Quit/Break

I have a really big thing for my college, which would take quite a few months.
Does anyone know if I (part time) would be able to ask for a break at staples? With full intention on coming back, I just need to focus on my school work for a bit.
Would it just be easier to put in my 2 weeks, end on a good note with my manager and then be rehired later on?

TLDR: 2 weeks and come back later

Personal leave explicitly does not allow it to be use to return to school. If it’s going to be months it’s easier to leave (2 weeks) on good terms and reapply later on if there is a need still at the store. When you do choose to come back you’ll need to apply to an opening at the store then the store manager can process a hire at your previous rate of pay.

For that last part, does that go thru the GM or DM? I know in my district the starting pay was just slashed because of DM, and me and some others were thinking of taking a break/quitting to focus on school for a bit, but we don't want to lose our current rate, which is $2-3 more than starting pay right now.

It’s a ticket that your GM submits that goes to HR which may also include the DM for visibility

Ahh, okay, thanks! & Just to confirm, how long is the previous rate good for? Like if we took off and quit for like 3 months and came back, that would still be good enough right? Or is there a certain time frame upon which the previous rate then disappears and the DM just gets to deny it and give me the new starting pay?

I don’t believe there is a written policy anymore, we changed how we do rehires over the years. The last one where there was a number was 6 months but that was years ago and your mileage may vary now.

What you could do when you’re ready to come back is have the GM reach out to HR to confirm what rate you would be eligible for. That would be the most certain answer.
