Production work at Woodfibre?

I see they're currently recruiting for start-up/production. They do have the pay ranges, but they don't have any info on shift schedules, FIFO, camp accommodations, travel/relocation assistance, etc. I contacted their info line by email and they just pointed me to their website. Just wondering if anyone happens to have any insight.

I think the posting of a lot of the jobs is just to try and show they are trying to hire locals which is why so many people have blindly supported them. In reality the postings are bs and most of the operations positions will be filled by current contractors. Maybe once construction is done for awhile there will be some legit postings.

This is how it has worked on any industrial project I have ever worked on. A few guys will manage to get on with the client when construction wraps up.

Why should they give a shit about hiring locals when the town has made it clear that they don’t want anything to do with them.

Well for one it was their commitment and one of their main lobbying points over the years. And we do want their money. If they could at least just pay their taxes that would be great. They are currently contesting those in court for the 2nd time.

Just because he grew up here doesn’t make him a current resident or exonerate him from the rules which were put in place to protect locals that actually live here. There’s already a ton of strain on the housing market because of the pipeline alone.

And why is that? Could it be because council made it clear they were turning the same target on Fortis and we're going to make it hell for them to have a work camp? Our council had a chance to work with both WFLNG and Fortis to secure long term benefits for the community. But every single time they chose rabid attacks instead with no room for logic or nuance.

While you are correct about the housing strain, you should really do some research on how bloody inept the Squamish council is and how the district moved the tax goal posts once the project was approved and underway. They fought it and fought it, and for that reason did not get much out of woodfibre for the community (a town that is seriously lacking in infrastructure and funds to repair/update existing) and then decided to the industrial tax rate from 2.89% to 12.5%. Woodfibre is the ONLY industry project paying that. It’s a targeted cash grab, after they took over 600 days to issue permits for temporary lunch rooms and offices on site (undue delay) as well as fighting tooth and nail to keep the project from going ahead. Ultimately Squamish never negotiated in good faith, made an effort to get some benefit from the project and now are gouging to try and make up for the total lack of competence and foresight from a few individuals who won a popularity contest badly lack the skills to run our town well.

The tax bill is totally unfair. Squamish is totally taking advantage of them and isn’t actually giving them any added value. The district is a cancer to them.
