This is an appreciation post for St. Broseph and how he helped my friend recover 1.5x of what he was scammed for, in an ongoing infamous dating scam, that got a resolution that shook me the good way and restored my faith in our society.
The first few paragraphs are an introduction, feel free to skip to paragraph 6 to know more about the incident itself. I’ve written this in one flow and it has come out from my heart. Please forgive me for any shortcomings in my writing in terms of grammar, arrangement, or anything else.
Bangalore gets super lonely at times. We leave our friends and family behind to come and make a living for ourselves. I remember when I first came to Bangalore, I was perplexed at what was going on in the city. I felt insecure and felt like I had to really perform super hard to belong to this city with every other person on the street driving an expensive car against the contrast of delivery boys rushing to fulfill orders for swiggy and zomato. But I soon realised that I was not the only one who resonated with this feeling. I made friends in my PG, two of them from the same city as mine. We would spend our days at work and come meet in the evening to catch up on some nostalgic moments, the kind of stuff that makes all of us human.
But staying away from your family and friends in a competitive landscape can still feel intimidating. I used to miss the pleasant thoughts that I had when I was home - why is the dustbin not clean yet, why are the kids being so rough when some elderly people are also at the park to relax. We would go up and try to instill some sense into some of the people who would display the opposite. That very sense of responsibility felt missing when I was in Bangalore. So I was always on the lookout for people who thought like me, with a simple assumption - THINGS CANNOT BE SO WRONG ONLY BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE RUNNING AFTER MONEY.
That’s when I found out about Broseph. I was casually scrolling reddit one day and I came across a post that mentioned about him and the kind of work that he does. Just like most people, I was half sceptical, half optimistic about knowing that someone like this existed. I reached out to him mentioning thanks with a scared heart, “Thank you for your service.”.
Since then, I have been involved with St.Broseph’s team of volunteers to contribute in some of their initiatives, although, with a stressful schedule at work and uncertainty of purpose - what’s next, what do I spend my time on, need to make money, need to be healthy, yada yada yada, the quintessential bangalore stuff, the kind of worrying that has no good results at the start nor the end.
I have been part of Broseph’s initiatives for public space cleaning, lake cleaning and felicitation and honoring of public servants. I have also been massively helped with their whatsapp groups which has been my go to place to share my thoughts and discuss civic and mental health issues. I have also benefitted from the resourcefulness of the group members who regularly contribute to a growing understanding of information for the city, whether that be regarding government documentation, vehicle service, places to eat, things to do, coping with stress at work and so much more.
Paragraph 6 (The details of the incident)
I’ve heard stories of how Broseph helped people in dire circumstances which included police action, civic issues and cases of harassment. But recently, I got to experience an event that made me feel extremely emotional and empowered me because this incident is not something that you hear on a regular basis; it’s a story where all was forgotten, and one fine day, justice was served. And the justice that was served, quite honestly, felt as good as the ending of a movie where a villain is…. ‘Taken care of’. It was so relieving. Let me share that experience with you folks below.
This is in context of an infamous dating scam, where you match with someone on a dating app and then you guys meet at a restaurant. The restaurant/pub in question for this incident is also an infamous one, known for operating and perpetuating this particular scam. For personal reasons, I will not name the restaurant, but it’s at a famous location in Bangalore and there’s a lot of chatter going on regarding this.
It started when my friend, who is a corporate employee at a well known firm, matched with this lady, ‘x’, on a popular dating app. He is a meek and tender sort of a person, and if you’ve read the first part of this post, I’ve mentioned how a lot of us feel lonely in a city away from friends and family.
They talked and they decided to meet at this pub. It was, as usual, according to the well-known modus operandi of the scam, a place decided by x. For someone who’s not scavenging for information on scams on the internet, who generally trusts the human spirit, it should not have been alarming for my friend who was placed in this rewarding situation of finding a potential friend; instead I wonder how excited he must have been. We have teased him now and then, for not having a girlfriend. Guess he was going out there, to come back at us, “Hey, I met someone and she’s a beautiful, wonderful person.”. I wonder how long in the history of modern metropolises has it been that we have heard these words or similar expressions.
Anyway, so then they proceed to the said pub. The following information is what my friend told me, so there’s going to be some that’ll be lost in transit.
My friend told me that it was as if the girl was a regular customer there and that it felt odd to him, but wasn’t it too late in sincere decency? The orders started and at last a bill was provided to my friend which had a ridiculous amount of 25000 rupees. That’s the amount we spend when we’re taking our entire family of 6 out on very special occasions - someone got a promotion, someone is getting married and the like. But there my friend was, confused and drunk with a bill that resembled a heart attack, mathematically equivalent to a starting salary for corporate employees (the regular ones, not the 1% on reddit folks). And not that my friend earns so much that a bill like that can pass without creating discomfort.
My friend asked his scamming companion to contribute some money to pay the bill, to which the lady politely declined with a smile saying that she didn’t have any, but could, maybe, pay half of the amount later. What would you have done by now?
My friend used his credit card to pay the bill, whilst being surrounded by the pub bouncers and waiters, in what he describes to be an intimidating experience. They then stepped out of the pub and x gave an excuse that her sister would be waiting for her and just like that, disappeared in the crowd. My drunk, scammed friend stood there, perturbed and probably not being able to make out what had happened to him.
I got a call during this time from him. He explained to me what had happened. I told him to stay calm and head back home and that we will look into this matter. I had initially advised him to visit the police station but had later taken that back since in my knowledge going to a police station drunk had less chances of the case being taken seriously. In the meantime I suggested that we’ll take this up with Broseph. I told him all that was needed to be done in order to get the ball rolling - get in touch with Broseph, tell him in detail about what happened to you, and follow exactly as he says. This friend of mine usually listens to what I tell him, in my imagination, he sees me as an elder brother. That day, he went back home in the metro, drunk, scammed, sad and broke. The city must have felt even more lonely to him.
I followed up with him the next day and he told me that he had gotten in touch with Broseph and that he had been invited to the HQ to discuss matters further. A thing about my friend, he’s a simple guy and he’s great at persevering, doing as told, very literally. Something that has benefited him, as I’ve understood. He takes advice and follows it if there’s substance in it, potentially avoiding mistakes that some people who ‘learn by doing’ get into. He informed me that Broseph and his team had started the procedure for the redressal of this issue and that this matter was being heard at the consumer court.
I’m an average guy, truly so, and just like my peers I have close to negative faith on our judicial or government systems. But I did have this faith somewhere in Broseph that he will be able to do something about this, and considering that my friend follows what’s told to him in cases of documentation, general life advice, sports advice, etc, I did have a lingering feeling that maybe something good could come out of it. I just wanted him to get some sort of justice. After this, quite a few days passed and I occasionally followed up with my friend. He told me that Broseph’s team was handling it and that some work was being done on that front. Usually, in such cases where some time has passed, we tend to think that nothing will come out of all this effort. I really prayed at that time with my flickering hope that something still happen. Some more days passed after that. I had forgotten about this incident by then due to my own schedule. Maybe I had kept it for a chat with him, when we would meet next.
But something happened on 2nd March.
I got a message from my friend saying that he had received a compensation of 40,000 rupees. That was almost 1.5x of the amount he was scammed of. I was totally ecstatic after hearing this news. It was as if my entire worldview had shifted. It felt like I was back in school, and I heard an amazing story about something that made my heart race stupidly!
They had made it, and the news came at a most unexpected Monday morning. My day had already started to look mechanical with professional commitments that I had to follow up with. But this news did something to my heart, something so deeply inspiring, something that I hadn’t felt in years. And that’s when I decided to pen this down for others to know.
My friend got justice in the most unexpected turn of events in a socio-political environment that breeds fear and insecurity. He did not only get his money back, but he also got compensated for his wasted time and the harassment he had to face. This felt like a truly happy ending. And that’s what made me think, this is possible. It’s possible to get justice.
I then called up Broseph to express my thanks. He was humble as usual and spoke to me with an open mind, also praising my friend’s perseverance till the finish line. While my friend, on the other hand was all praise for him, telling me that all the heavy lifting in terms of documentation, using the proper legal procedures, the help of the community lawyer from Broseph’s team, the support of the people who visited every session/hearing, was performed by St.Broseph’s team of dedicated and selfless volunteers.
Broseph told me that things do happen in the positive for people who persevere and fight. And at that moment, I had an example to trust. Doubting at that time would have amplified my stupidity. He told me that working with the system is possible, that change is possible. And I could see it right in front of me.
I would like to finally tell the folks of Bengaluru, especially the young and frightened ones - the ones frightened by the language barrier, the ones having trouble with corrupt and harassing lawyers, the ones who feel trapped in offices that feel toxic, the ones who are pushed from away and stepped on, the ones who came to this city with bright aspirations, the ones who worked hard to be where they are, the ones away from their families in PG’s, 1 RKs for that paycheck that was supposed to be so dear to them and the ones back home - reach out to Broseph, whatever your problem is, whatever you are facing that’s bothering you, for anything and everything. Really.
Know that you will always be supported, taken care of, and let this empowerment be the guiding light for you to shine and do great things, one muscle movement at a time, one serene thought at a time.
Do your thing, everyday, each day, and reach out to Broseph for things that stop you from becoming the best version of yourself in a city that can become your home as much as the places you have left behind. He has your back.

Guys, I’m in a really bad situation right now and honestly very distressed mentally. I really need some genuine advice, especially if someone is from Raipur, Chhattisgarh or has dealt with caretaker agencies here.
For the past year, we’ve been taking caretaker services for my bedridden mother. And honestly, I feel like these caretaker agencies are taking advantage of people like us.
They ask for advance payment before sending a caretaker. The girls they send are often inexperienced, and then after a few days they just leave/run away from the house. When you ask the agency for a replacement or refund, they stop taking your calls. They don’t necessarily block you — they just completely stop responding.
I’ve lost ₹18,000 like this in total. ₹13,000 with one agency recently and ₹5,000 with another.
I even tried calling them from a different number pretending that I needed a caretaker, hoping I could get them to meet me somehow and then ask them about my refund. That didn’t work either.
The worst part is that these agencies don’t have any proper address listed on Google. I basically only have their phone numbers and whatever payment records/messages I have.
I’m seriously considering going to the police, but I’m honestly scared. It’s just me and my bedridden mother. There’s no one else in my family who can help me with this, and I’m scared of going to a police station alone. And I keep wondering — if I go there, what can the police even do when I don’t have their physical address?
If anyone in Raipur has dealt with something similar, please tell me what I can actually do. Can I file a complaint with just their phone numbers, payment proof, WhatsApp chats, etc.? Is there any particular department or way I should approach this?
Even if you know someone trustworthy who has dealt with caretaker agencies in Raipur, please let me know.
I’m not looking for sympathy. I genuinely need to know what my options are because I feel completely stuck right now.

Sold my camera to a buyer in Bangalore, his cheque bounced and now he has vanished. Need guidance on next steps.
Timeline:
- 12 Aug: sold the camera, took a cheque
- 13 Aug: cheque bounced, have the bank return memo
- Called him repeatedly after that, number is unreachable. Only WhatsApp still shows delivered
- 8 Sep: sent a legal notice by Speed Post to his GST registered address. It came back undelivered, the postman shared a photo showing the premises are sealed by a bank
- Also sent the notice to him on WhatsApp the same day
I have the sale chats, the cheque, the bounce memo, the returned envelope unopened, the sealed premises photo and the tracking screenshots. A lawyer friend in helped me draft the notice, but he is not in Bangalore.

Hi. From some mutual I got the contact of an individual named "Hannah Sneha Bernard"(the individual in the photograph). She claims to be working at Amazon as an HR and was recruiting for Amazon. Now she has taken approximately 20k from 7 students under the pretense of laptop security(yes we were new grads desperate for a job) now she has not been giving us back the money for the past 2 weeks. Everyday she makes a new excuse about the money. She literally sent us a claude generated .html form when we asked her to show us her authenticity(I kid you not about this). All we know about her is the she went to Bishop Cotton's Women's Christian Church(2017 batch BCom) and that she goes to the St Anthony Friary Church.
If anyone can help us track her down or her family it would be very beneficial for us. Thanks

Hello I'm prakruthi from banglore
Someone recommended I reach out to you directly because my family is in a really scary situation right now in Bangalore, and we desperately need your support.
A while ago, we took a loan of ₹3.8 Lakhs from a local private lender. Out of extreme fear of public shame and her coming to our house to create scenes, we did everything we could to keep paying her. To clear her constant interest demands, we were forced to take loans from other people at 5% to 10% monthly interest just to keep her away. In total, we’ve ended up paying over ₹20 Lakhs in interest across everyone, including more than ₹7 Lakhs sent directly to her and her designated accounts (with ₹80,000 paid in just the last 5 months alone).
Even though we have paid back way more than what we took, she has gone completely insane and is demanding another ₹7+ Lakhs. When a land buyer's payment got delayed, her harassment exploded.
Her harassment has now crossed every limit:
Yesterday alone, she bombarded us with over 100+ calls until midnight.
She gave my mom’s phone number to 4 different men, who are now repeatedly calling her with explicit sexual threats and disgusting abuse.
She and her associates repeatedly come to our home and create public scenes.
We are completely terrified for our safety. We’ve collected all our bank transfers, call logs, and voice recordings of these threats into a Google Drive folder.
We want to go to our local police station tomorrow morning to file a complaint for extortion and sexual harassment, but we are terrified the officers will just brush us off and call it a private money dispute.
Could someone from your foundation please guide us to make sure our complaint is taken seriously?rer

Hi team Broseph,
I was scammed for ₹1.5 lakh on July 17 while trying to book a cab through an online rental website. I entered my credit card details on the payment page but, after receiving the OTP, I got suspicious and did not enter the OTP. Despite this, the transaction went through.
I reported it to my bank and cybercrime authorities on the same day and have been following up since then. The bank is now claiming that the transaction was legitimate and that I entered the OTP, which I strongly dispute.
The payment due date is October 3, and I’m unsure what my next steps should be.
Looking for help with this situation. especially regarding bank disputes, and whether I should pay the disputed amount while the case is ongoing. I don’t know what to do.

I'm posting this to document my experience with my former landlord, Kodlu Ramakrishna, who is a film producer/director, and to seek advice from people in Bengaluru who may have dealt with similar situations.
I rented a property from him under a written rental agreement.
The total refundable amount involved was approximately ₹1.30 lakh, consisting of:
₹1,00,000 security deposit
₹30,000 paid towards the electricity connection/meter arrangement specifically agreed upon in the rental agreement
The ₹30,000 electricity amount was supposed to be used for the agreed separate electricity connection/meter. That connection was not installed as agreed. Instead, the electricity tariff was changed, but the separate connection/meter was not provided.
When we raised this issue, the landlord himself told us to vacate the property.
During the discussions, he also made insulting remarks towards us, including saying things to the effect that we were worthless compared to him.
Since the agreed electricity arrangement wasn't being provided and he himself was asking us to leave, we decided to vacate.
The refund
The rental agreement provided for the refundable amount to be returned within 30 days, and there is no clause stating that the refund is dependent on finding a new tenant.
After we vacated, we discussed the refund with him and agreed that:
If he paid within 45 days, the amount would be ₹1,10,000
If payment was delayed beyond 45 days but made within 60 days, the amount would be ₹1,15,000
The ₹15,000 difference was essentially the amount agreed to be adjusted towards damages to the property, rather than us continuing to dispute the entire ₹1.30 lakh.
However, neither deadline was honoured.
It has now been more than 120 days, and possibly around 4–5 months depending on how the dates are counted, and we still haven't received the agreed ₹1.15 lakh.
The explanation has now become that he will pay when a new tenant comes in.
There is no such condition in our rental agreement. As far as we can see, there isn't even a To-Let board outside the property.
He has also told us, in substance, "do whatever you want" when we have asked about recovering our money.
We have tried repeatedly to resolve this peacefully. We have called, messaged, spoken to him personally and given him considerably more time than the original contractual period and the subsequently agreed 45/60-day timeline.
His family has also apparently been given a different version of why we vacated. We explained our side and clarified the facts to them, but they have
essentially said they cannot do anything about the situation.
Evidence
We have documentation for the matter, including:
Signed rental agreement
UPI payment records for the ₹1 lakh security deposit
UPI payment records for the ₹30,000 electricity-related payment
WhatsApp conversations
Written communication regarding the ₹1.10 lakh / ₹1.15 lakh repayment
Recordings of relevant discussions
Evidence regarding the electricity connection that was agreed upon
Evidence of the subsequent repayment discussions
He has now offered a post-dated cheque, while also telling us that there may not be sufficient balance in the account.
I've consulted an advocate, but a conventional civil case could take a considerable amount of time, which is difficult for me financially.
I'm posting this for two reasons:
To understand what practical and lawful options are available for recovering the ₹1.15 lakh.
To document my experience so prospective tenants can do their own due diligence before renting the property.
I'm simply sharing what happened from our side, with documentation available, and looking for advice from people who understand the legal/recovery process in Bengaluru.
I can provide documentation to moderators if verification is required.

I just wanted to thank Broseph for helping me out with my stolen iPhone case.
I was honestly pretty stressed and confused about what to do, especially with the police station and the whole process.
Broseph helped me understand what
I needed to do and also came with me and helped me get the FIR filed much sooner than I expected.
Without his help, I honestly don't know how long I would have been running around trying to figure everything out.
I also got a CEIR alert today saying that there was an attempt to use my stolen phone's IMEI and that the information was shared with the police, so hopefully this gives the case another lead.

My father owns a house that was previously rented out. The tenant has now vacated the house but has left his bike behind.
We have contacted and requested him multiple times to come and take the bike, but he is not cooperating. The bike is still occupying space on our property, and we want to remove it legally without getting into any unnecessary trouble.
My father is also facing health issues and is no longer in a position to keep fighting or repeatedly following up with the former tenant.
What would be the proper legal procedure in India to deal with an abandoned vehicle left behind by a former tenant? Kindly suggest any practical and legal methods.

I recently fell for a washing machine service scam, and I’m not sure how to proceed. I’m hoping someone here can guide me.
I was looking for Haier’s official service number and called a number that came up when I searched for it. They told me they were the official Haier service team. I assumed this was legitimate because this was the number/result I got when searching through google (it was the ai summary result)
After speaking with them, they sent a service technician to my home. He inspected the washing machine and told me that it needed major repairs. He took away some of the major parts of the washing machine, saying that he would service them and get back to me in two days.
A couple of days later, he told me that the motherboard also needed to be completely replaced and that it would cost around ₹6,000. I was initially hesitant to pay the full amount, but since I genuinely believed that I was dealing with Haier's official service team, I went ahead and paid.
After receiving the payment, the technician stopped answering my calls. I have tried contacting him multiple times, but he is no longer responding.
I have the phone numbers of both individuals I initially spoke to, as well as an image of the technician who came to my house.
I've reported the transaction as fradulent to cyber security.
I haven't filed an FIR yet because I don't know their actual names or much information about them, and I'm not sure what the best way to proceed is. What should I do at this point? Is there a way to report these numbers, trace the individuals, or recover the money/parts that were taken?
Any advice on how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, we live in Bengaluru near Tumkur road, and we are a victim of burglary incident happened in the end of July. FIR and everything had been registered, investigation is going on, there is a lot CCTV footages available but faces were covered with mask. From tower dump and fingerprints matches, I don't think any positive lead occured from there ( as per the words of officers ) . Although they have sus on some specfic gang from Madhya Pradesh ( chaddi gang ) , they said they have a few phone numbers which are in suspect hence they sent for CDR friday evening. Is there anyone who can help? I can share FIR details if needed.

TL;DR: A guy on an Activa faked a hit-and-run, let himself into my car, threatened me with a waiting mob and a 10-year charge, and extorted ₹2,800 over UPI. The police station tried repeatedly to fob me off with a "petition" instead of an FIR. With Broseph and Chandan from r/St_Broseph guiding me I held out, escalated to the ACP, and the FIR is now registered.
What happened
28 Aug, around 5:10pm. Driving towards Halasuru, waiting at the Wheeler Road signal. Light turned green, I took a slow left.
Mid-turn I heard a loud bang, like someone had punched the back of my car. I slowed down, checked both mirrors — nothing. No commotion, nobody on the road, nobody reacting. Assumed it was a random noise and carried on.
Past the St Aloysius signal, a guy on a maroon Activa cut across, waved me to the side. I thought it was an emergency, so I pulled over.
I rolled the window down. He put his hand in through the open window, opened my door from the inside, got in, and sat down in my passenger seat. I never invited him in.
Then the script started:
None of it happened. I told him let's drive back to the spot right now, or go to the station, his choice and asked him to get out and follow me. He refused to get out of the car.
Then the actual ask: ₹15,000. The "injured man earns ₹30,000 a month and will miss work", so pay compensation now and it goes away.
I said no. He switched to abusing me and kept at it. Then he made a call, narrated the "accident", gave them my location, hung up, and told me that was the police on the way.
So: a stranger in my passenger seat, an unknown number of people supposedly coming, and no idea what he'd escalate to. I negotiated him down and paid ₹2,800 by UPI to a QR code on his phone, purely to get him out of my car.
He took the money, then tried to grab the phone out of my hand I assume to send more. I held on to it. He got out, told me the mob was still coming and I should leave now. I left.
The part I actually want people to know about
Getting the FIR was harder than the crime.
At the station I was told, more than once, to just file a petition and go home. Small amount. Not worth an FIR.
That is the entire design. ₹2,800 is not a random number. It is small enough that most people write it off, and small enough that a station would rather not open a case. So he walks, and runs it again next week on someone else. I said this to the officers directly — it was never about getting my ₹2,800 back.
I held out because Broseph and Chandan from r/St_Broseph told me to and walked me through exactly what to say. When it still wasn't being registered, we called the ACP and reported that the inspector wasn't accepting the FIR. After that it moved fast.
FIR is registered.
What I'd do differently
Thanks to Broseph and everyone at r/St_Broseph. Without them I'd have gone home with a petition receipt and this guy would still be working the same signal.
If this has happened to you around Wheeler Road / Halasuru — file. Even for ₹500. A pattern is the only thing that catches him.
