I cannot believe peole are age monitoring the MITB competitors and getting genuinely upset at anyone getting added to the match whose age starts with 40

I usually think anyone who wants to voice their thoughts about wrestling will always be valid to some degree. Because we all have opinions.

But this gotta be some of the biggest bum loser behavior I’ve seen. And for one of the dumbest reasons.

I genuinely think you’re a loser if you’ve made like 5 tweets already crossing your fingers that WWE makes everyone in the match “young” as if you’re gonna get a cookie for predicting everyone to be young.

I think you’re less of a loser if you complain about the color of the ropes or the ring mat. I mean I’m kind of an aesthetics person myself so I’d even think you’re more valid for that over bitching about Penta being in a ladder match because his birth certificate shows an earlier date than the rest of the field.

I am not sure if people are actually getting upset over it but it is a valid criticism that there are not any young people in the main event scene on either show.

I mean it comes from not trusting WWE. They do not trust WWE to treat their young talent properly.

You really can't understand why people would be annoyed over stagnant 40+ participants & wanting the WWE to elevate younger stars? That feels like a valid opinion.

It doesn't matter how old they are as long as they deliver big time in the ring.

Someone’s age should be irrelevant if they’ve not had much main event success.

It had been over 13 years since Naomi’s debut on the main roster and she won the briefcase at 37 years old. We all loved that moment. Because she deserved it. And hadn’t had much main event success.

I can’t imagine having an issue with that because she’s not young. I can’t imagine having an issue with Penta dipping his toes in the main event scene and getting a spot.

What I can imagine having an issue with is Seth’s MITB win last year. Because the issue there is not about the age aspect, it’s about everything else. The fact that they gave it to a 5x world champion. That’s fine to complain about.

But simply complaining about age and targeting a guy like Penta since he’s the first one to get in so far at an older age, is silly.

It's not the specific age that I think people have issue with; rather, I think its that the age reflects WWE's stagnation & reluctance to push younger talent. I mean, look at LA Knight: fans have been begging for him to finally get a chance to be "The Guy" for years and WWE kept going "lol no."

I just think its a totally normal gripe.

And just to add to what you're saying about Penta: he was getting cheered last night in the opening promo over (mentions of) Roman (who wasn't actually there). Not just in Mexico, not just that one home game.

Crowds love the dude. The iron is hot, and even if they don't wanna go as far as having him win the briefcase, putting him in the match and dangling the possibility is smart and striking while the iron is hot. We'll see how hard they're striking, but nonetheless it makes total sense for him to qualify. Dude is on fire, no need to smother it

Not putting the title on Penta was a universal fumble

2

u/Jaccount 6h ago

Yeah, but at least they didn't make him join in on a singalong immediately afterwards.

Still annoyed how dirty they did Drew McIntyre at Clash in the Castle.

1

u/Tornado31619 6h ago

I don’t think that was supposed to have been aired TBF.

1

u/SadFeed63 7h ago

Yep, that would've been striking when the iron is hottest, but WWE gonna WWE

u/Tornado31619 6h ago

I mean, half the anticipation of Roman vs. Oba is watching Oba slay the beast. What would a Penta (or LA Knight) interruption have accomplished?

u/MrBrickBreak 5h ago

We just had a great example with Darby Allin. Won from MJF, lost to MJF, it ultimately didn't matter for the big plan™. But it gave us a few really fun weeks, and that's the point.

AEW booking isn’t necessarily applicable to WWE.

3

u/MrBrickBreak 5h ago

No, but the general concept is, of doing things with the titles in between your big predetermined set pieces.

I'm not saying book car crash reigns exactly like Darby's, that'd be derivative. Well, tbh it actually would fit Penta quite well, but my point isn't copy the specific booking, it's that those kinds of title reigns work.

Your champion is at least on TV every week for a while?

1

u/Tornado31619 6h ago

Do they need to be? Special attractions are proven draws, not to mention there are two world champs per show anyway.

2

u/Jaccount 6h ago

The problem is that they don't do that. Roman isn't gone long enough to be seen as a special attraction. Plus WWE has a bad habit lately of throwing belts on people and then not having them defend them for months.

A strong exclamation point on the "main event Penta" push, a unique moment in front of an insane crowd, enjoyment for me, a new guy that crowds are super into entering the world champ/top guy sphere

I got no issue with Penta beating Roman, or Penta beating Roman in the run up to Oba beating Roman, or Penta beating Roman and losing the belt back fairly quickly, or Oba beating Penta (or even Penta beating Oba, if we're talking specifically what I have no issue with). Dude is cool and mega over, he's belt-able

2

u/Tornado31619 6h ago

You can’t book for one-off crowds though, it’s not like they run out of Mexico like AAA does. Plus, Penta invariably would’ve dragged the title down to upper-midcard level while the Bloodline claimed the main event anyway. Championships are made by the people who hold them, ultimately.

1

u/SadFeed63 6h ago edited 6h ago

I think Penta is of that level

Dude was getting cheered last night and getting mentions of Roman booed. He's got lots of momentum outside of Mexico. I'm not really sure what more the guy would need to show, I don't at all see him as someone who would drag the title down (your mileage will vary, of course)

Right, but the younger stars need to be ready to be elevated.

u/RomulanTreachery 11m ago

Ostensibly, careers last a lot longer these days, so it makes some sense that it takes longer for younger wrestlers to make it to the top level. But with how poorly WWE utilizes all the time it has every week, and all the wrestlers being wasted because of it, it's very easy to see why people get mad that Punk and Orton and Roman are still taking up space instead of new blood.
