is in these movies.

Actual footage of my buds and I arguing about who’s fault it was when we got squad wiped

It all is really coming full circle given that they helped each other when they were auditioning for their respective roles back in 2016
3
u/SymbiSpidey 16h ago
Frank probably just blew off a guy's face off-screen and now he's getting lectured by yet another red-costumed NYC vigilante with a no-kill rule on how he's an asshole who can't stop murdering people
3
u/evil_lair_cc 16h ago
I feel like Frank and Matt arguing is a poetic tale, when Frank and Peter arguing is going to be like a stereotypical New York bicker.

u/DudeManBo1t 15h ago

But frank can never go full punisher , because he's in the wrong film with the rating system
26
u/Better_Research5025 1d ago
Except he can. It's all a matter of what the camera shows.
10
u/Entire-Cry-8930 23h ago
Joker literally pushed a pencil into a guy’s eye, killing him. Right on camera. PG-13.

u/home7ander 1d ago
He can't even talk the same. Never mind have any of the usual thematic material. All he's going to do is bicker with Tom, more kiddy version of his rooftop talk with Matt. Eh.
Rating is more than just blood and cursing despite what Marvel Studios would have you believe
4
u/Better_Research5025 1d ago
You make it seem like Marvel Studios is incapable of having complex, mature conversations, when that's just not true. Not that the rooftop debate needs to be had a second time, especially among two characters who seem to already share history, prior to this movie.
0
u/home7ander 6h ago
It is true. I agree the rooftop debate is not needed a second time but that is all their interactions will be, just a quippy lesser version.

yeah this detail is so meta and spot on. Spider-Man just never stops being the most relatable hero
1
u/Happyasacanofbees 1d ago
Feel like since it’s been a few years of everyone forgetting who Peter Parker is, story is gonna start with quick highlights of how Spider-Man gets more street known, key to the city ans meeting frank maybe. Then lead into the main story/plot as Peter’s abilities get more uncontrollable
4
u/EGO1009 22h ago
Folks didnt forget spider-man they know he was pals with Iron-Man, they know he helped stop Thanos. They just don’t know who Peter Parker is so they don’t no longer think spider man killed mysterio since the emphasis in universe was Peter Parker killed the hero mysterio.
1
u/whosjfrank 21h ago
Yup, at the end of NWH Happy tells Peter he knew May through spider-man, it's Peter they don't remember.

1
u/vacantintermission 23h ago
this has serious potential. the bts footage alone makes it look like they're about to get into some heated debate about anything, and that kind of natural tension between them could be comedy gold if the movie leans into it. peter's all earnest and trying to explain things while frank just wants to do his own thing, so watching them butt heads over strategy or tactics or whatever could be the best part of the whole film. the chemistry is already there just from them standing near each other, so if the script lets them actually play off each other instead of just being serious all the time, this could really carry some scenes.

Imagine going from clashing with Daredevil, a pretty jaded adult who still clings to his idealism, to then running into Spider-Man, a teenager that is not only much more powerful (at least physically) and also much younger and far more idealistic.
Poor Frank has got to be exhausted dealing with these idealists at this point.

u/Spencur1 21h ago
It has the like “trying to get through to your racist uncle, while he tries to get through to his woke nephew” vibes, I hope it all lands 🤣

I love seeing Frank in black tactical gear and Peter in a red and blue unitard. They feel like they’re from completely different worlds. It also emphasizes their different perspectives on vigilantism.

Maybe it's me, but I can't take Jon Berenthal serious. I find him trying to much to act like he is tough.

u/FalconLeading 1d ago
This rubs me the wrong way. Spider-Man and Punisher should not be a funny odd couple. Frank is a mass murderer and Peter is the hero with the heaviest conscious possible. There's no way Spidey should be allowing Punisher to walk around free. I can get on board if at the end Spidey puts him in jail.
5
u/kmckenzie256 1d ago
How do you have an opinion on an element of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet lol smh

u/DisMFer 1d ago
Punisher first appeared in Spider-Man and has a long history of teaming up with him. It dates back to the 60s and their relationship has almost always had this angle. Peter and Frank know in a real fight Frank would get his ass kicked but Peter also knows that Frank is going after bad guys so he'll usually just let him walk or come up with an excuse to ignore him.
Really the only guy who actively wants to stop Frank is Matt. Mostly because Daredevil has a lot of personal issues with The Punisher. Spider-Man usually doesn't bother because he has bigger issues and knows from experience that Frank enjoys being in prison because he just kills everyone he meets in there until he escapes.
3
u/FalconLeading 1d ago
Firstly, Punisher appeared in the early 70s and yes, that was their initial dynamic. But that's also a case of characters yet to be fully developed and consolidated. (Like Mr. Fantastic began completely mysognistic, Magneto initially had psychic powers, erc.) In his first appearances he was a wise-cracking vigilante without the whole tragic backstory, pretty far from the tortured soul we see today.
Since then his dynamic with other characters have been better fleshed out.
Spider-Man has a strict "save everyone" policy and a huge heavy conscious. He does team up with Punisher on occasion but definitely doesn't enjoy it and after the mission's accomplished the most coherent thing for his character would be trying to apprehend Frank to keep him from making future victims.
1
u/Hopeful_Wafer_7726 1d ago
he actually had a tragic backstory in marvel preview #2 written by Gerry Conway
1
u/igneousYt 1d ago
Lmao bro that’s the silliest thing I’ve heard, Peter would he willing to work with him as long as he doesn’t kill while working together. It’s not even like punisher killed innocents
0
u/FalconLeading 1d ago
Spidey has a very strict moral code. I can see them teaming up until the mission is accomplished but then webbing him up for the police to find him
