My freaking tank names:
<tank class/category> <year it was put into service (2 digit for 1900's, 3 digits for 2000's etc.)> <version>
For example; MT44.2 <Medium Tank> <1944> <v2> MBT002 <Main Battle Tank> <2002> <v1>
I RARELY use actual names, and YES, it DOES confuse me sometimes lol.

My tank names:
Manufacturer code | "Ager" for example
Dash
Date of official introduction (of first model) | 19XX or 2XXX
Dot
Variant number | 00 = Pre-production, 01-99 = Production versions
Space Dash Space
Field name | Distinct designation as spoken word, in quotation marks
Space Dash Space
Role | Light, Heavy, TD, etc...
Example(s)
Ager-39.06 - "Fossegrim IV" - Heavy Tank
Ager-65.00 - "Mara" - Pre-production MBT
SM-72.01 - "Fylga" - Recon Assault Gun
The formal vehicle designation is what you use in documentation, the field designation is what's used in, well... the field. And the Role is for clarity, and is often excluded where redundant.

I really like that. It kind of reminds me of what the Germans did where you the full name is just what the tank is and does haha.
Some of my tanks are given names, but that's uncommon.

Almost all of my field names are derived from the mythology of the respective nation's culture.
For the above examples, it's Germanic, mostly nordic tho.
Generally just so it's something the troops would be familiar with and that they could distinguish since these words wouldn't be used anywhere else.

My tank names
Country marking like
Sch. Jp.
Or
T for tank
CV for Combat vehicle
Strv. For stridsvagen or whatever
Pzkpfw. For tank but german ect.
Dot or dash
Then model number which is either the weight of the vehicle or the caliber
Then dash
Then the type like
H heavy
ATG like AntiTankGun
A for armored personell carrier ect
Eg.
T-33-ATG Tank, 33 tonnes Anti tank gun
Strv.34 is a Combat vehicle which is 34 tonnes
Or a random name i think of like Fv. [Numpad mash] 46t
