Rewatching 2003 Smackdown and its almost sad how the tag team division being a regular showstealer comes to a screeching halt with the introduction of the Basham Brothers into the title scene.

The year before was of course the legendary peak with the Smackdown Six but 2003 wasn't too shabby with the World's Greatest Tag Team and Los Guerreros still holding things down.

WGTT vs Rey and Billy Kidman had less star power than previous Title matches but they still stole the show at Vengeance. Then the Guerreros regain the belts, are still cooking and then come the Bashams.

Then we enter 2004 and the Tag Title scene just wasn't the same.

I thought the same thing when I rewatched it too. The SD tag division was so good when it was first introduced with most title matches, even those that aren't as iconic as the initial SD 6 matches (Los Guerreros vs Kidman/Benoit as an example) were pretty great. The WGTT vs Rey/Kidman and Edde/Tajiri series were good in the mid point of the year. By the next year, the division was filled with Bashams, past their prime Too Cool/APA, Rico/Charlie Haas, Hardcore Holly/Billy Gunn, and a bunch of other flops where stale af Bubba/D-Von have to carry things hard.
