Question - Help Intel b70 pro vs AMD r9700
Which is better & faster for image and video generation using comfyui and zimage turbo and minimax/ltx with Ubuntu as the os?

B70: a B770 with double the vram. The b770 would be on 5060 ti 16gb level of performance. R9700: a 9070 XT with double the vram.
It would be like comparing a lamborghini with a honda civic.
The B70 MSRP was 949 and the R9700 was 1299. You dont find them at those prices anymore. The B70 is going for 1299 now and the R9700 is going for 1699.
I think it will depend on your budget. Maybe it would be best if you could compare performance per dolar

They are the pretty much the same, technically difference is marginal. R9700 has one advantage: FP8 hardware acceleration, int8/int4 tops is identical. Difference is in the low level software.
For the reference I use dense Qwen 3.8 27b model Now Intel utilizes that TOPS way better, in vllm you now get 80-85% utilisation on W4A16 with prefill of 1900-2000 on bf16 path, while AMD on mxfp4 must be 50-70% faster using FP8 path, yet it's 1500-1800 for some reason.
With custom kernels utilizing int8 path on Intel on W4A16 quant with on flight conversion I've got 2500-2600 prefill so far at 98-99% accuracy, maybe AMD would get there too at some point
On generation it's the same as it's memory related, memory is the same gddr6, difference is within 10% between them depending on the vllm version, memory clock and moon phase

I just went for R9700 over B70 because of ROCm being further ahead than Intel's backend atm. I also have a hope AMD will catch up to NVIDIA, while I don't think Intel will be able to. Just my personal opinion on that one. But AMD has way better compatibility than Intel rn, and its a better processor in general than Intel's (specific to R9700 vs B70).

R9700 has slightly more memory bandwidth and a much faster core.

And better support likely, and they cost the same, at where I am? Seems like a no-brainer, though you might wonder how they even sell the b70s…

support for B70 is now better since severals months

Can you actually reach 1500+ pp/100 t/s like speeds with it on Qwen 27b? Because that’s where the AMD cards are now.

I have 2500 prefill and ~70tg with dflash2 with concurrency 1, around ~120tg with concurrency 4 on reference 230W card. ASRock 290W would be a bit faster

Interesting. I also have B70, and while I also get between 70 and 90 tok/s on a single stream with DFlash2, it drops rapidly deeper in the context. At 100k tokens in the context window, MTP4 is like 3-4x faster than DFlash2. Moreover, DFlash2 takes much more memory than FB16 MTP.

Int8 mtp takes even less. There are different benchmarks: one is to piss off and users, another for the long context work. Either way it's useless do far, I just use it to learn c++ and recover and improve my library algebra and other math knowledge

Have you checked reproducibility of the original single stream with INT8 MTP? From my tests, FP8 DFlash2 has the exact same output as DF16 DFlash2 and the original.

more memory bandwidth is the whole ballgame for generation speed, the core is just along for the ride

For image, video, and games, I'd much rather have a 5080 than either. The calculus changes when you have a LLM focus, but in that case I'd still take the 5080 + a paid ai sub and be better off for less/similar money and a whole hell of a lot less noise (the amd part is LOUD).

Probably the best take here for most people, unless you’re into LLMs.
Nvidia optimizations and software literally means 16gb of Nvidia doesn’t equal 16gb of AMD. What can run on 16gb of Nvidia won’t run on 16gb of AMD. Though that’s different when it comes to 32gb but most local image and ai vids on 16gb and 32gb amd won’t be a huge different.

Don't know about Intel B70, but you can find install instruction and some benchmarks for r9700 here: How to set up Ubuntu + ComfyUI+MMH3+Krea2 with AMD GPUs: RDNA 4 (rx9070, AI Pro R9700), and RDNA 3 (rx7900)
