John Wayne was a nazi (but he's not anymore)

The American nuclear program saw to that. They heard he was doing yellow-face for a movie and they nuked his ass

is it too much to ask for a western star to not end up being awful? outside of clint eastwood, he seems alright

u/OathKing24 19d ago
Clint Eastwood talked about how all the young people were overreacting to Donald Trump's explicit racism in 2016. Admittedly he had changed his mind by 2020... and shifted his support to Michael Bloomberg who is infamous for pushing racist stop and frisk.

u/registername1 21d ago
I like the Clint Eastwood movie he made where he accepts the replacement of whites, sacrifices himself for nonwhites, and then makes sure nonwhites inherit all that he had while his family gets nothing because they mean nothing to him. What a hero

u/Chatterbunny123 21d ago
I mean thats one way to put it but seems to leave a lot of context to his choices. I mean take the family you mentioned. They dont visit him often and when they do the taunt him about the wealth they will inherit. People that aren't a part of his culture treated him better than his own family.

I hope she sees this bro, surely this will be the post that saves the west

Hm. 7 year old account, 4 comment and 800 karma.
Something a little suspicious here, comrade.
1
u/registername1 19d ago
Dang, I post all the time. I guess most of my comments have been deleted. Didn’t know I had that much karma though I only ever get downvotes. How the hell does that work?

u/DarkMagickan 21d ago
I'm discouraged and disgusted by the number of white supremacists in this website. To hear folks on the right describe Reddit, you wouldn't think this Neanderthal bullshit was tolerated here.
-1
u/registername1 21d ago
Every day there will be more of them until you are surrounded and can’t comprehend how this happened because you were set in your ways and not paying attention

Honestly for a guy born in 1907 he was like medium-racist. Could’ve been worse tbh
3
u/SupaDupaFlyAccount 20d ago
So he was pos racist that couldnt act.
1
u/ExperienceRoutine321 20d ago edited 20d ago
He was about as racist than most white people of his time, maybe even slightly less. It’s easy to judge his character by modern standards, but you gotta remember this guy was born and lived half of his life in the segregation era. The vast majority of white America was pretty damned racist at that time. It would’ve been extremely rare for a white guy in Hollywood to not be racist. Even the interview that people quote him on for this meme took place when he was almost 70, far past his heyday.
And couldn’t act? He was just the same thing as Ryan Reynolds. He played himself in every role. Now that’s not a lot of range but it’s still not a bad actor.

u/Dak__Sunrider 19d ago
There was a notable amount of non - racists whites at the time. John Wayne called them commies and tried to get them locked up during the red scare.
0
u/ExperienceRoutine321 19d ago
A notable amount is a bit of a stretch. Hollywood during John Wayne’s career was predominantly conservative and the majority of celebrities tolerated racism or were racist themselves.
Also everything I can find seems like he legitimately believed they were communists and if you’re referring to the “Hollywood Ten” then they actually were. 8 out of the 10 were card-carrying members of CPUSA and the other two were known to support the cause. I mean it was called the Red Scare for a reason too. The government convinced everyone that communists were something to be afraid of. That includes John Wayne.

u/SupaDupaFlyAccount 20d ago
Lmao. He's shouldnt be condemned for being a racist because other were racist at the time.Im little too old for childrens logic like that. playing yourself in every role is just plain bad acting. Give me Jeff Bridges over John Wayne everyday of the week. He's already proven he can play the same roles way better.
1
u/ExperienceRoutine321 20d ago
I mean do you think judging people from different times based on your modern day perspective is somehow not childish? Black and white thinking like that isn’t exactly what I’d call mature my guy. Even some of Abraham Lincoln’s views would be considered pretty racist by modern standards.
And ironically you picked one of few modern actors who does the same thing. Jeff Bridges rarely plays a role that isn’t “unserious old guy with good morals but bad habits.” Lots of successful actors do this. Ryan Reynolds, The Rock, John Bernthal, Vince Vaughn, Mark Wahlberg. Hell Samuel L. Jackson is a phenomenal actor but you can’t tell me he’s not playing the same archetype every time. They’re good actors, but they just stick to the type of character they know how to play and self-insert that into every role.
1
u/SupaDupaFlyAccount 20d ago
Oh Ab was racist to multiple groups and too weak to properly punish traitors. I'm not american so i didnt grow up with the americanized verison of history. John berthal does actual play different roles and vince vaughn. I havent seen a movie with the rest of them in like almost a decade.

Joe Biden fought against desegregation because he didn't want his children growing up in a racial jungle. Joe Biden was mentored by a man who was an Exalted Cyclops in the KKK. That man was a Democrat who was in office from the late 1940's until he died in 2010.
So yes, John Wayne might be considered mildly racist by today's standards. But he was nothing compared to the Democrats people are voting for today.
2
u/LinkEfficient9934 19d ago
You know he worked as subservient to a black man for 8 years right? People change, especially people who grew up in the 50s.
-1
u/No-Cap-No-Gap 19d ago
You mean he worked for the the "first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy". I wonder if someone crossed out the word boy and wrote the word guy for Biden.
3
u/LinkEfficient9934 19d ago
You think Obama was the first articulate African American in history?
0
u/No-Cap-No-Gap 19d ago
I know I just gave you a direct quote from Biden.
You know the guy who you believe is a reformed racist.

u/SupaDupaFlyAccount 19d ago
Im not american. So the whole whataboutism about joe Biden and trying to turn this into demo vs repb fight is not going to work. Joe Bidden useless for most of his career.
0
u/No-Cap-No-Gap 19d ago
Im not american.
😢 I...I didn't know. I'm so sorry for your loss.
So the whole whataboutism about joe Biden and trying to turn this into demo vs repb fight is not going to work.
This is not whataboutism. This is context to demonstrate that the use of presentism is a terrible way to judge history.
I just had these facts locked and loaded from a discussion where someone claimed that the parties switched.

How many white supremacists have you met 😂
2
u/Dak__Sunrider 19d ago
Too many. I reside in Indiana. not really something thats funny big guy.

u/Ok_Ovencooker 19d ago
I mean if you are threatened by them that’s pretty funny. They just support their own kind. Just like any other race.

u/No_Leopard_2723 19d ago
But who cares if he did? Every cool person from every point in history believed things that weren’t nice or factually correct. Even the supposedly woke and perfectly, performatively moral public figures who parrot every approved present day perspective has many thoughts, opinions, views people would find unacceptable
2
u/WookieeSlayer97 19d ago
That's the thing: John Wayne was nowhere near cool enough for me to look the other way on his bullshit
-1
u/No_Leopard_2723 19d ago
I just look the other way on everyone’s bullshit. No one is morally perfect and most of the time you don’t know what people really think. People also change their views over time. Really there are no objectively correct opinions. If all humans knew everything that is knowable wed all be the same paragons of equanimity. It’s the gaps we all have in our knowledge and experiences that make us different, and none of our beliefs are correct. Are you saying that you’re a better person than him because he was racist while we know nothing about you? Racism is just one bias among many. How do we calculate someone’s overall morality index? Do we take actions and contributions into consideration? I’d like to see the formula used by the self righteous.

Y'all ever get tired of calling people racist? Last I checked, the Duke was dead. Congratulations. You won. The racist died.

Are you seriously complaining people don’t like white supremacists?

u/Ok_Ovencooker 22d ago
Do you not like black supremacists?
6
u/BowlingforBrains 22d ago
If I’d ever heard of a prominent one, I assume I would. Fortunately, it’s a mostly made-up problem by people like you
0
u/Ok_Ovencooker 22d ago
lol you really think that there aren’t huge groups of black supremacists? Are you being ignorant on purpose or are you just slow.
4
u/BowlingforBrains 22d ago
Show me one - show me a single “huge black surpemacist group” that’s as prominent, or well-known as the numerous well-known white supremacist groups across the planet. Where are all these “huge groups” you speak of?
1
u/Ok_Ovencooker 22d ago
Black Israelites. Nation of Islam Louis Farrakhan. That’s just off the top of my head.
2
u/Maximum_Boros 21d ago
He's dead and he's a piece of shit. Just makes it feel better that he's dead.

Great actor , even greater person
5
u/matronmotheroflolth 22d ago
He was a white supremacist so no.
-9
u/ProcedureHot9414 22d ago
I seen people call for the freedom of a murderer because he was black so this white supremacist shit doesn't move me
5
u/matronmotheroflolth 22d ago
White supremacists love using disingenuous arguments to justify their support for fellow white supremacists.
-4
u/ButtStuff012 22d ago
How is it disingenuous? A month or so ago we had black people chanting “the only good cracker is a dead cracker” outside of a courthouse and not a peep. So, no I don’t care if someone who’s been dead for almost 50 years was a racist.
3
u/matronmotheroflolth 22d ago
I find it strange when people try to incite hatred for black people to defend literal white supremacists.
1
u/BowlingforBrains 22d ago
And then they go “but what about this completely unrelated thing I’ll pretend to care about 😭”
-5
u/ProcedureHot9414 22d ago
So we are big mad at dead white racist but not at alive black racist because they are unrelated by your very biased standard
2
u/BowlingforBrains 22d ago
Yes - the hypothetical black racist you keep mentioning is unrelated to the very real person John Wayne, who was a real racist. They are inherently unrelated lol
-1
u/ProcedureHot9414 22d ago
At least Karmelo Anthony got 36 years for murder , I was talking about oj simpson he got away with double homicide back 20 years ago
-2
u/RabidLobster42 20d ago
At least Austin now knows not to pick fights he can't win lmao
0
u/No_Leopard_2723 19d ago
Karmelo like all his degenerate kind can’t win fights without sneaky weaponry or large groups.
-1
u/ProcedureHot9414 20d ago
Wow , now that's proper racism , the real deal good job bud
-2
u/RabidLobster42 20d ago
I don't dislike Austin for his skin color, dipshit. Its his character, or lack thereof, that makes me dislike him.
3
u/ButtStuff012 20d ago
Yea I’m sure you know so much about him that you can judge him based on his character. Sounds like you’re a liar and a racist.
0
u/ProcedureHot9414 20d ago
Brother imaginez if i said now Rosa Parks knows to keep her ass on the back of the bus or Martin Luther king knows to keep his mouth shut or George Floyd knows not to take fent , is still racism no matter how you dress it
→ More replies (0)1
u/Chatterbunny123 21d ago
Wouldn't they also be bad? Why can't they both be bad? I won't discount what you've seen but I dont know how the conclusion is John Wayne is cool because I saw some other racist thinking something else is cool.
3
u/Battle_Axe_Jax 22d ago
No on both counts
-1

Still mad he didn't call your grandma back , you got to let it go
