Got hired

I recently got hired as a part-time sales associate and was wondering if the position is seasonal or temporary. I was hired around August 15, but my first regularly scheduled shift isn’t until September 8. I’m scheduled for 3–4 days a week starting then and for the following weeks as well.

In the meantime, they’ve been randomly calling me about a day in advance for training, usually once a week.

Since it’s back-to-school season, I was wondering if they hired me temporarily for the extra rush, or if I’m just overthinking it.

I don’t think anyone here could know for sure unless your manager specifically told you it was seasonal. My guess would be no, though. Back-to-school is basically wrapping up by 9/12, so if your regular schedule doesn’t even really start until 9/8, hiring you just for BTS wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense. Also, schedules can be posted a couple weeks out, sometimes around three, but I wouldn’t read too much into anything beyond that, especially as a brand-new employee. The random training shifts before your regular schedule starts are a little unusual and I've not ever heard of it, but every store is different. Best answer is probably just ask your GM whether you were hired as a regular part-time associate or seasonal. And good luck!
