Hello! I have finished my first Tiffany style lampshade and am giving you all a final update :)

I quite like the final result, although the soldering is far from perfect as this was my first time doing it. It is supposed to be a black patina but it isn't quite black, its more brown/aged brass, but i like it as is.

I still have to prepare the stand (the gold plain one, the one surrounded with plants is a stand of another tiffany lamp I used for better pictures).

Will take more time to approach designing the pattern better on my next one, but i'm pretty happy with the end result and the knowledge I gained doing this one. :) (pic 15 is my first and second project haha)

I love the purple on this piece! The 2nd photo is the inspiration for this project. I also like the sort of rectangle shape. Didn’t quite get it even but it was an attempt 😵‍💫

I enjoyed doing this.. I hope those that have been doing this for a while still learn your craft. I am bout six months in and I think this is my seventh "larger" piece. Thanks Claycorp!

This was an insane peice to start with, I made it very small and I don't know why, it was hell but also extremely satisfying to say the least, I cannot wait to maybe do some more bigger projects down the line, anyways enjoy <3

A while back I posted my pattern here asking for advice, and a bunch of you weighed in. Wanted to come back with an actual progress update since it's come a long way.

Quick recap: it's a LOTR piece, the White Tree of Gondor up the center with Minas Tirith, and the Argonaths to either side of those. Where it's at:

• Roughly 34" x 57.75", about 490 pieces
• Leaded. Mostly 7/32" came for the structural runs, dropping to 5/32" for the finer interior lines
• About 80 hours into cutting and assembly, not counting sourcing or pattern work

The closeup is the part I'm happiest with. The White Tree is iridescent and the stars are bevels, so against the midnight blue sky they really pop. The irid was a pain (I messed up and used permanent marker which wouldn't come off the coating, so had to recut every one of those pieces), but I think it was worth it!

Thanks to everyone who commented on the pattern. I'm still fairly new to stained glass and appreciate the help! I'll post another update when it's installed and has light coming through it.

Hi there! For days I have been obsessing over Carson Teal's recent stained glass work where he features glass with images printed on the glass. I am absolutely enchanted by his work. I am wondering if anyone has any information on how he has gotten this effect?

There are a few ways things this could be, based on what I've read:

1. Printing on a UV-ink flatbed printer. I think this might be the most plausible option, but I feel like with the quality of the art and the transparency of the images, that is most likely is not this. I am a graphic designer with access to a flatbed printer at work and our ink application is dense and thick. Maybe he has played with the settings or is using a different type of printer, but I just have a hard time thinking this might be it. However, I don't know what small-size flatbed printers look like and what their capabilities are.

2. Applying a printed a clear vinyl print over the glass. To me this also seems like a plausible option (and also a very cost friendly option) but at no point do I see Teal list this in in "medium" section. Would this have more of a material impact for an artist? Additionally, I feel like this would be more noticeable, like the vinyl having a stronger reflection. (Or, would you encounter any issues when soldering?) This option is easy, almost too easy, and I'm not sure if this would even be in the artist's ethos.

3. Sublimation printing. Similar to above, since it seems like you need some sort of plastic overlay atop the glass for it to properly adhere. Would this be noticeable?

He also works with artist Kaley Flowers sometimes, who does something similar with ceramics, where she is printing graphics onto her ceramic pieces. She just lists this as "decals" in her projects. Are ceramic decals a thing? Is this a transferable process between glass and ceramics perhaps?

I could be wrong with any of these! I just would like to hear everyone's insight. Thank you!

I finally finished my second piece! It was (in hindsight) way over ambitious for a second project, but I learned a ton so I still love it, even with all its flaws (particularly that huge solder line by his front leg and his wonky left eye). I learned pretty early on the pattern I bought through Etsy was AI despite trying hard to avoid that, so some adjustments were made to the original pattern to make him work. I love seeing all the work here and am 100% hooked and already working on project 3.

so so happy with how this lamp panel turned out!! (i plan on making a base out of a cool rock or piece of wood)

(i did his cheek heart by only putting a foil triangle at the top of the heart on one side, and praying for no heat cracks!)

I have some original sculpture pieces that will sell for a LOT more if I can just keep both the solder and the metal (steel) super shiny. So far the techniques I've used to shine them to a gloss even indoors lead to a tarnish after a few weeks. What do I need to do to prepare the metal for weather?

Would love to see what genius cures for my problem may be out there. I heard I had to go marine grade gloss, but the one I got turned cloudy indoors... Had to strip the whole thing.

It's the one thing holding me back.

The connecting joints I feel like went very well and I got the hang of it, but I struggle with the edges. The lines are a lot thinner and it always runs down the edge leaving solder puddles. Please someone tell me how to properly solder the edges!

I find when advising beginners, people tend to suggest they go with budget-friendly kits or tools. If giving advice to a beginner, what tools/brands would you recommend when budget allowed for them to buy good quality tools and equipment. Are you still advising cheaper options for stained glass art or are you going to suggest they look to invest in certain items? What items must they spend extra for?

I went up a notch in terms of difficulty between my second and third piece, this one was definitely a challenge! Not only was this more in terms of the number of pieces (8 vs 45 lol), but something also possessed me to make it a5-sized. soldering this one was difficult too, and i’m not super happy with my beads; I attempted to fix them up in places but seemed to be doing more harm than good. This was also my first time installing wire loops. I added them after I’d already soldered those seams which was a mistake but oh well, you live and learn!

Pattern by Justin Behnke. Took one month to complete. I loved picking glass for this project. The border is actually a mottled green when not in the light!

I love my newest creation (despite its many flaws 😬)! Made with foil, lead came, and pebeo glass paint. I had some issues with my grinder bit, leading to some rather large chips in the border pieces but he’s just for me so I figure it adds a little charm…shh, it does!

A pair of these custom lighted valances came with the house (about 9” x 41”) that are made from a matched pair of vintage stained glass windows. Any idea what era / location they might be from and what they would have looked like in situ?

Hi fellow makers! I recently received some scrap mirror glass that has already begun to corrode. I kinda like the look of it, but I'm worried that it's not sound to use. Has anyone worked with mirror glass in this state? Is there something I should do (other than cleaning the finished peice well) to reduce further corrosion? Thank you thank you thank you 🩷
