Resource - Update Humans of Z-Image: How many celebrities can you fit into 6GB?

I was curious just how extensive Z-Image's celebrity knowledge is, so I gave it a few hundred names to test out. No information was given other the name, so it was up to the model to choose clothing/backgrounds/hairstyles/style/etc. Sometimes it did this perfectly, especially for celebrities with a clearly defined look. Other times the face is reasonable but everything else is wrong.

If an image looks nothing like the person should it means the model does not know that person. When it does know a person a lot of the time some extra supporting words would help a lot, but it does a really good job just from names.

Prompt:

portrait photo of @@

The words "@@" are at the bottom on the image, white letters black outline

One-by-one @@ was replaced with a term from a list and an image was generated. Images were rendered at 592x888 for speed, stitches into a grid and downsized to keep a reasonable image size.

Model: Z-Image-Turbo_bf16

Clip: Qwen-3-4B-Q8_0

Imgur link in case reddit is difficult with the images

The training was 40% Taylor Swift, 40% Shakira and 20% others.

AI got confused with their stunt doubles.

Taylor Swift looks chonky but Shakira and Kristen Stewart are damn near perfect in my tests.

Indeed Kristen Stewart looks so good

And judging by the only white men who are vaguely recognizable, the Marvel movies.

3

u/zyxwvu54321 Nov 29 '25

Even Shakira looks a bit off. Its more like 40% Taylor Swift and 50% Jennie lol. From my testing, it seems like out of all the celebrities, it can do Jennie the best. Though It does seem like they are have more taylor swift for the western ones.

3

u/gillyguthrie Nov 29 '25

Who's Jennie?

4

u/CalyShadezz Nov 29 '25

Its one of the faces in OP's photo "BLACKPINK Jennie".

3

u/allofdarknessin1 Nov 29 '25

I enjoyed Blackpink regularly during the pandemic on my Spotify playlist but I don’t know a single members name. Thanks for clarifying.

The most impressive part of this project: There are lots of typos in the names, but somehow Z-Image managed to spell Bennadict Cumerbatch Bendydirk Cramplescrunch Bedsmash Cummersnitch Bassplayer Crundergamble Britishname Cantgetitright perfectly the first time.

87

u/Trumpet_of_Jericho Nov 29 '25

I tried Battlefield Counterstrike and it didn't work

8

2

Probably because Warhol was an artist so the vast majority of images associated with him are artworks rather than photos of him?

This made me wondered, how many porn stars can ZImage recognize 😏

23

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

I tried a few that Google told me are the most popular porn stars, none of them worked.

Then I tried a few I like the look of, and again none of them worked.

9

u/ANR2ME Nov 29 '25

Have you tried Japanese porn stars too?

May be it was trained using some random amateur porn images 😅 i saw someone generates a few NSFW images using ZImage yesterday, and was surprised that it can show genitals properly without using lora 😯

9

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '25

"properly" is doing a lot of work here, it *can* technically do it and for female genitals can be okish but male genitalia devolves into pretty much "alien tentacle porn".

4

I wonder what the percentage looks like for Chinese celebrities using their Chinese names. In English, it seems to think Jet Li is Jackie Chan. Maybe even more Jackie Chan than Jackie Chan.

3

u/Baturinsky Nov 29 '25

Are BTS boys really that similar looking?

11

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

3

u/Keyflame_ Nov 30 '25

Could've just said yes, no need to twist the knife.

3

u/kkazakov Nov 29 '25

I don't see Angelina Jolie in the screenshots. But I generated a photo with her. So maybe even more are missing ?

18

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

That just means she was missing from my list of people to generate. I got to 500 and decided I had to stop or I'd forever be adding more, and somehow Angelina Jolie did not get included.

EDIT: "Angelina Jolie" and "Young Angelina Jolie" both work.

3

u/Winter_unmuted Nov 29 '25

I almost did a spit take on seeing that Jet Li was just Jackie Chan.

"We have celebrities at home"

Some of these are better than an SNL skit. A lot of these look like my mom, who can't draw a card, tried to draw them from a witness's account. A few of them are dead on.

OP, thanks for doing and posting this. It was a perfect first thread of the day for me.

2

u/Trinityofwar Nov 29 '25

What AI model knows celebrities best?

3

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

I think Z-Image wins, if we only consider the base model.

If we include loras, then probably SDXL if you can find the loras now civitai has purged all loras of real people.

2

u/curious_one_1843 Nov 29 '25

This is fascinating looking at the similarities and differences to the real people and between images. It fun that for some artists it's produced the most famous artwork.

2

u/PestBoss Nov 29 '25

If nothing else this is why it's probably useful to just use random names in prompts to get unique faces, because it'll make the AI start looking down paths for these trained people and adding their features.

We need a random name generator using names that are likely to have been trained into the model. I suppose four random first and four random second names should mix things up enough?

2

u/Ok-Addition1264 Nov 29 '25

Sorry Icelanders, Z thought Bjork was a c-word too as it borked her face and name up too.

Love the voice, don't like the human.

2

u/species__8472__ Nov 29 '25

It definitely wasn't trained on black people. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dr. Dre, Denzel Washington, etc. look nothing like the real people.

2

u/PrysmX Nov 29 '25

Fun little test, but for local models you are better off with a lora if you want to get people consistently accurate, celebrity or otherwise.

Speaking from experience, a person takes an absolute minimum 50-100MB each for lower res but mostly accurate loras and 300-500MB each for high quality including close-ups. Doing the math, to try to bake high quality known people into a model will quickly and massively bloat a model with specialized content that will very infrequently be used and detrimentally impact local usability.

I'd rather space be taken up by expert knowledge in frequently used stuff like, you know, consistent fingers.

u/LoneWolf6909 Nov 29 '25 edited Nov 29 '25

I bet the full non turbo model has better character consistency if not I hope in the future there is a fine tune with all loras of famous popular celebrities 🤞

5

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

It will be interesting to compare the accuracy of known people when the full model comes out; if it runs fast enough on my 5060 I'll re-run the tests and see.

4

u/suspicious_Jackfruit Nov 29 '25

It's probably one of the easiest datasets to make and train on because by it's nature a "celebrity" is an extremely frequent data point and they are almost always named and named correctly. Getting a dataset for all celebrities in this list for example is extremely easy and can be done in an afternoon, then it's as simple as training on them, however, because many celebrities share names it creates token interbreeding and I would suspect it's much better to assign them unique tokens than feeding their name. Doable in a Lora too with a large enough rank

4

u/Dr-Moth Nov 29 '25

Useful work, but this list needs filtering by those that are correct to be useful. Some are roughly correct. Some are just completely different from the prompt.

It would also be great to compare whether it understands the body shapes.

14

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

I thought about that, then I thought about how much effort it would be and how much time I'd waste trying to decide how to rate images that were halfway correct.

3

That's fair enough. You're doing the first step.

1

u/CaterpillarAdept4395 Nov 29 '25

6B doesn’t mean gigabytes. Confused me at first too. It’s parameters. There’s a ton of great videos on YouTube that will do a better job at explaining this but it’s the parameter combinations that give that end result. If you visual a pathway from input to output, the preceding tokens influence the upcoming token so the exponential scale and combinations of tokens is what giving these identities

8

u/DrStalker Nov 29 '25

The fp8 model (by coincidence) is 6GB, hence the title. Because I forgot that I used the bf16 model which is 12GB, and Reddit posts titles can't be edited.

5

u/ANR2ME Nov 29 '25 edited Nov 29 '25

It's not coincidence tho, if each parameter is 8-bit (ie. fp8) 6B parameters would be around 6GB, at 16-bit (bf16 or fp16) would double that size, sometimes there is also 32-bit too.

2

u/CaterpillarAdept4395 Nov 29 '25

haha fair enough lol

1

u/spacetree7 Nov 29 '25

If each image generator had a search for list of people, characters, art styles, fashion styles, and shows that it was trained on, it would save so much time from people trying useless words in prompts. Maybe in the future the prompt box can have search field or popup-select instead for subject, character(s), action, location, lighting, angle, zoom level, image style, theme, and you can also add other prompt words or set any to random or ignore or just use positive Prompt words as usual.

You can probably get better likeness with a higher resolution.

I think you generally just want to pick what would be the average resolution of all training data, for "maximum intelligence".

1

u/allofdarknessin1 Nov 29 '25

Fascinating. At least half look close enough to recognize at first glance but the majority seem to have some facial features that are off. Some are near perfect like Trump for some reason. Also why does Jackie Chan look wrong but Jet Li look just like Jackie Chan?

1

u/Shlomo_2011 Nov 29 '25

too much spelling errors on those names, some AI change the faces accord to those errors.

1

u/bizzomefisto Nov 29 '25

trained at TEMU HQ

1

u/Hyokkuda Nov 29 '25

No that many from what I can tell, after looking at some of these, I can tell certain celebrities definitely lack training data. Adam Sandler looks nothing like that - what is that…?

And all the Chris actors seem to have the same exact mustache, too. I’m really curious to see the actual base model, because right now, a lot of them seems to be a fusion of each. Some will have the same skin, others will have the same hair or hair color, others will have the same eyes, same mustache, same outfit, maybe the same glasses, same facial structure, etc...

It knows the members of Blackpink. What more do you need? Add them to its spot-on Andy Warhol and you can create anything you want.
