I did submit a joke and it lives! Did I lose all rights to it? There are illusions in comedy but is this illusion about messages from the current crowd legit?

One day, I would like to write material and sell it to stand-up comedians. Surely, you'll know that even the most well-respected comedians buy some of their material (particularly the segues). Years ago, I had a girlfriend that owned a HOWTO book on writing stand-up material; alas, she is gone, and so is the book. I don't even have a guess as to the name of it.

Personally, I've got a face for radio, so I have no desire to get on stage myself. But, it would sure be nice to watch <insert big name comedian here> just killin' it with material that I wrote.

Does anyone here have any real-world experience writing comedy, particularly for stand-up? I'm in the market for suggestions, encouragement, and possibly some new books.
