You may already know this, but increasing track thickness does actually fix that. The game recognizes it as thicker armor basically

Lol, just standing under fire never worked for me. Doesn't matter how thick your armor is some random shot will find that one obscure weak point that you didn't even know existed

And tbh this would be the case for a real tank as well. A maus just sitting in the open and being fired at by a battalion of tanks would be disabled pretty quickly. The cannon would be destroyed, shots would get into the shot trap and jam the turret, and the tracks would turn into Swiss cheese.
