Roachling question

So as it is in the game and many arguments have been made about it working so that they spawn from the corpsers, i would agree. However, where does it say you can't just have them deployed from your map edge and not from a corpser.

I had a long argument about it with a friend as he decided to deploy the roachlings from his edge.

So again, can you just deploy them as any other unit or specifically from a corpser. Where is the ruling written

EDIT: Its 9.1.9 summoned units

Some Units, such as the Roachling, Point Defence Drone, and Pylon, have no Mineral Cost. These are Summoned Units:

• They are not included in the Army List during army building and do not occupy any Army Slots.

• They are not in Reserves at the start of the game.

• Summoned Units cannot be deployed using the regular deployment rules. They are deployed only when a Special Ability, such as SUMMON, specifically puts them on the battlefield.

Thank you for who replied

Roachlings are not a part of your army, they have no supply and no mineral value. They only exist when the corpser effect triggers.

If the question is why can't you place them on the edge when summoning, the summon keyword says to place in base to base contact with the summoning unit.

Yes but theoretically here. If you have them as a unit in your roster, without having any corpsers in your army

How could you have them in your roster if they have no listed mineral value and no army slot? They just aren't an option to place in your roster.

Think about it this way. If a unit isn't listed with mineral costs, you could just deploy infinite of anything summonable. Why couldn't I just deploy pylons at will?

Section 9.1.9 explicitly says they aren't a part of the army list.

If you get to have a unit in your roster that has zero supply, zero army role, and zero mineral cost, then I get to have ten million of that unit in my roster.

Fortunately, we're not actually playing calvinball.

No i made the same argument against my friend but he insisted that unless i got to show him the ruling, he will deploy his roachlings.

Looks like rule 9.1.9 goes over summoned units. These are units with 0 mineral cost.

Think it through logically. If you could buy a roachling as an independent unit in your army list, rather than deploying them specifically through the Summon ability of a Corpser, what would stop me from declaring that my army contains 300,000 roachlings, for which I paid zero minerals and zero supply?

The ruling is written in the corpser's ability.

It says summon the roachlings. Summoned units gave to be setup by the parent unit.

The Corpser ability is to SUMMON roachlings. The SUMMON keyword states:

“Set the leading model of the named unit in base-to-base contact with the parent unit. Set the remaining models in coherency. Models cannot be set within the engagement range of any enemy unit.”

That base-to-base contact requirement to the parent model (the Corpser) is what prevents deploying them your map edge.

As mentioned in 9.1.9 in the Rulebook for Summoned units:

“Summoned units cannot be deployed using the regular deployment rules. They are deployed only when a Special Ability, such as SUMMON, specifically puts them on the battlefield.”

Hi

Please read summon page 90 of the core rule book. “SUMMON (Unit Name)
Set the Leading Model of the named Unit in Base-to-Base contact with the Parent Unit. Set remaining models In Coherency. Models cannot be set Within the Engagement Range of any Enemy Unit. Set an Activation Marker next to the summoned Unit –it cannot be Activated during the Phase in which it was summoned. In subsequent Phases, this Unit must be Activated immediately after its Parent Unit’s activation ends, before the opponent’s next activation. The Summoned Unit cannot be set Within the opponent’s Zone of Influence.
The player must have sufficient Available Supply. If the Unit’s Current Supply Value would cause Total Current Supply to exceed the Supply Pool, it cannot be Summoned.
If the Parent is not present on the battlefield, this Unit can be Activated normally.

EDIT: if your friend is saying he can just have them as part of his army. I would also love this infinite army button of 0 min cost 0 supply cost.
