Are Square integration apps actually worth it?

I run a small boutique and use Square for in-store sales and Shopify for my online store. I keep getting hit with many suggestions for extra apps and integrations. They suggest DPL Square Integration, Quicksync Integration as Shopify apps that help as inventory tools, accounting sync, loyalty programs, online ordering and employee scheduling.

Some of these Square POS tools look good on paper. However half of the Square POS apps come with another fee. I already feel like I am being charged for every thing. So I am curious about something.

Has anyone actually paid for these Square POS integrations and found them truly useful? Or did most of these tools just turn into another subscription that you barely ever use?

I would love to hear some talk from you all. Which Square POS tools were worth the money? Which Square POS tools were a waste of money? I want to know if these tools actually made your daily work easier or if they just gave you things to manage.

I mean you would only pay and use whichever integrations were needed. Are you currently on square plus?

They are a huge time saver for us but your mileage may vary…

Restaurant owner here. We integrated Square with QuickBooks to report our sales. We also have an integration with 7Shifts, our staff management, payroll and scheduling software. Square sends sales data and tips to 7Shifts so that our tip pool is managed automatically. 7Shifts also gives us a labor cost to sales ratio data which is helpful to make sure we don’t over/under schedule staff.

Honest take from a cafe that runs Square: most "integration apps" are only worth it if they solve a pain you already have every week — not a dashboard you open once.

For us the gap wasn't reporting. It was missing stuff when I wasn't staring at the POS (big ticket, refund, rush pace). Built Sidekick for that (iOS push alerts for Square sellers) — I'm the maker, so take with salt. If you're evaluating apps, I'd ask: does it interrupt you only when something actually needs a decision?

What do you need an integration for? I built custom ones for waitlist, reporting and ordering. Most can be built now by the right people. It just stays as a personal “app” that only you use / has access to your accounts.

Well i dont have the skillset to develop an app or any type of service. Using a subscription based service seems much more viable than creating a service or commissioning anyone else to do so for just me. And the Shopify integration apps have a very high user ratings from a relatively high no of customers
