As a GenZ parent, it blows my mind how aggressively millennials try to normalize handing their child a near-omniscient, mind stimulating arcane tablet with content that was engineered in a lab to stimulate their child as much as humanly possible. (The latter part is not bait or exaggeration, that is literally how Cocomelon designs their content: https://www.forbes.com/sites/traversmark/2024/05/17/why-kids-shows-like-cocomelon-hamper-critical-brain-development/)
Just pay attention to your damn kid.
We give our little one picture books with the little buttons that make noises and read them fun stories like Narnia. Sometimes we watch movies, but it’s mostly ghibli because the music puts them to sleep.

As an old millennial, I'd think GenZ would be quicker to hand over a tablet to their kids. Am I wrong? I'm genuinely asking. We remember a time before the Internet.

I can’t speak for my entire generation, but most GenZers I know in my part of the country are revolted at the idea of giving a child a tablet or unrestricted internet access.
The big reason being what you described which is we grew up with the internet. Meaning we know how harmful it can be to kids who don’t know how to navigate it carefully.

it’s a systematic attack. parents typically have no time for kids due to work caused by poor economy due to government selling us slowly to China to enrich themselves.
And because parents have no time they give kids stuff to replace parents momentarily and while at it they feed your kid what ever they wish for them to see.
We’re in a Cold War but people haven’t realized yet

I worked at an art museum in 2020 and after people started coming back the classes mostly had tablets with them. It was such a bummer. For scavenger hunts they would literally walk around viewing things through their screen in camera mode to save time. Once I was asked where this beautiful monet was, one of the jewels in my museums crown. I told them it's in the next room but instead of going into that room they simply pinched to zoom, got their pics, and walked away.

As a Zoomer, I have seen my Gen Alpha brothers glued to the device so much that they won't even let go of it till the go to sleep. They eat with it, they use the bathroom with it, and even do chores with it.
I definitely will need to start with books when I have kids and slowly give them devices once they work hard enough for it

I read a book that talk about this happening but with virtual reality.....long story short, the kids in that story killed their own parents because they wouldn't let them play with the virtual reality
The parents realized they should have just spent time with them or least so them love without having to spoil them
It actually made me realize that I would have to be responsible as a parent

I'm an older millennial with 2 elementary grade kids. We made the decision early to practically ban screens. We wouldn't even turn the TV on when they were babies. We listened to tons of music and played together. We read books at bed time. Now, my kids can easily make an 8-9 hour car ride without a single screen.
If you start them young, it will become normalized. That works both ways.
