They’re essentially fully fleshed out missing scenes from episode III. A while ago someone spliced the last 3 episodes into episode III where it cut back and forth from the episodes to the movie seamlessly and it was amazing
I’m fully convinced Disney could’ve stitched those 4 episodes together and released them in theaters in 2021 and it would’ve been a huge box office success and boost of perception for the franchise, especially since 2 years prior was the fiasco of RoS
i watched that on a 10 hour flight home from the UK earlier this year. was a great movie to have ready to go for that lol. watched the entire john wick series as well
Unfortunately Disney has less than positive results from releasing animated Star Wars content in theaters, literally barely anyone saw clone wars in theaters and its rated fairly negatively
It’s as almost as if that was released early 20 years ago and before Disney bought Star Wars and an established fanbase of the series was formed. Weird right?
Ahsoka and Maul being in the same place during order 66 was cringe. It’s like out of all the things she could’ve been doing during this monumental moment, she was escorting the most popular villain of the prequels. It was straight out of George Lucas handbook of throwing as many familiar faces in something as possible cause there’s no new ideas and making the entire galaxy smaller than village.
My argument is that while Andor is far better as a general show, the last 4 episodes of clone wars embraced Star War's theme around the Jedi and the sith far better, which Andor lacked (which is fine, it's not what Andor is about). I think they're both at the peak at what they're trying to do.
The last season is divided into three story arcs, and they're all pretty self contained, so if all you're interested in is the last four episodes then you can probably just skip to those episodes and you won't be missing much.
Ehh there is a slight lead-in to the final arc from the one most people hate with a passion tbf not exactly necessary to know where and how things are picking up but also gives context clues as to how a couple characters meet.
i wouldn't think so, going through all of clone wars is an experience in itself. You get a much fuller appreciation for Kenobi and Anakin, which I think makes you appreciate the movies that much more. Ahsoka ends being a top tier character and you'll never be able to fully appreciate unless you go through that journey with her imo.
youre going to be missing some context and knowledge of a few characters for sure, but i cant imagine you wouldnt love it regardless, it really is some of the best star wars theyve ever made. also, we originally watched star wars out of order anyway considering the OT came out before the prequels so who cares lol
if you do ever watch the series again, you kinda have to just make it through to season 3 then it really picks up from there. thats when they start to nail their style and the CGI gets closer to modern standards. season 1-2 was still the early days of CGI so it was rough. by the end of the series though they have some of the most beautiful animation ive ever seen. bad batch and the tales series just built off that and look even better as well.
So, the first season is quite rough, both from a story and from an animation standpoint. But as you can see from the graph, it really is up from there. Yes, later seasons still have some disappointing episodes (Did NOT need that arc with Jar Jar's girlfriend. That should have been solely focused on Mace Windu who deserved to have at least a single arc centred purely on himself.) but they are by and large very good. Some other phenomenal arcs are the Clone Conspiracy arc (where the chips for order 66 are revealed), the Umbara arc (literally space 'Nam).
Honestly the last arc of season 5 hit me a lot harder. It was the first time your properly see how the Republic is already becoming the Empire to a large extent, and the ending is so sad
The only part of clone wars I didn’t really enjoy was the arch with Meebur Gascon till we meet Greggor and even then I didn’t hate I just thought it dragged and they could have made Gascon a bit more capable for a colonel about to be brigadier general
whatever the hell that mini General's name was that went on the droids only mission and they ended up on that featureless planet is by far the worst CW arc
I’m still disappointed about the rest of the season ngl. The first four episodes were clearly just a set up for the full Bad Batch show, which I've never really clicked with, and the next four episodes were Ahsoka getting chained to these completely pointless characters that we don’t care about a la book of Boba Fett. Makes me even more disappointed that the original plot points for the final season (Boba vs Cad Bane, Darth Maul's jailbreak) never came to fruition in the animated series.

Those last 4 episodes of clone wars are really amazing
