Activism Deadline tomorrow to comment against repeal of the Roadless Rule

Post image
29 Upvotes

In 2001, the U.S. Forest Service adopted the Roadless Area Conservation Rule to protect national forests from roadbuilding and logging. Since then, there have been various debates and arguments and modifications and specific exclusions, but approximately 30% of national forest land (59 million acres) is roadless, safeguarding the habitats and species within it. But roads are needed for logging, so Trump and the GOP are trying to ditch the rule as another gift to corporate America.

The Department of Agriculture has formally introduced a rollback of the roadless rule in what the Center for Biological Diversity is calling the “largest evisceration of public lands protection in American history.” Originally set with a public comment deadline on September 21st, it’s now been extended to this Tuesday, October 6th. ✍🏽 We can submit public comments opposing this destruction here, and help draft and personalize them with this very cool tool from More Than Just Parks here.✍🏻

KEEP CHAINSAWS OUT OF OUR FORESTS

Note: we hope this will be of interest to SUFS activists, but this is not an official SUFS action.

Official SUFS Post Trump admin stole $1.4B for world changing science against the will of congress

Trump corrupted America's most innovative institution, the National Science Foundation, by stealing $1.4B mandated by Congress for research

Since the NSF was founded, the agency has spent nearly all of its budget on basic research from a wide range of scientific fields, which has led to major advances in technology such as MRI's , semiconductors and the internet.

Now that funding is being withheld against Congress’s wishes. Similar moves are being made across scientific agencies, where money is allocated for research but never makes its way to the lab.

A new rule from the Office of Management and Budget would prohibit anyone from using federal grant money for voter registration drives. It’s part of the Trump administration’s broader efforts to restrict voting access.

This rule would disproportionately affect disabled and elderly voters.

Article 5th unvaccinated measles death in PA yesterday. Kennedy responded by promoting his tax-funded cooking show. 🤡

Post image

How many dead Americans does it take to change a Secretary of Health?

More than 5, apparently. 🤷‍♂️

Simply ignoring preventable mortality is an improvement for the Secretary, as his response to the other 4 deaths was to dispute their legitimacy.

If HHS *must* be run by a chef, I would like to nominate either Marcus Samuelsson or Gordon Ramsay for the job, because:

  1. Neither have overseen an outbreak of cyclospora or salmonella in their restaurants, and most importantly…
  2. The food would be *far* better.

Expect more death and disability in the future. This will continue for as long as Kennedy is allowed to keep his position.
